A
(2025·厦门高二检测)When the people first came round, they were all sitting around drinking tea nervously and occasionally glancing at the cupboards.I didn't like the atmosphere.I was beginning to wonder why I had asked these people round to go through my stuff and take what they wanted. This is what happens when you open your home to your family and friends, telling them they can help themselves to everything within it.
Last month, I moved abroad to study for two years, taking just a single suitcase with me.I couldn't afford to keep my flat, so when it came to my possessions, I decided to offer them up for a long-term loan. It's not recycling, or even freecycling. I'm calling it “sharecycling”.It was my beloved tent that formed the premise (前提) of it.I made the decision as I thought about the pointlessness of putting stuff into storage for two years.Instead, I imagined someone I loved putting my tent onto their back and setting off into the countryside in the summer sunshine.I was moving to the other side of the world,
but this made it feel as though I would still be with my friends. To get rid of it all, I had an open house, inviting everyone I knew to take my property.
Now I am sitting in a flat on the other side of the world as rain is pouring down outside, forcing the street sellers to shelter under doorways and umbrellas.I feel very far from my home and my stuff. That list made of the things I want back I'm not sure how much I'll need them.I don't miss any of my belongings.Instead, my mind now is filled with thoughts of my family and friends.
My “sharecycling” plan ties me to them.A friend took my tent to a music festival. And my favourite picture ended up on the wall of my best friend's flat back home. It's like I've pressed “pause” on my city life rather than “stop”, making the move easier.

(2025 ·辽宁月考)What do a student in China, an office worker in the UK and an astronaut in space all have in common They all eat instant noodles. And they're not alone—over 100 billion servings of instant noodles are consumed globally each year, making them one of the world's most successful industrial foods. But how did this happen
Put simply, they're cheap to produce and cheap to purchase, which was exactly what their creator intended to achieve. Momofuku Ando, an entrepreneur, spent a year perfecting the recipe just after the Second World War. He wanted to make something similar to conventional noodles. His creation was instantly popular, playing a part in the postwar economic rise. Even in the year 2000—according to a poll by the Fuji Research Institute—instant noodles were voted the most successful invention, ahead of the Shinkansen, laptops and karaoke.
According to the World's Instant Noodles Association, China, Indonesia, Vietnam and India—in that order—all consumed more instant noodles than before in 2021. Instant noodles' popularity abroad is in part due to how easy they are to adapt to local tastes. In Thailand, for example, you can get the green curry flavour, while in Mexico the noodles are garnished (加饰菜于) with lime and salsa. And it seems that consumers have grown to expect innovation. The food company founded by Ando launches over 300 products yearly, according to employee Kasura Suzuki.
Instant noodles have their critics, too. Their rise in popularity has come at the expense of the environment—they're made from palm oil, they may contribute to deforestation, and their packaging is plastic. And while they are a hot, tasty and filling meal, instant noodles don't have much nutritional value, and include high levels of salt and fat. Nevertheless, instant noodles are undoubtedly lifesavers in an emergency or in extreme situations.
More than 60 years after their invention, instant noodles have become the default food for anyone short of money, time, or even a kitchen.
【解题导语】 本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了方便面的起源和全球的普及情况。
5.How does the author bring in the topic in paragraph 1
A.By giving examples.
B.By making an assumption.
C.By asking questions.
D.By reasoning and analyzing something.
解析:推理判断题。根据第一段中的“What do a student in China...They all eat instant noodles.”可推知,第一段通过提出问题的方式来引出本文的主题——方便面。

6.What was the original intention of inventing instant noodles
A.To promote traditional culture.
B.To reduce environmental cost.
C.To earn more profit.
D.To make them low-cost and affordable.
解析:细节理解题。根据第二段中的“Put simply...what their creator intended to achieve.”可知,发明方便面的最初目的是使它们成本低,价格实惠。

7.What does paragraph 3 mainly tell us about instant noodles
A.Their worldwide popularity.
B.Their major contributions.
C.Their consumers' preference.
D.Their innovative feature.
解析:段落大意题。根据第三段中的“China, Indonesia, Vietnam and India...how easy they are to adapt to local tastes”可知,本段主要介绍了方便面在全球范围内的普遍流行。

8.What is the best explanation of the underlined phrase “the default food” in the last paragraph
A.The preferred food.
B.The most delicious food.
C.The cheapest food.
D.The most nutritious food.

