Many years ago,my mother used to read Blueberries for Sal by Robert McCloskey to me during cold winter nights.I remember it clearly,as if it happened yesterday, listening to her voice beside me.That experience had a deep and lasting effect(影响)on me.
Before I could read on my own,my mother introduced me to the beauty and power of language through this story about a girl and her mother spending time in nature with a mother bear and her baby. The wonderful story, beautiful words, and my mother being there together created a special experience I enjoyed many times. These read-aloud times played a key role in making me a reader.
Years later, while reading a picture book to a young student in class,I saw how reading aloud could also influence others. The boy had faced many challenges in his life—growing up in a poor family and often feeling lonely. However, during that shared reading moment,he felt such happiness that he came up with a meaningful idea.
He said,"Mrs. Allyn, we should make sure everyone knows how wonderful this feels.Let's create a special day for reading aloud."Inspired by his suggestion,my organization, LitWorld, set up World Read Aloud Day in 2010 as a people-powered movement to make his wish come true—that everyone could experience the joy of being read to.
Since then,World Read Aloud Day has become a global event that reaches over one million people in more than 65 countries.Today,it is celebrated in over 600 cities, and this number keeps growing.
Children who develop reading habits become active and know more about the world.Every child should be able to read.It may sound simple to say reading aloud can change the world, but that is exactly where its great value lies.Sharing stories with children is easy and costs little, but its influence can be very great.

In northern Canada, there is a strange natural wonder called an ice bridge. It is not made by people. It forms when a frozen river melts(融化)just enough to leave a single arch ( 拱形) of ice standing above the water. These bridges can be dangerous because nobody knows when they will collapse (坍塌).
The most famous ice bridge is found on the Milk River in Alberta.Scientists measured it carefully over several winters. They found that the bridge is about 12 meters long from one bank to the other. However, the arch itself is not thick all the way through. The thickest part of the ice is at the center, where the ice can reach up to 1.5meters thick.Near the edges(边缘),the ice becomes much thinner—sometimes only 20 centimeters
Why does an ice bridge form During winter, the river freezes completely. When spring comes, the water under the ice starts to melt and flow (流动)faster. The flowing water eats away the ice from below, except in places where the ice is thickest.Slowly,a natural arch is cut out.The ice above the arch stays frozen much longer because cold air keeps it from melting.
Ice bridges are hard to find. They require just the right temperature, river flow, and ice thickness. Most ice bridges last only a few weeks before they collapse. The one on the Milk River has been studied by glaciologists(冰川学家)for years. They use lasers(激光)to measure how fast it is melting.
If you ever see an ice bridge in person,do not walk on it.Every few years, someone tries to cross one and falls through. The ice may look strong, but it is always changing. As one scientist said,“An ice bridge is nature's way of showing off—for a very short time.”

A.It gets eaten away by flowing water from below.
B.It becomes thicker because of more snow.

D.It turns into a rainbow-colored arch.
( )64.What can we learn about the Milk River ice bridge

B.It lasts for many years without melting.
