A
When I was a little boy growing up, I would always change out of my good clothes after school and run outside to play for a few hours. When I came back inside, the house would smell heavenly. It was my grandma who was making our Sunday dinner. It wouldn't be
proper to just call it a feast (盛宴). There would be freshly-made Italian bread with butter. There would be noodles covered in red sauce(酱汁) slowly cooked for hours. Slowly cooked with the sauce too would sometimes be meatballs, potatoes, chicken, beef or deer meat and most often a mix of them. I remember we would all gather around the old, metal dining table. Then we would eat with smiles, laughter and joy.I always felt so peaceful and safe there. We always left dinner feeling full up and very happy.
As I got older and became an adult myself, I tried to make something like Grandma's Sunday dinners.I got the sauce recipe from Dad and often I would get very close to making a dinner like Grandma's but it was never quite right. There finally came a point when I realized what I was doing wrong. While I was trying to rediscover a taste, what I really wanted to do was to bring back a feeling. It wasn't just the delicious food that made those dinners so wonderful, it was also the feeling of love that was there.Grandma always put her love into her cooking and always put her love into her life.Since then I have tried my best to do the same.No matter what I am cooking or what I am doing, I always try to season it with love.
Each day here can be a feast of love if we make it.Each day here can be a feast of joy when we share it.

(2025·牡丹江市一中月考)Good vegan milk (纯素奶) needs to look like milk and taste like milk, whether it contains fat or not. Vegan milk is only one example in the growing types of plant-based alternatives (替代品) to animal products, such as meat, cheese, eggs and fish. Last year the world's largest producer of canned tuna began to sell a plant-based product. Growing sales show the growing taste for this sort of food, which means alternative proteins have come a long way since 1980s.
Producing techniques have been improved, resulting in better products and lower prices of them, which meet the needs of a growing number of people. Some vegetarians say no to meat, but yes to fish. Some people are trying to cut fat for health reasons. Fitness lovers want to develop muscular mass and strength without building up fat. Concerns about animal rights and greenhouse gases from raising livestock (家畜) are driving the environmentalists to limit their intake of animal based proteins. As is reported, producing a gram of beef gives off 25 times the amount of greenhouse gases as producing a gram of tofu.
However, plant-based proteins are a tough sell in giant markets like India, where diets are already plant-rich, or Nigeria, where meat-eating is a sign of being rich. That limits their global popularity. What's more, animal products, including milk and meat, are better for children's bone development, though lab-grown meat and dairy products are becoming more nutritious.
All this suggests that alternative proteins have far to go to replace the animal kind.

A.To encourage a healthy diet.
B.To show people's growing taste.

6.What's the main idea of paragraph 2
A.Ways to meet the needs of people.
B.Benefits of animal based products.
C.Results of improved producing techniques.
D.Reasons for choosing plant-based products.

7.Why are plant- based products unpopular in India
A.Indian diets are rich in plants.
B.Eating meat means being rich.
C.Plant-based products are produced in labs.
D.Plant-based products are bad for children.
根据倒数第二段中的“However, plant-based proteins...where diets are already plant-rich”可知,植物性产品在印度不受欢迎是因为印度人的饮食富含植物。

8.What's the author's attitude towards plant-based proteins
A.Supportive. B.Doubtful.
C.Objective. D.Unclear.

While for many a cook, serving up the fanciest
and most delicious meals is the final aim, Rudolf Brand has an extra aim: fighting food waste. He believes that with his dishes, he can have a big influence on people's way of thinking about food and food waste.
With 22 years of experience, including Michelin starred restaurants in London and Amsterdam, he has seen a lot of food wasted in his career. So what is the best way to prevent this For him, it really comes down to one important thing: “Rather than think about what you want to cook, look at the remainder, what's available, and then make a menu. This is what every cook should do.”
He's clear on his solution. “Lose that fanciness, and look at the quality of the product and the flavor,” Rudolf explains. “There are too many cooks who are trying to make their dish too fancy. They want to have only the biggest sea fish.Or they make a dish with only the heart of the cabbage, only using the best leaves, and then they throw away the rest.” He shakes his head at the idea of such waste.
He knows that one of his suppliers—a local farm—is left with a growing food mountain when top Michelin starred cooks only buy the prized cuts of meat instead of ordering the whole leg. In just three or four weeks, the farm is left with 1,000 legs of lamb in the freezer. “And that's just one supplier,” he says.
While other cooks will only accept the best ingredients (原料) from their suppliers, if something is smaller or damaged or has a few black bits, Rudolf is still going to use it.“Just because I'll accept produce of a slightly lower quality doesn't mean I'm going to serve food of a less quality. It's my job to turn that into good quality food on the plate,” he says. As a cook, he thinks he has a duty not only to cook delicious food, but also to reduce food waste.

