Welcome to today's podcast. We are going to talk about names. In both China and Western countries, names often carry meanings and cultural significance.
The meanings can influence parents' choices when choosing a name for their child. In China, when deciding on a given name, there are often traditions that need to be followed. In some families, names are worked out before birth and cannot be changed.
Some names are linked with specific time periods. For example, Jiangguo, and Guoqing are popular names for people born in the 1950s and 1960s. Some parents also choose names that can express their hopes for their children. For example, Kang means good health and Yong means being brave.