解析:词义猜测题。根据第二段中的“they're cheap to produce and cheap to purchase”、第三段中的“Instant noodles' popularity abroad is in part due to how easy they are to adapt to local tastes.”和画线短语下文“for anyone short of money, time, or even a kitchen”可知,方便面因具备这些优势而成为那些缺钱、没有时间甚至没有厨房的人偏爱的食品。由此可推知,A项与the default food意思相近。

One possible version:
Nowadays, face-scanning payment is very popular among customers, but it has both advantages and disadvantages.
As for its advantages, first, the payment can be completed quickly, thus avoiding long-time waiting in line. Second, customers don't have to carry a bank card, which makes payment more convenient. When it comes to its disadvantages, the most worrying thing is that face recognition hasn't reached 100% accuracy, which might lead to payment risks. In addition, customers' personal information may be revealed illegally.
Imperfect as it is, I believe with the improvement of face recognition technology, face-scanning payment will surely become more and more popular.

(2025 ·广州执信中学高二期中)17-year-old Ava Dorsey is the founder of Ava's Pet Palace, a business that sells organic dog and cat treats. “I actually had the idea when I was six with a picture I drew of a palace,” she says. It was a detailed design for dogs and cats and she had serious plans to build it one day.
Unlike most dog treats that you find in stores, dog treats sold by Ava's Pet Palace are 100% organic, and are non-GMO(非转基因). Ava has set a goal for herself with these dog treats, and she wants every treat to be healthy, tasty, and top-quality. Seriously, some of her treats sound delicious enough for people to eat! “All of my bags now have the USDA organic label, and we're very excited to have gotten it because it's something I've wanted for a long time,” she says. “A lot of stores like to see organic products because customers like them, so that was really exciting.”
Ava says the biggest challenge of being a kid in business is when people don't take her seriously, but undoubtedly Ava has proved that her doubters are wrong! When asked how she defines success, Ava says, “When you hit a bump in the road, you shouldn't give up and you keep trying.” She learned that from her mom, who sounds like a smart lady! Ava has learned some more things from her years in business: Hard work eventually pays off and there is nothing wrong with asking for help.
As far as the future of the pet treats industry goes, Ava is optimistic—but she'd also like to be an inspiration for change. “There's not much diversity right now, so that's something I would love to see in the future,” says Ava. “I would also love to see more kids in this industry. There aren't many other teenagers around, and I hope that I can be an inspiration to others who hope to lead the pet industry.”

A lot of businesses are started by people who have hobbies or special talents and want to turn these interests into a business. But switching from a hobby to a real business requires business know-how and investments, which stops many people. However,an increasing number of ambitious business owners have found a way to take a first step. They are taking their dreams and talents on the road—in vans (小货车) and lorries, and even horse trucks.
Beginning on a small scale has its advantages, the most important of which is the relatively modest size of start-up costs. These costs, which consist primarily of the vehicle and any required equipment, usually come to about only £5,000-£10,000.With such tightly controlled costs, mobile businesses often break even in a year or two; in contrast, success comes to brick-and-mortar businesses much more slowly, and they often fail within the first two years. In short, mobile businesses are relatively low-risk.
The first enterprisers to do this have been in the food business. The mobile food vendor (小贩) trend in the US and Europe has spread to other parts of the globe. The success of these street food vans has inspired other enterprisers to consider starting out on wheels.
UK enterprisers could take inspiration from the US where, today, there are vehicles that sell flowers, shoes, clothes and all kinds of specialty food items. There are also mobile businesses that provide services, such as hair styling, pet grooming and repair of high-tech devices.Mobile retail (零售) is not without problems, however.Weather, the increasing price of fuel, and just finding a place to set up are all challenges that mobile enterprisers have to deal with. These business owners, however, feel the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. In the US, the mobile food business alone generates an average annual income of $857 million.
Once convinced that their business has achieved enough success, some successful mobile enterprisers move on to a brick-and-mortar business.Others are satisfied to stay mobile. As stand-alone businesses or as extensions of shops, mobile retail has huge future potential in these economic times.

