Most people who move to a foreign country may experience a period of time when they feel very homesick and have a lot of worries. This feeling is often called "culture shock(冲击)". It is important to understand it and learn what to do with it if you want to adapt to your new home's culture successfully.
Generally speaking, there are four stages (阶段) that you will experience after you move to a foreign country. The first stage is usually called the "excitement" stage. When you are in a new environment, you'll be interested in the new culture. Everything may seem exciting and everyone may seem friendly.
But it won't be long before you move from the "excitement" stage to the second stage. The excitement you felt at first turns into worry. It seems that everything is difficult. The language is hard to learn, friends are difficult to make, and even simple things like shopping have become a difficult problem. It is at this "stress" stage that you may feel worried and homesick. This is the stage which is called "culture shock".
However, culture shock doesn't last for very long. If you are one of those who manage to get through it, you will move to the "recovery(恢复)" stage. At this stage, you start to understand and accept the way things are done and the way people behave in your new environment.
The last stage is the "home" stage. This is the stage when you start to feel at home in the new culture. You start to learn from your new home and to like some ways of the new culture better.
Culture shock is common. Everyone in a new situation will go through it. Continue to be brave! And getting through culture shock will be a piece of cake.

One day in autumn, Squire Gordon, my master, went on a trip into town. John, my caretaker, went with him. I pulled the cart. The weather was rainy and windy, but we travelled happily.
Mr Gordon's business took a long time. We didn't leave until late afternoon. The wind got much stronger. My master said to John, "I have never been out in such a storm!" Mr Gordon and John could not see well in the rain.
We came to a wooden bridge. It was nearly dark. We could just see that the water was over the middle of the bridge. But as that happened sometimes when the floods were out, my master did not stop. The moment my feet touched the first part of the bridge, I felt sure there was something wrong. I dared(敢于) not go forward, and I made a dead stop. "Go on, Beauty," said my master, and he gave me a touch with the whip(鞭子), but I dared not move. He gave me a sharp cut and I jumped, but I dared not go forward.
"There's something wrong, sir," said John, and he got out and tried to lead me forward. "Come on, Beauty." But I knew that the bridge was not safe.
Just then the man on the other side saw us.
"Hey! Halloo! Stop!" he cried.
"What's the matter " shouted my master.
"The bridge is broken in the middle, and part of it is carried away. If you go onto it, you'll be into the river."
"Thank you for saving us, Beauty!" said John. He gently turned me onto the road on the right by the riverside. It grew darker and darker, stiller and stiller.
When we returned home, Mr Gordon told Mrs Gordon, "Black Beauty saved our lives. He knew the bridge was dangerous."
John took me to the stable. Oh! What a good supper he gave me that night! What a nice bed of straw! I was glad of it, for I was tired.

First, I used to be careless with my homework and was bad at my lessons. But now I listen carefully in class. I am more and more interested in all my lessons. Second, I used to spend most of my free time listening to music and playing computer games. But now I try to spend my free time reading because it can broaden my horizons and make me relaxed. Third, in the past I often dropped litter everywhere and shouted loudly in public places. Now, I behave politely. I always recycle the waste to protect the environment.
I believe I will be better in Grade 9.
Thanks for your listening!