(2025·日照月考)Why do Americans struggle with watching their weight, while the French, who consume rich food, continue to stay thin Now a research by Cornell University suggests how lifestyle and decisions about eating may affect weight. Researchers concluded that the French tend to stop eating when they feel full. However, Americans tend to stop when their plate is empty or their favorite TV show is over.
According to Dr. Joseph Mercola, a health expert, the French see eating as an important part of their lifestyle. They enjoy food and therefore spend a fairly long time at the table, while Americans see eating as something to be squeezed between the other daily activities. Mercola believes Americans lose the ability to sense when they are actually full. So they keep eating long after the French would have stopped. In addition, he points out that Americans drive to huge supermarkets to buy canned and frozen foods for the week. The French, instead, tend to shop daily, walking to small shops and farmers' markets where they have a choice of fresh fruits, vegetables, and eggs as well as high-quality meats for each meal.
After a visit to the United States, Mireille Guiliano, author of French Women Don't Get Fat, decided to write about the importance of knowing when to stop rather than suggesting how to avoid food. Today she continues to stay slim and rarely goes to the gym.
In spite of all these differences, evidence shows that recent lifestyle changes may be affecting French eating habits. Today the rate of obesity—or extreme overweight—among adults is only 6%. However, as American fast food gains acceptance and the young reject old traditions, the obesity rate among French children has reached 17%—and is growing.

PART
01
一、be able to的用法

P2)I've enjoyed food from both countries ever since I was able to hold a knife and fork—and chopsticks!
P6)Then you'll be able to train your brain to select healthy food in real situations.
P6)So, if you're a sugar addict and aren't able to say no to chocolate or cola, you had better download it now!
2.be able to表示“能力”时,和can的用法相似,但也有区别:
(1)be able to有多种时态形式,而can只有一般现在时和一般过去时两种时态,即can和could;
二、have to的用法

P6)All you have to do is select the photos of healthy food.
U1)In year ten, students usually have to learn nine subjects and they can also choose to study other subjects, such as History, Art and Business.
U2)After the first class, however, I had to admit that I had been wrong about tai chi.
否定式为don't/doesn't/didn't have to。
2.have to和must的用法区别:
(1)have to强调客观上的必要性;而must强调说话者的主观意愿;
(2)not have to意为“不必”;而mustn't意为“不许、不可以”,表示禁止。

(1)(教材P3)Mum says we'd better not eat too much roast food as it may make us suffer from heat inside our bodies.
(2)You'd better store the fish in the refrigerator if you don't cook it immediately.

A
Parents can cut the chances of their children getting
fat simply by keeping them longer at table.Just three extra
minutes at a family mealtime could help avoid child fatness. Research found that the reasons might lie in communication and the importance of a scheduled mealtime.
Dr.Barbara Fiese said, “ Children, whose families have a 20-minute meal over four times a week, weigh less than kids who leave the table after 15 to 17 minutes. Over time, those extra minutes per meal add up and become really powerful.”
Researchers studied 200 family mealtimes, testing the influences of mealtime behavior of families with children in primary school. They found that families, who said that shared mealtimes were an important part of family life and had special meaning for them, were less likely to have fat children. Similarly, families, who talked more together and communicated more positively during the meal, were more likely to have healthy-weight children.
Teaching families how to make the most of family mealtimes was a wise idea. Dr.Fiese said, “This is something we can target and teach.” She added.“It's also important to recognize the increasing differences of families and their sometimes complex living schedules that may challenge their abilities to plan ahead and set some time to communicate with each other.”
Families in poorer US neighborhoods faced a lot of problems, including poor chances of getting healthy food. But even so, regular high quality family mealtimes made a difference to the children's weight. Dr.Fiese said, “Three to four extra minutes per meal will make a healthy weight more possible.”

People who sleep less than six
hours a night are more likely to die early, researchers in
the University of Warwick have found in a recent study. They discovered that people who slept for less than six hours each night were 12% more likely to die before the age of 65 than those who slept the recommended six to eight hours a night.
The researchers pointed out that previous studies had shown that the lack of sleep was associated with problems like heart disease and high blood pressure. However, the researchers also found that sleeping too much was linked to an early death. Those who slept for more than nine hours a night were 30% more likely to die early, as an article in the latest Sleep suggested. That directly contradicts another passage in the same journal last month suggesting that people who slept for ten hours or longer a night were more likely to live to 100. This was thought to be because people who lived into extreme old age were healthier and therefore slept better.
However, the authors of the latest research contradicted this and suggested that long sleep was a sign of underlying illnesses such as depression and low levels of physical activity. Professor Francesco Cappuccio at the University of Warwick said, “While short sleep may represent a cause of ill -health, long sleep is believed to represent more an indicator of ill -health. ”
He also mentioned, “Modern society has seen a gradual reduction in the average amount of sleep people take, and this pattern is more common among full-time workers, suggesting that it may be due to social pressures for longer working hours. On the other hand, the worsening of our health is often accompanied by an extension of our sleeping time. ”
“Consistently sleeping six to eight hours per night may be good for health. However, whether to achieve the goal depends on various factors such as the environment as well as measures of public health aimed at favourable changes of the working environments,” Professor Francesco Cappuccio added.
