UNICEF, short for United Nations Children’s Fund, is a global charity organization. It was set up in 1946 to help children in countries affected by World War II. Now, UNICEF works in over 190 countries and regions.
UNICEF’s main work includes providing clean water, food and education for poor children. It also helps protect children from violence and diseases. For example, UNICEF sends doctors to give vaccines to children in African villages, and builds schools for kids in remote mountain areas.
In many countries, UNICEF also trains teachers and helps families learn how to keep their children healthy. Volunteers play an important role in UNICEF’s work. They help raise money, collect donations and spread information about children’s rights.
