Our Earth, Our Home
The earth is our home. It was clean and beautiful in the past. However, it's getting warmer now.
The number of wild animals gets much smaller. Natural disasters happen more often than before.
Why does this happen First, there are more and more people on the earth. Second, people cut
down forests and kill too many wild animals.
What can we do I think everyone can do something to help save the earth. We should stop
people killing wild animals. We can also plant more trees and build more reserves.
I hope our earth will become a better place for us to live.2025—2026 学年度第二学期期中学情调查

Dear Dr Know,
I’m so worried these days because I get pimples (青春痘). It causes many problems. I feel upset when I enter
the classroom because all my classmates look at me in surprise. Some students even laugh at me. I don’t want to
communicate with anyone. I have to be the first one to get into the classroom and the last one to leave. And I
become stressed out and can’t fall asleep at night. What should I do Please write to me. I’m looking forward to
hearing from you as soon as possible.
Sad and Fourteen
Dear Sad and Fourteen,
I’m so sorry to hear that you are worried about pimples. I’m also sorry that I can’t stand beside you to share
your stress. At first, you should know that getting pimples is quite normal in your age. Congratulations! It means
that you have grown up. Second, you don’t need to care too much. You can tell your classmates your problem
directly and I think they will understand you. Third, if you pay more attention to other things, like studying or
outdoor activities, maybe you will find more fun. What’s more, you can ask the doctor for some medicine. I really
hope things will work out and everything will be better for you soon.
Yours sincerely,
Dr Know

How did you spend your last holiday Did you just watch videos on your phone all day If so, you’re not
alone. Many people spend too much time online.
Think about it—— what do we usually do online For most of us, it’s just watching short videos. These
videos may seem fun, but they don’t really help us unwind. In fact, they just make us lazy in thinking. The Oxford
Word of the Year, “brain rot (腐化)”, best sums up (概括) this problem.
But how did we get here And what can we do now
Scrolling (滚动) through these kinds of short videos is like eating snacks. (零食). Once we start, it’s hard to
stop. It’s an easy way to kill time. Instead of going outside or trying a new hobby, many of us just stay on the sofa,
staring (盯着看) at our phones.
However, this “easy fun” comes at a price. The more time we spend online, the less real-life joy we experience.
While we are having a “good” time on some popular’ apps, we miss the wonders of the real world. Over time, we
feel like our lives are getting more and more boring.
It’s time to bring back “real fun”. Go outside with your friends or family and enjoy the beauty of nature.
Breathe (呼吸) in the fresh air. Walk in the warm sunlight. Listen to birds singing to brighten your day. Just don’t
let your screens control your free time and don’t leave your brain “rotting”!
( ) 5. How does the writer begin the text
A. By telling a story. B. By asking questions.
C. By giving an example. D. By listing some numbers.
( ) 6. What does the underlined word “unwind” in Paragraph 2, probably mean
A. Work. B. Practise. C. Relax. D. Understand.
( ) 7. Which of the following is an example of “brain rot”
A. Going outside. B. Trying a new hobby.
C. Eating snacks. D. Watching short videos.
( ) 8. What is the main idea of the text
A. The text advises us to avoid “brain rot”.
B. It tells us to bring back “easy fun”.
C. The text leads us to breathe in the fresh air.
D. It encourages us to enjoy our holiday.

① A lot of people take up dancing as a hobby after work. In fact, dancing has been considered one of the best
exercises to fight bad feelings in recent years.
② Dancing, which involves (包含) moving the body to different kinds of music, helps our bodies produce
much endorphin (内啡肽), a chemical that makes us feel relaxed and happy.
③ While simply listening to music or doing sports can cheer us up, mixing them together gives better results.
In a study, a group of scientists tested some patients under three conditions:a group dancing to music, a group just
listening to music, and a group riding bikes without music. The results showed that the first group were the least
depressed (沮丧的).
④ Dancing can bring people together too. Tango, Latin or other social dancing require us to move with others,
which can improve our sense of social connection, according to IBSA, a Swiss scientific foundation.
⑤ Dancing also helps people let go of bad feelings. Studies have found that depression often has to do with
sadness about the past or worries about the future. However, dancing helps you focus on the present, connect with
your body, and free your mind for a while, as reported by a mental health news website.
⑥ Lauren Helper, a social worker in Virginia, US, pointed out that if people enjoy music of any kind, dancing
can be a helpful way to reduce stress. She also said that dancing can take any form, whether it’s moving around the
house to a song or going out dancing with friends. “The important part of movement is that it is fun,” she added.

Feeling joy is good for you and not just because you feel happy in the moment. You can save it up and use it
again.
Feeling happy helps you to deal with difficulties and solve problems. Suzy Reading, a scientist in thoughts and
feelings, says, “Experiencing joy is good for your health. It calms the pain and worry, and helps with sleep.” Being
happy is not only good for you, but also good for the people you care about. Just like a fun game, your happiness
can jump from you to your friends and family.
Here’s where a joy journal (日志) comes in. A joy journal is a special place for you to write about all the
happy experiences. Taking time to make a note helps you pay attention to those things and draw even more
happiness from them. Suzy says, “The joy journal can help us remember happier times when we’re sad, lonely or
worried.”
Making a joy journal is fun and easy. Just pick a notebook and decorate it! You can write in it every day, or
