Ⅰ.阅读理解
A
(2025·德州高二统考)Plastic mobile phone cases and sweet wrappers, some more than 50 years old, have recently been pulled from the sea off the coast of East Yorkshire. The finds lead to growing concern among scientists about the long-term impact of plastic waste on our seas, with research suggesting it takes over 400 years for a drink bottle to break down in the sea.
A London-based startup company is currently designing a seaweed (海草)-based replacement for single-use plastic packaging (包装). The company has been sparing no effort to further develop its product line.
The firm initially looked to seaweed as the solution to the world's white pollution, because it is plentiful, grows quickly, doesn't compete with land crops and doesn't use chemicals, but absorbs carbon from the air. Design director Karlijn Sibbel says, “It can grow into the sea, where it actually has many positive benefits so it can create new ecosystems for other organisms to grow in.”
Sibbel says they look to nature as inspiration “for the ideal packaging” like the skin on a fruit.“A peel (果皮) will eventually be used as nutrients by nature, disappear and become part of the cycle,” she adds.
“The exciting thing is that this is a film that can replace most of the flexible packaging you see around,” Sibbel says. The potential contents could include coffee grounds or toilet paper. For food items, such as noodles, they have even experimented with adding flavors to the packaging, so that dissolving the bag could add seasoning to the food.“You can cook with it. And you can really start to rethink what we can do with these materials,” she explains.
The approach feels especially relevant as the world is coming to terms with the effects of decades of uncontrolled plastic production. Co-CEO Paslier says, “We're excited to see our power in the food service industry and looking forward to moving into the fashion markets very soon.”

Scientists at University College London have discovered sets of regulatory genes, which are responsible for maintaining healthy hearing. The finding, made in fruit flies, could lead to treatments for age-related hearing loss (ARHL) in humans.
Globally, one-third of people aged over 65 experience hearing loss, and while there are thought to be more than 150 genes that may affect hearing loss, there is no unified (统一的) view on how to use these to develop hearing loss treatments.
In the study, published in Scientific Reports, researchers at the UCL Ear Institute assessed the hearing ability of the common fruit fly across its lifespan (around 70 days) to see if its hearing declines with age.
A fruit fly's ears share many molecular (分子的) similarities with the ears of humans, making it a superb tool for the study of human hearing loss.
Researchers found that the antennal ears of fruit flies also display ARHL with nearly all sensitive hearing measures starting to decline after 50 days of age. This made the researchers want to know if there were any “age-variable” genes in the flies' inner ears which have kept the ears healthy for 50 days of their lives.
After closer examination, researchers identified a new set of regulatory genes—homeostasis genes. These genes are often responsible for picking up sound and the overall sensitivity of the ear. Using this information, scientists were then able to genetically modify (修改) the genes and prevent the flies from getting ARHL.
Professor Joerg Albert, lead author of the study, said, “While many studies have been conducted into the hearing function of fruit flies, ours is the first to look at the mechanistic and molecular detail of their auditory (听觉的) life course. The fact that these genes are conserved in humans will also help to focus future clinical research on humans and thereby accelerate the discovery of new gene-therapeutic strategies.”

A
(2025·湖州期末)The Amazon rainforest spreads across nine South American countries but most of it (60%) is in Brazil. Brazilian scientists think they might have found a way to reverse the damage caused by deforestation and turn farmland back into forest. The secret lies in ancient local knowledge of soil.
Amazonian Dark Earth(ADE) is a thick, black soil found deep in the Amazon rainforest, and it could help restore forests around the world. ADE is a kind of compost (混合肥料)—a soil made from dead plants and animals. Various kinds of composts are sold in gardening centers around the world, but ADE is unique. It was created by indigenous (本土的) people from the Amazon between 2,000 and 2,500 years ago. The Amazonian people, today known as Amerindians, created ADE using charcoal from fires, animal bones, food waste and feces. It contains microbes, including bacteria that help to turn chemicals in the soil into useful nutrients that feed plants and trees.
Vast areas of the Amazon have been cut down, mostly to make way for grassland for raising cattle. Scientists are looking for a way to turn grassland back into rainforest and revive forest ecosystems. These support thousands of animal and plant species, many of them unique to the area. Forests also absorb lots of carbon dioxide, a gas that causes climate change.
To see if Amazon's special soil could help, the scientists grew grasses and trees in ADE, regular earth and a mixture of both. Trees grown in ADE were up to six times taller than those in regular soil. ADE takes hundreds of years to create, so the scientists can't simply make more. Team member Dr. Siu Mui Tsai said that instead they wanted to try and “copy its characteristics”, especially its helpful microbes, and see if it could help to restore natural habitats.

