Where to Eat in Rome Like a Local
In Rome, travelers often eat at popular restaurants that offer English menus. But if you want to experience the real taste of the city, follow the locals and find great food in quieter corners.
Santo Palato
Since opening in 2017, Santo Palato has been known for both classic Roman dishes and creative new ones. In March, it moved from a small place in San Giovanni to a bigger one in Porta Metronia, with a modern design that includes bright-orange walls and a glass-walled kitchen. Despite its new look, the easy, old-school feel is still there, with wooden chairs and comfortable tables.
Retrobotega
With its open kitchen, it’s one of the most exciting dining places in the city. The menu includes both classic dishes and creative ones. With over 90 wines (葡萄酒)available by the glass, it’s a great place for wine lovers. For a more relaxed experience, head to retrovino, the restaurant’s wine bar.
Enoteca L’ Antidoto
Hidden in a quiet street in Tastevere, this small wine bar offers just 16 seats. Inside, guests enjoy a relaxed atmosphere (氛围) with soft music. The young chef, Mirko Pelosi, creates a menu of small, creative plates inspired by Italian and other dishes. The wine list focuses on natural wines. And don’t miss the smoked fish, which pairs perfectly with the wines.
Fischio
Next to an old funfair, Fischio is a laid-back bar which serves some of the best coffee in Rome. It’s a favorite place for locals, offering a mix of a café and a neighborhood hangout. Spend the afternoon over a cup of coffee. It’s a great place to unwind and enjoy the Roman life.

A few weeks ago, I sat with a California farmer named Dave Ribeiro. I asked him what he wished more people knew about farmers. He smiled and said, “That we walk among you. We look like you and talk like you. We have advanced degrees and hobbies, just like you.”
Take Dave: He’s a young man with a music degree. And if you walked past him on the street, you’d never think, “There goes a farmer.”
Is someone like Dave who you picture when you think of a farmer Probably not. I think that most people would picture a man in his overalls. I can tell you, that does not represent Dave or any of the many other farmers I have gotten to know.
Not only do we have to throw out our stereotypes of farmers, but farming as a whole doesn’t look much like it used to either. We recently sent a team out to see what modern farming looks like, and they found farmers to be completely different from our usual ideas about them and also came across them in some unexpected places.
In a parking lot in a neighborhood of Brooklyn, they met a new crop of young farmers who are trying to bring fresh greens closer to eaters in the city by growing them in high-tech indoor vertical farms. In a Florida field under the flight path of an airport, they discovered farmers with university degrees growing algae (藻类) that might someday fuel our cars. And in a modern farm in California, they observed how farmers are using technology to take the best possible care of their animals.
These farmers all spend their days in very different ways — none of them looks like the stereotypical farmer we have in our mind — but they’re all working on new ways to feed our planet. Not only do we need to change our idea of what farming looks like, but we also need to change our view of where solutions can come from. Feeding all of us is going to take all of us working together.
24.How does Dave describe today’s farmers
A.They often walk on the street. B.They are leading a very busy life.
C.They are similar to ordinary people. D.They have little time to make friends.
25.How does the author think most people see farmers
A.They usually wear overalls. B.They have interesting hobbies.
C.They are skilled at growing crops. D.They know modern farming practices.
26.What was the purpose of the team
A.To deepen connections among farmers.
B.To study different technologies in farming.
C.To report on the new developments of farming.
D.To encourage farmers to use new farming methods.
27.What do the farmers mentioned in Paragraph 5 have in common
A.They all work in the city. B.They all use high technology.
C.They all do hard physical work. D.They all work with universities.
As new technologies, including AI, are becoming popular, they promise to change learning for the better.
Already, there are AI-based tutoring (辅导) tools that can help learners. One 2024 study, led by the University of Oxford, found that school students in Ghana who used an AI-powered maths tutor through WhatsApp for half an hour, twice a week, over eight months had “higher” maths progress scores than those in a control group.
“Until now, professional, personalised tutoring has been too expensive for people,” points out Joseph South, chief innovation officer at the International Society for Technology in Education. “AI-powered tutors can offer this experience for online learners at a low price.”
However, there are still possible problems to solve. AI can present untrue things as fact, which could mean students might “learn” incorrect information. Similarly, AI can develop biases (偏见) based on the data (数据) used to train it, and possibly pass them on to learners. In addition, experts warn that any educational institution (机构) needs to have strict rules on what student personal information can be put into AI tools, to reduce privacy risks.
But, to some, the biggest risk is to the learning process. “As students increasingly depend on AI tools, they may use them as quick answers, which will hurt their ability to learn basic learning skills,” says Emily Deleu, assistant teaching professor of business management communication at Carnegie Mellon University. “Is that good for them in the long term ” she asks. “This is still an open question.”
To protect students, she suggests “we need government rules to give advice to schools.” And she adds, “The biggest risk of all with AI is doing nothing. The world has changed and is changing. We should change how we teach and what we teach to welcome AI.”
28.What does the 2024 study show about AI-powered tutoring tools
A.They can help develop students’ interest in maths.
B.They can increase competition among students.
C.They can help students improve their grades.
D.They can shorten students’ study time.
29.What does Joseph South think of AI-powered tutoring tools
A.They will reduce the need for teachers in online learning.
B.They can make personalised tutoring affordable for most people.
C.They will pass some biases on to learners.
D.They may present fiction as fact.
30.What do experts want educational institutions to do
A.Bring in more professional teachers.
B.Develop more AI-powered tutoring tools.
C.Help students develop their own opinions.
D.Try to protect students’ private information.
31.Which of the following can be the best title for the text
A.Will AI Change Education for the Better
B.Can AI Help Students Learn Important Skills
C.Are AI Tools Expensive for Learners
D.What Can AI Tools Help Teachers Do
Why is Seeing a Doctor So Different Around the World
Have you ever wondered how much it costs to see a doctor in different countries The cost of medical care is a hot topic globally, and there is a huge difference between countries like China and the United States. Understanding these differences can help us think more deeply about healthcare systems.
In China, many people worry about the cost of getting sick, but the government has been working hard to make it more affordable. For example, the government negotiates with medicine companies to lower the prices of drugs. This means important medicines that patients need are not too expensive. Also, a strong medical insurance system helps ordinary people pay for their hospital bills. Because of this, a common surgery or a visit to a top hospital in China is often quite reasonable in price and can be scheduled very quickly.
On the other hand, seeing a doctor in the United States can be a financial nightmare. In the U.S., medical costs are extremely high. A simple visit to the emergency room or a routine surgery can cost tens of thousands of dollars . Many people depend on health insurance, but the insurance itself is also becoming too expensive for many families to afford . Studies show that unaffordable medical bills have even become one of the leading causes of personal bankruptcy in the country.
Why is there such a big difference The reasons are complex. However, one thing is clear that more and more people from Western countries are now choosing to travel to China for medical help. They can enjoy common medical services such as health checkups at much lower costs than in China, without having to wait for months. This trend shows that when healthcare is both affordable and efficient, it not only helps local people but also attracts patients from around the world.

