Once upon a time, a daughter told her father she was tired of her hard life because it was full of problems.

On a hot summer day, a hungry fox walks slowly through a field. He has not eaten since (自从) morning and feels very tired. After a while, he comes to a farm. There, on a tall vine near a fence, he sees a big bunch of purple grapes. The grapes look round, juicy, and very sweet.
The fox’s mouth begins to water. “I must eat those grapes!” he thinks. He wants them very much. First, he stands on his back legs and reaches up as high as he can. But the grapes are too high. Next, he takes a few steps back, runs, and jumps into the air. He almost touches them, but he falls back down. He tries again and again, jumping higher each time. He jumps ten times, but he still cannot reach the grapes. He is now very tired and angry.Finally, the fox stops. He looks at the grapes for a long time. Then he turns around and starts to walk away. As he walks, he says to himself, “I don’t want those grapes anymore. They are probably sour (酸的) and not sweet at all. They are not good for me.” But we all know the truth—the grapes are most likely sweet. The fox only says they are sour because he cannot get them. This story teaches us not to make excuses (借口) when we cannot get what we want.

There were four seeds (种子) and they were good friends. They came to a new place by the wind. They hoped they could grow up and become big trees here.
But soon they found it was not easy. There lived some monkeys. They liked throwing (扔) bananas at small plants for fun. Once the seeds got out of the ground, they would get hurt (受伤) and even die. Then three of the seeds decided to wait for the monkeys to leave, before they tried to grow.
But the smallest seed thought she should have a try. When she started to grow, bananas hit her. The other seeds all persuaded (劝说) her to stop. But she tried even harder.
The seed was hit again and again and she was full of scars (伤疤). But these scars made her grow even stronger. She kept growing and one day the bananas from the monkeys couldn’t hurt her any more.
The seed finally grew into a big tree. But her friends still stayed on the ground and waited for the monkeys to leave this place.

One day, a baby snail (蜗牛) found that he had to carry a big and heavy shell at any time. He was confused (困惑的), so he went up to his mother and asked, “Why was I born with a shell that grew so hard and heavy ” His mother said, “Because we don't have bones to hold us up. We can only move slowly, so we need a shell to protect us.” The baby snail asked again, “The caterpillar (毛毛虫) has no bones either, and she can’t move quickly.