(2025·广州高二上期末)One old-school gardening belief is that it is inadvisable—even risky—to have plants in the bedroom. This centers around the claim that while plants take in carbon dioxide and release oxygen in the day,at night this is reversed (相反), so they compete with us for the very air we breathe while we are asleep.
Indoor air quality is indeed affected by CO2 build-up, which has proven health implications, providing a clear basis for concern. However, assessing whether sharing our bedroom with plants truly jeopardizes our health involves three key considerations.
Firstly, how much CO2 do plants release at night compared with what they absorb in the day? This proves complex due to varying factors like species, light exposure, and room temperature and the research on the precise measurements is pretty thin on the ground. Thankfully, a study found that sizeable houseplants enclosed in glass boxes manage to absorb six to eight times as much CO2 in the day as they give off at night, creating a pretty significant net reduction over a 24-hour period.
Secondly, it's essential to compare the nighttime impact of plants on air quality with that of other potential competitors, such as your roommates.A single human breath contains roughly 40,000 ppm of CO2, over 10 times the effect a plant could have in 8 hours. Consequently, it might be wiser to kick out your roommates before your plants.
Finally, and this may seem apparent, our living spaces differ from the controlled environments in research studies. Indoor air is constantly being exchanged naturally through openings like doors and windows, and human movement.A recent review suggests that reproducing the air-refreshing impact of an open window would require between 100 and 1,000 plants per square meter of floor space, considering plants' pollution-removing abilities.
So enjoy houseplants whenever you like, because, frankly, if sleeping near plants were bad for your health, camping in a forest would be positively deadly.
【解题导语】 本文是一篇说明文。作者从三个方面说明了在卧室养植物是安全的。

6.How does the author illustrate the nighttime impact of bedroom plants
A.By citing examples.
B.By giving definitions.
C.By quoting researches.
D.By making comparisons.
解析:推理判断题。根据第四段中的“it's essential to compare the...a plant could have in 8 hours”可知,作者通过作比较来说明夜间植物对空气质量的影响。

7.What does the author think of having plants in the bedroom
A.It is a health risk that requires immediate action.
B.It is a dangerous practice that should be avoided.
C.It is not as concerning as believed and can be enjoyed.

(2025·黑龙江大庆中学月考)Inspired by how ants move through narrow spaces, scientists have built a robot that can pass through narrow passages, climb over steps, move on grass and loose rock.
“Insects are really a decent inspiration for designing robot systems that can perform various movement behaviors,” says Nick Gravish, a roboticist at the University of California, San Diego. Ants adapt their gesture to crawl through tiny spaces so they won't be disturbed by uneven earth or small obstacles. For example, their legs collapse a bit when they hit an object, and they continue to move forward quickly.
Gravish's team's robot is about 30 centimeters wide and 20 centimeters long with four wavy limbs (肢). Each limb is made up of six nested tubes that can draw into each other. What's more, the limbs don't need to be actively powered or adjusted to convert their overall length. Instead, springs play a crucial role because they allow the legs to become short when the robot passes through a narrow space and stretch back out in an open space.
The robot can modify the width and height of its body to attain a larger range of body sizes than other similar robots. The leg parts contract themselves to let the robot crawl through small tunnels and stretch out when the robot is under low ceilings. This adaptability lets the robot get into spaces as small as 72 percent of its full width and 68 percent of its full height. Next, the researchers plan to actively control the firmness of the springs that connect the leg parts to tune the motion to earth types without consuming too much power.
The researchers think that such small-scale, minimal robots are easy to produce and can be quickly adjusted to explore complex environments. However, the researchers think that these robots are, for now, too breakable for search-and-rescue, exploration or biological monitoring. The new robot takes a step closer to those goals, but getting there will take more time.

(2025·广东梅州部分学校期中)With a brain the size of a pinhead, insects perform superb navigational (导航的) abilities. They avoid obstacles and move through small openings. How do they do this, with their limited brain power Understanding the inner workings of an insect's brain can help us with our search for energy-efficient computing, physicist Elisabetta Chicca of the University of Groningen demonstrates with her most recent result: a robot that acts like an insect.
In search of the neural (神经的) mechanism that drives insect behaviour, PhD student Thorben Schoepe developed a model of its neuronal activity and a small robot that employs this model to navigate. Schoepe's model is based on one main principle: always steer towards the area with the least apparent motion.
He had his robot drive through a long “corridor”—consisting of two walls with a random print on them—and the robot centred itself in the corridor, as insects tend to do. In other virtual environments, such as a space with obstacles or small openings, Schoepe's model also showed similar behaviour to insects.
“The model is so good,” Chicca concludes, “that once you set it up, it will perform in all kinds of environments. That's the beauty of this result.”
The fact that a robot can navigate in a realistic environment is not new. Rather, the model gives insight into how insects do the job, and how they manage to do things so efficiently.
Chicca explains, “Much of robotics is not concerned with efficiency. We humans tend to learn new tasks as we grow up. This is reflected in the current trend of machine learning. But insects are able to fly immediately from birth. An efficient way of doing that is hardwired into their brains. In a similar way, you could make computers more efficient.”
【解题导语】 本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了物理学家伊丽莎贝塔·奇卡用像昆虫的机器人模型让我们深入了解昆虫如何完成导航工作,以及它们是如何高效地完成任务的。
