A father worked hard to pay for his family’s needs. The pressure of working, paying bills (账单) and hosting visiting friends made him feel like he was carrying a heavy bag on his back. Over time, he became angry easily, shouting at his son and arguing with his wife over small things.
One evening, the son came up to him with a notebook, “Dad, can you help me with my schoolwork ”
Already stressed, the father sent the boy away. Without a word, his son left. Later, when the father felt a little better, he went to the child’s room, finding the boy asleep with homework in hand. He carefully took the notebook and put it down. His eyes fell on the notebook:
Things that don’t seem good at first will turn out to be good later I’m thankful for exams because after them, we get summer holidays. I’m thankful for medicine because it helps me get better. I’m thankful for my dad. He makes me sad sometimes, but he hugs me and plays with me often.
Tears filled the father’s eyes. For the first time, he saw his life differently:
“Paying bills means we have a house.”
“Friends visiting means we are not alone.”
“Working hard means I can live better.”
He kissed his son and said softly, “Sorry.” The moonlight went through the window, covering them in a gentle glow.

Dough figurine making (面人制作) is a traditional Chinese art. It has a history of about 2,000 years in China. Though some people said it might vanish, dough figurine makers are still working very hard to stop it from dying.
Peng Xiaoping is a great dough figurine making artist. He also teaches students about traditional art. “I pass on not only the skills, but also the experience of running a business.” he said. “If I only teach them how to make the figurines, my students won’t be able to make a living (谋生) from it, and it will not be possible to pass on the traditional art to more people.”
Many young people are interested in this traditional art, but they’re facing many difficulties. There are few professional (专业的) classes teaching students about this art. Also, because of the materials (材料), if dough figurine makers make any mistake, they have to do it all over again.
Peng believes he can teach young people in a new way. “One of my friends is studying animation (动画) design at university, so I’m thinking about bringing animation and dough figurines together. Making dough figurine cartoons would be an exciting way to pass on the art to young people.” he said.

Sometimes animals are so badly injured that common medicine cannot help them. However, animal lovers can still come to save them. In Brazil, a group of them use their knowledge of medicine and computer technology to create man-made body parts for those injured animals.
The technology is called three-dimensional (3D) printing, which can create all kinds of objects from a cup to a toy truck. It takes a lot of plastic. Now, a Canadian company has solved this problem. It has invented the ProtoCycler, which can turn waste plastic, such as bottles, into plastic that can be used in a 3D printer.
Last year, the Brazil team used 3D printing to help a poor tortoise (陆龟), Freddy. A forest fire had burned 85% of her shell, the hardest part of her back. In other words, her shell was nearly gone. The whole team worked together to give her another chance at life.
First, they took photos of Freddy and of a healthy tortoise with a complete shell. Then, they used a computer program to design a new shell that would fit her exactly. A 3D printer created the new plastic shell. After that, the finished shell was attached to (贴附于) Freddy’s body. The new shell fit well, but the white plastic did not have a natural look. Later, an artist painted the shell so that it looked like a real one. The results were very fantastic. Freddy now lives with the people who helped save her life.

Many people love to listen to music while driving. Thanks to the musical roads around the world, drivers now don’t need to turn the radio on. 41
A musical road can create music when a car’s tires go over grooves (凹槽) on the road. To produce beautiful music, drivers must pass over the grooves at a certain speed. Signs often tell drivers the right speed.
42 Since the mid-1990, musical roads have appeared in many different countries. 43 To remind drivers of the incoming music, people mark all the roads with colored musical notes. Drivers can decide whether to go over the grooves or not because they are set on the side of the road.
In Hungary, there is a musical road in honor of one of the country’s most popular musical performers — Laszlo Bodi. Bodi was the lead singer for the band. 44 Sadly, Bodi passed away in 2013. But people still remember him as there’s a road where drivers can hear 30 seconds of the song “Road 67”.
Musical roads also help ensure the safety of drivers. In Indonesia, a road plays the first six notes of “Happy Birthday”. The fifth note is a little out of tune, though. This “mistake” keeps drivers awake, and it has reduced the number of traffic accidents. 45
A. Such is the role of music and musical roads. B. However, they can enjoy music while taking road trips. C. Musical roads can help improve driving skills greatly. D. The first musical road appeared in Gylling, Denmark, in 1995. E. We are able to enjoy music by turning on the radio on the road. F. For example, there are many musical roads in China. G. Formed in 1990, the group is still active today.