C.People in the U.S. don’t like to visit emergency rooms. D.There are many reasons for personal bankruptcy.
34.According to the passage, why are some Westerners traveling to China for medical care
A.Because the hospitals in China are more modern.
B.Because they want to learn Chinese medicine.
C.Because the cost is lower and the service is efficient.
D.Because they cannot find doctors in their own countries.
35.What is the author’s main purpose in writing this passage
A.To suggest that people should travel to China for surgery.
B.To explain that the U.S. medical system is the worst.
C.To show the differences in medical costs between China and the U.S. and lead to thinking about healthcare.
D.To prove that Chinese doctors are better than American doctors.
Does the thought of public speaking make you nervous Would you rather get caught in a storm than give a speech 36 There are two main elements that make up a good oral (口头的) report — the writing and the presentation. Follow the guidelines below, and there will be clear skies ahead.
Writing Your Material
Try to keep your sentences short and simple. To be most effective, hit your key points in the introduction, explain them in the body, and then repeat them once again in your conclusion. “Introduction” is your chance to engage your audience and really capture their interest in the subject you are presenting. 37 “Body” is the longest part of your report. Here you explain the facts and ideas you want to convey. Give information that supports your main idea, and expand on it with specific examples or details. “Conclusion” is the time to summarize the information and emphasize your most important points to the audience one last time.
Preparing Your Delivery
38 Confidence, enthusiasm, and energy are key to delivering an effective oral report, and they can best be achieved through tryouts. Ask family and friends to be your practice audience and give you their opinion when you’re done. The more times you practice, the more you’ll master the material.
Present it with everything you’ve got. Be as creative as you can. Include videos, sound clips, slide presentations, charts, diagrams and photos. Visual aids help stimulate your audience’s senses and keep them interested and engaged. 39
Keep your nerves under control. 40 That’s normal. Preparation is the key. And if you make a mistake or struggle on your words, just regroup and keep going. Nobody’s perfect, and nobody expects you to be.
A.Practice makes perfect.
B.Confidence is significant.
C.They can also help to enhance your key points.
D.Giving an oral report does not have to be a natural disaster.
E.Everyone gets a little nervous when speaking in front of a group.
F.You don’t want to convey too much information to your audience.
G.Use a funny personal experience or start with an interesting question.

