Core Grammar: Present Perfect Tense
Where the past meets the present — actions that echo into now
Concept & Time Markers
■ What does it express :
The Present Perfect Tense connects a past action to the present moment — showing experience, recent completion, or continuing relevance.
→ I have just eaten. (I’m not hungry now.)
→ She has lived here since 2020. (She still lives here.)
→ They have never been to Japan. (Zero experience up to now.)
■ Key Time Markers:
① already / yet / just / ever / never → focus on experience/completion
② for / since → indicate duration (for + period; since + point in time)
③ recently / lately / so far / up to now → emphasize present relevance
Three Basic Structures
Affirmative & Negative Forms
■ Structure:
S + have/has + past participle (V3)
→ I have seen that movie. (I’ve seen…)
→ She has finished her project. (She’s finished…)
■ Negative:
S + have/has not (haven’t/hasn’t) + V3
→ They haven’t visited the museum yet.
→ He hasn’t called me since Monday.
★ Remember: have for I/you/we/they; has for he/she/it.
Yes/No Questions & Responses
■ Question Form:
Have/Has + S + past participle
→ Have you ever tried sushi
→ Has she already left
■ Short Answers:
Yes, I have. / No, she hasn’t.
→ Yes, I have. It’s delicious!
→ No, she hasn’t. She’ll be here soon.
★ Note: that is often omitted in spoken English.

Integrated Practice: Present Perfect in Object Clauses
Grammar Structure & Logic
■ Core Rule 核心规则:
When the main clause is in the past tense, the object clause can use the Present Perfect Tense to express an action completed before the time of reporting — emphasizing its relevance to the present moment at the time of speaking.
■ Structure 结构:S + said/thought/asked/etc. + (that/if/whether) + S + have/has + V3 + ...
■ Key Semantic Function 语义功能:The Present Perfect in the object clause highlights that the action was completed before the reporting verb and still carries present significance — e.g., result, experience, or current relevance.
■ Example 例句:
She said she had already finished her project. (She finished it before she spoke — and it’s now done.)
He asked whether I had ever visited Kyoto. (The experience is relevant now, not just in the past.)
Common Errors & Clarification
■ Frequent Mistakes 常见错误:
She said she finished her project. → Incorrect if emphasis is on completion before speaking and current relevance.
She said she had finished it. (Past Perfect for sequence)
She said she has finished it. (Present Perfect — acceptable when speaker confirms present status at time of reporting)
■ Why Present Perfect Works Here:
→ It preserves the present result (e.g., 'the project is done now') even though the reporting verb is in the past.
→ Contrasts with Past Perfect, which focuses only on sequence ('finished before she spoke'), not current relevance.
→ Real-world use: common in interviews, news reports, and personal narratives where outcomes matter now.

Collaborative Knowledge Mapping
Work in groups to complete this knowledge network — connecting core concepts visually and meaningfully. Fill in the blank nodes with key examples and rules: (1) Time markers for Present Perfect (e.g., already, since, ever); (2) Irregular past participles (go–gone, write–written); (3) Connector functions (that = fact; if/whether = uncertainty); (4) Real-life contexts (travel stories, health updates, academic feedback). This map transforms grammar from isolated rules into a living, usable system.