(2025 ·浙江卓越联盟期中)Unlike most of her peers who left their rural hometowns, 34-year-old Ning Fenfang left her job in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province in 2017 and worked as a village official in her hometown—a mountainous village in Cili County in Zhangjiajie, Hunan Province. Now she farms over 66.7 hectares of land.
Seeing much of the farmland had been deserted, Ning resigned from her post in 2020 and became a full-time farmer, renting the farmland and hiring villagers to work it. She founded a centre to hire housewives in the village to work her farmland during busy hours.
“It's never easy,” said Ning. It is very rare for young people to become farmers in rural areas, as farming is labour-intensive and requires constant work in the mud. What's more, farming is conventionally seen as a job “unsuitable” for both the post-90s generation and women. Her decision to become a farmer confused many of her fellow villagers and farming was much more difficult than she had imagined. She experienced tremendous pain due to the intensive labour. At first, she didn't farm much through lack of
farming knowledge, so she didn't feel pressured to succeed. Later, she decided to expand the scale and spent millions of yuan. “Most of the money is borrowed from banks, families and relatives, so there is no turning back,” she said. Weighing up the pros and cons, her husband ultimately gave up his enterprise to work with her.
She has tried to turn farming into a “trendy” job. Instead of traditional farming methods which rely on human labour, Ning promotes mechanized farming, such as using harvesters, cultivators and drones. She also plans to explore the agricultural tourism resources in Zhangjiajie for children living in urban areas to experience farming.
Being elected to the 14th National People's Congress has motivated Ning to feel more responsible for fellow farmers. “NPC deputies from the grassroots need to consider rural farmers' needs and bring their voices to the two sessions,” Ning said.

When I stepped into my sister's house, I could feel the tension among the family members. My nephew was complaining that current allowances are insufficient to cover his expenses and questioning why he cannot be trusted.Financial literacy (素养) is a totally new word to his parents and,in their mind, parents are supposed to be extremely tight on kids' money.
As raised in a traditional way,we are constantly told to spend a fixed amount of money in a particular period, with everything arranged. The lack of financial literacy among teens is mainly due to the fear of losing control, which has overshadowed the importance of introducing genuine ideas that can promote independence and responsibility tied to financial autonomy (自主).This mindset implies that if you just follow the parents' plan, seemingly you succeed in managing your money. Still, each year heartbreaking news about college students who are involved in unaffordable debt keeps popping up.
Having financial literacy, however, has more benefits than expected. At best, teens with self-discipline would appreciate the trust and make informed financial decisions. Even at worst, the cost of making mistakes in teenage years is relatively low and committing the mistakes honestly may open the door to some constructive feedback and financial tips.
True financial literacy isn't simply about implementing a strict or loose strategy on spending but teaching teenagers to differentiate between necessity and desire, and making compromises. But managed properly, both bread and brand shoes can be obtained. With brand shoes ahead, the difficulty in making and saving money makes us appreciate the value of efforts. Budgeting and planning for your expenses helps you make decisions of consequence and resist temptations.
Once teens demonstrate responsible management of cash-based expenses,it is time to consider upgrading. However, teens may not be fully equipped to travel in the complex financial landscape without adequate supervision and support. After all, financial autonomy comes with responsibilities.