On an early rainy November morning, the sky was still dark. Ed Coleman, a truck driver from Sapp Brothers Petroleum, was driving along his usual route in Papillion, Nebraska. He planned to finish his delivery tasks as usual, never thinking he would become a hero that day.
Suddenly, something unusual caught his eye on the road. Even though the rain blurred (使变模糊) his vision, he seemed to see a small figure standing on the median (隔离带). As a father of his own children, Ed felt a strong urge to check it out. He made a quick U-turn and drove back, only to find a 3-year-old boy standing there alone, looking scared and helpless.
It turned out that earlier, the boy’s grandfather had a sudden illness. The couple rushed him to the hospital in a hurry and accidentally forgot to lock the door properly. The little boy had woken up in the early morning and couldn’t find his parents. He quietly walked out of the house, hoping to look for them. Unfamiliar with the neighbourhood, he wandered along the road and accidentally walked onto the median. He was too frightened to move, so he just stood there in the cold rain.
Ed got out of his truck at once. At the same time, another witness who passed by also stopped to help. They called 911 immediately. To keep the boy warm, Ed carried him into his truck and wrapped him in a blanket given by the other witness. While waiting for the police, Ed played cartoon videos on his phone to calm the little boy down.
Ed said he had slightly diverted (改道) from his usual path that day. He couldn’t explain why he chose that way, but it was this small change that made him meet the boy in time. In an interview, he said he only cared about keeping the boy safe. Thinking of his own children, he couldn’t imagine leaving the boy there alone. His voice even trembled (颤抖) with emotion when he talked about it.

W: Hello everyone. I’d like to tell you about the school trip to Amsterdam. The trip won’t be on July 30th as we first thought, because it’s the busiest time for holidays, so flights and hotels would be harder to book. Instead, it’s now starting on August 20th. You can choose to fly or take the coach. The problem with the coach is even though it’s cheaper, the journey is longer. To make sure coach travelers don’t miss out, they’ll leave on the 19th. The total cost for the hotel and flight is 450 pounds. But if you go by coach, you’ll save 100 pounds. We are staying in a nice hotel. It’s a bit expensive, but everything is included so meals won’t cost extra.
Here’s what we’ll do. On the first day, we’ll visit the Rembrandt house museum. There you can see many paintings. On the second day, you can choose to visit a farm or see a factory. The last day is free time and before we leave there will be a party at the hotel, so don’t forget your party clothes.

66.Dear Mr. Chuck,
I’m writing to extend my sincere apology for submitting an AI-generated essay.
I’ve completely realized that it violated academic integrity and I deeply regret my actions. This shortcut reflects poorly on my commitment to learning, and I take full responsibility. I promise this will never happen again.
From now on, I will complete all assignments independently, focusing on developing genuine writing skills through careful practice and research.
To make amends, I’ll rewrite the essay manually this weekend. Thank you for your understanding.
67.One possible version:
Shortly after, the police arrived. They gently lifted the shivering, tearful boy from Ed’s arms, his little hands still clutching Ed’s jacket. The police asked for detailed information about the rescue, and Ed told them everything he had seen and done. Thanks to the timely call, the police quickly contacted the boy’s parents, who were still anxiously searching for their child. The parents rushed over right away, tears of relief streaming down their faces as they hugged their son tightly. They thanked Ed repeatedly, but he just smiled and said it was what anyone would do.
Ten days later, Ed accepted the invitation to the boy’s home for dinner. The moment he stepped in, the little boy ran up to him and gave him a big hug, holding a handmade thank-you card. Delicious homemade dishes were laid out across the table, giving off inviting aroma. During the meal, the parents shared how they had been haunted by guilt, adding that the boy’s grandpa had recovered well after treatment. They were so grateful for Ed’s kindness. Ed said it was just a small detour that changed everything, and he felt happy to have helped the little boy stay safe.
