【答案】Dear Peter,
I’m sorry to hear that you can’t concentrate in class because your deskmate is always talking to you. This is indeed a frustrating situation, but I believe it can be handled with a thoughtful approach.
I suggest you have a friendly but serious talk with your deskmate after class. If it doesn’t help, you might consider speaking privately with your teacher, asking if a seat change could be arranged. What’s important is to address the issue calmly and respectfully instead of letting it keep bothering you.
I truly hope that the situation will improve soon!
Yours,
Li Hua
【答案】One possible version:
Though Guillermo felt surprised at David’s invitation, he followed David to the shoe store. There, the shopkeeper brought out the orange soccer shoes David dreamed to buy. But David pointed to another pair and said, “A smaller size, please. They’re for my friend.” Guillermo’s face turned red. He tried to speak, but David stopped him. “You always say I’m your hero. Today, let me be one.” The shopkeeper helped Guillermo try on the new shoes. They fit perfectly.
As David went to pay for Guillermo’s shoes, the shopkeeper refused and instead showed him his favourite shoes. “These are for you,” he said. “A true hero deserves a reward.” The two boys were both surprised and filled with gratitude at the shopkeeper’s words. Touched deeply, David realized that his mother would be prouder of this day’s act of kindness than any soccer goal. David had not only gained a new pair of shoes but also the satisfaction of making a real difference.2025-2026学年河北省保定市博野县高一5月创新班摸底测试英语试卷考生注意:

Churchlands SeniorHigh School (CSHS) has become part of the Blue Tree Project, a national movement that encourages people to be open about their struggles and aims to end the shame of mental (心理的) illness.
Last week, excitement filled the air as students at CSHS picked up paintbrushes and turned one of the trees bright blue. Laughter mixed with serious conversations as they worked side by side. When a few drops of paint accidentally landed on shoes or clothes, no one minded — it only made the memory more special.
Jess Hazeldine, 17, explained that painting the tree blue was more than just an activity. To her, it was a promise from students to face the issue (问题) of mental health. “It shows we, as students, are doing something about it,” she said. “It means a lot because we are taking an active role in fighting mental health problems among young people.” She added that painting the tree blue was also a way of showing that the students understood how serious the issue was, and that they were ready to work together as a school to address it.
Acting junior school principal Lisa Campbell also shared her thoughts. She said the school would now be listed on the Blue Tree Project’s website, alongside many other schools and organizations across the country. “It shows that we are part of a larger community in this cause,” she added.
Parent board member Genevieve McSporran agreed. She believed the blue tree would remain a lasting reminder. “It’s more than just one day of awareness — it will always be there,” she explained. She pointed out that the tree, visible to anyone passing by, helped build a stronger connection with the wider community.
4. What is the aim of the Blue Tree Project
A. To raise awareness of mental health.
B. To encourage students to form a habit.
C. To prepare for a community festival.
D. To recognize the weakness of students.
5. What does the underlined word “it” in paragraph 3 refer to
A. Attending school. B. Painting the tree blue.

6. What is Genevieve’s attitude toward the activity

For many teens (青少年), Saturday mornings are a time to sleep in. After a busy week of waking up early, weekends offer a chance to catch up on rest. A new study finds that sleeping in on weekends — as long as it’s not for more than two additional hours — may help teens feel less anxious (焦虑的).
Sleep is very important for everyone, especially teens, because it helps the brain and body work properly. However, 75% of American teens do not get the recommended (推荐) 8 to 10 hours of sleep each night. School, homework, and other activities require early wake-ups, and teens usually find it difficult to fall asleep before 11 pm.
In the past, research has suggested that sleeping too much on weekends could cause health problems. But no one had looked closely at how weekend sleep affects anxiety.
Sojeong Kim, a researcher from the University of Oregon, decided to study this. She focused on teens aged 12 to 15, as this is when sleep problems often start. The study used data from around 1,900 teens who had filled out questionnaires about their feelings of anxiety.
The results showed that teens who slept in on weekends had lower anxiety, but only if they slept for less than two additional hours. Teens who didn’t sleep in-or lost sleep on the weekend-reported higher anxiety levels. Those who slept in more than two additional hours had the most anxiety of all.
Kim believes that sleeping too much on weekends can cause “social jet lag”, just like the tiredness people feel when they travel across time zones. For now, she wants teens to know there can be benefits to sleeping in on the weekend. “Getting a little more sleep on weekends might help you feel less anxious,” she says. “But sleeping too much may make things worse.”
12. What does the author want to point out in paragraph 2
A. It’s hard for teens to get enough sleep.
B. Too much homework is harmful to kids.
C. Most teens sleep for over eight hours.
D. Adults enjoy sleeping late on workdays.
13. What were the teens in the study asked to do
A. Finish a test paper. B. Answer some questions.
C. Write a diary entry. D. Go to bed early every day.
14. What did the study show about teens sleeping in over two additional hours on weekends
A. They avoided “social jet lag”. B. They felt calm in the classroom.
C. They experienced higher anxiety. D. They reported a look of satisfaction.
15. Which is the most suitable title for the text
A. How Early Wake-ups Affect Teens B. The Best Time for Teens to Sleep
C. How Teens End Struggles at School D. Teens’ Catch-up Sleep on Weekends

David always took a window seat on the school bus. The wind felt cool on his face as he thought about that day’s soccer game. His teammates said he played well. One even said that he would become a famous player one day. That was David’s dream — to play for his country and make his mother proud.
He was deep in thought when Guillermo, David’s friend and fan at school, sat next to him. Guillermo often watched his hero David play soccer. He admired David because David was popular, good at soccer, and had nice shoes. Guillermo felt shy about his own old shoes. They were dirty and had holes. Each time he sat next to David, he tried to hide his shoes under the seat and David didn’t notice it.
Another day on the bus, David happily told Guillermo that he had saved enough money for new shoes and planned to buy them as soon as he got off the bus. At this moment, the bus suddenly hit something on the road. One of Guillermo’s shoes slipped out (滑出) from under the seat. Everyone could see how old and broken it was. Guillermo was so embarrassed (尴尬的) that he covered his face with his hands. David felt sorry for him. They didn’t talk for the rest of the ride.
