Once upon a time, there was a small village. People there didn’t like to share.

A ship had an accident on the sea. All people died except a man. He was washed up on a small island. There was no one living on the island. Every day and night he hoped someone would 21 him. Once upon a time, there was a tailor (裁缝)who lived in a small village. He was very poor but always happy. One day, while working in his shop, he saw a group of flies (苍蝇) buzzing around. He quickly took a flyswatter and hit them all with one blow. “Wow, I've killed seven flies with one blow!”he shouted proudly. He was so excited that he decided to make a belt (腰带) with the words, “Seven at one blow!”
The next day, the tailor decided to go on an adventure. He walked through the forest and met a giant (巨人). The giant saw the tailor and laughed at his small size. “What can a little man like you do ”the giant asked. The tailor answered. “I can kill seven flies with one blow!”The giant was surprised and decided to test the tailor’s strength. He challenged the tailor to a rock-lifting game. The tailor used a clever way and lifted a small rock, making it look like he was lifting a huge one. The giant was amazed and thought the tailor was very strong.
After the game, the giant became friends with the tailor and took him to the king’s palace. The king was worried about some bad men and needed someone strong to defeat (打败) them. The tailor, with his clever ways and bravery, managed to make the bad men run away.
The king was so thankful that he gave the tailor gold and a high job in the palace. The little tailor showed that bravery and cleverness are more important than size or strength.

The twelve Chinese zodiac animals (生肖) get together to celebrate the coming new year. Everyone is happy, but only Snake feels down. “I don’t think people like me,” Snake thinks to himself. “I’m not as strong as Tiger, nor as friendly as Dog. I’m not as helpful as Ox and Horse. Snakes are good at finding safe places. Let’s follow him.” Snake is so happy to hear these words. He guides the people to climb to the higher ground to stay away from danger and finds a piece of land that is just right for farming.
The people are thankful for his help and want to give him some delicious food. But Snake walks away. He has already got what he needs and believes that he can also be seen as a symbol of good luck. He feels proud that he is one of the Twelve and soon will take his turn to be the symbol of the year.
