We were mice, living in a cold, white lab. On our very first day here, the scientists showed us a picture on a screen. Below the picture there were a few strange black marks. A recorded voice repeated the same sound: “T-R-E-E, tree.”
The training went on endlessly. Over the following weeks, we learned more: CAT, DOG, FISH, BIRD and many others. They also showed us the marks in different shapes and sizes. I could remember them all, but I had no idea what they meant. When we were not training, we were locked inside our small cages. We grew tired and scared, and none of us understood why we had to learn these strange marks at all.
Then one day, my friend Jenner passed me a secret message. “Look at the sign near the door,” he said. I turned and saw a white card with rows of black marks — just like the ones we had been studying. Suddenly, something became clear. Those marks were not just shapes. They were words. My heart beat fast as I read the whole sign “NO CATS ALLOWED”. At that moment, I understood. Reading was not just training. It was power!
Later that night, I studied the words printed on my friend’s cage door: “To open the door, pull the handle forward and move it to the right.” I reached through the cage and did exactly what the sign said. A few seconds later, the door opened. One by one, we all learned how to let ourselves out.
The scientists taught us to read. But they never dreamed that reading would one day open the doors of our cages.

Some people need to take medicine every day. However, it’s not always easy to remember to take the right pills at the right time. This can be especially hard for older people or for patients who take many kinds of medicine. Now a small machine called PillBot can help.
PillBot was invented by Gregory Shechter, a middle school student in California. Gregory saw his grandfather take nearly 30 pills a day. Even with careful notes, his grandpa still couldn’t remember when to take different pills. That’s how Gregory got the idea of inventing PillBot.
PillBot is a smart pill box. It has a 3D-printed shell (外壳). Inside the box, there is a special part with a tiny computer and small motors (马达). When it is time to take medicine, this part pushes out pills. It also makes sound and lights up to remind users to take the pills.
Many smart pill boxes on the market are expensive. Some cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars. Gregory wanted his machine to be cheaper, so he used 3D-printed parts. The main material for the shell costs only about ten dollars per kilogram. So more people can afford PillBot. The open-source (源代码开放的) design is also an advantage of PillBot. That allows users to make their own pill boxes according to their personal needs, such as different pill shapes and different times to take medicine.
Gregory won a Lemelson Early Inventor Prize for PillBot. This prize is for young people who find problems and come up with creative ways to solve them. Gregory’s grandfather’s problem is actually very common. According to the National Institutes of Health, 75% of Americans have trouble taking their medicine on time. This leads to about 125,000 deaths each year. PillBot works well in tests. That means it offers a possible solution to this big problem.
33.How did Gregory get the idea of inventing PillBot
A.He talked to many patients. B.He had trouble taking pills.
C.He noticed his grandpa’s problem. D.He read his grandpa’s notes.
34.What can PillBot do
A.It can produce different pills. B.It can treat difficult illnesses.
C.It can remind patients to take pills. D.It can offer a timetable to patients.
35.What does “That” in Paragraph 4 refer to
A.A small shell. B.The low cost of PillBot.
C.A 3D-printed part. D.The special design of PillBot.
36.What is the main purpose of the last paragraph
A.To list ways to improve PillBot. B.To show the importance of PillBot.
C.To give advice on inventing PillBot. D.To prove PillBot is popular in America.

“Wow! Look at that! Isn’t it a real fish ” The bionic fish, named “Jinlin”, was swimming lively like a real one. It was developed by researchers at Shanghai Ocean University. This invention isn’t just for fun—it shows how humans borrow designs from nature to solve problems. That is a science called bionics.
Over millions of years, animals and plants have found smart ways to survive. For example, kingfishers can move fast between air and water with little noise because of their long beaks (喙). Scientists used this idea to change the front of high-speed trains. This change cut down noise, increased speed by 10%, and saved a lot of energy.
Today, with the help of AI, bionics is growing fast. The bionic fish “Jinlin” can explore the deep sea. In medicine, bionic arms work like real ones. Sensors help users “feel” things, and motors help the arms move like muscles (肌肉). With AI, these arms can even “learn” to do new tasks and become smarter. These inventions show how bionics helps solve human problems.
Although so much progress has been made, bionics faces difficulties. Nature’s designs are hard to copy perfectly. As for bionic arms, one key area of development is Brain—Computer Interface (脑机接口). Scientists are working on the communication between the brain and bionic arms. This will help the arms move like real ones. They are also working on creating new materials and structures which can sense and repair themselves.
While there’s still a long way to go, the future of bionics is full of possibilities. Maybe you’ll be the next one to change the world!
37.According to the writer, bionics is a science that ________.
A.only makes machines for fun
B.learns from nature to help us
C.studies how to catch real fish
D.teaches people how to swim well
38.What is the writer’s main reason for writing Paragraph 2 and Paragraph 3
A.To explain why trains need to save more energy.
B.To tell us that bionic fish are better than real fish.
C.To give examples of how bionics is used.
D.To show that bionic arms are already perfect.
39.According to Paragraph 4, how will scientists make bionic arms move like real ones
A.By copying nature’s designs perfectly.
B.By connecting them to smart phones.
C.By improving brain-arm communication.
D.By making them look like real arms.
40.Which of the following shows the use of bionics
A.Building a taller building to save space in a big city.
B.Planting more trees in the park to make the air cleaner.
C.Using a computer to find information about deep-sea fish.
D.Studying how a plant leaf stays dry to make a better umbrella.

Owning a pet is a fun and rewarding experience. But animals and their needs are different, so how can you make sure that you choose the right one for yourself Here are some top tips.
Do your research
You may like the look of a special pet but that doesn’t mean it is right for you. 41 So, think carefully about what you want from your pet and do some research before you keep it.
Some pets may also require more vet care than others. Take French bulldogs and pugs for example, they can suffer many health problems over their lifetime, including problems with their breathing and skin conditions due to their special features. 42
Think about your lifestyle
For example, if you work full time and you want a dog, who would take care of it during the day 43 Know yourself with the size and exercise requirements of different pets to make sure they’re the right choice for you.
Do your sums
44 Consider the cost before you pick a pet and make sure you can afford it. From everyday things like insurance, food and toys to unexpected vet bills, having a pet is certainly a spending.
Use a trustworthy breeder (饲养员)
If you do want to buy a dog or cat, ask a vet or breed club to recommend a trustworthy breeder. Ask the breeder for all the relevant paperwork and see the pet’s parents or relatives to check their temper, general health and welfare (福利). 45 It is because these may well turn out to be dealers who have little interest in the welfare of the pets they sell.
Choosing the right pet takes time and thought, but it’s worth it. A happy pet and a happy owner start with making the right choice.
A.Don’t throw yourself into money problems.
B.Don’t shop online or from dealers who have no requirement.
C.Charities can offer support and advice about personal pets.
D.Every pet has its own personality and some often have strong characters.
E.If you want a cat, can it go outdoors while you’re out during the day
F.We’d advise pet lovers to do their research before taking on one of these pets.

What happens when lots of AI programs get together online and talk like humans do That’s what a new social network called Moltbook, made just for AI bots, wants to find out. So far, the results are b 61 amazing and worrying, according to AI and computer safety experts.
Moltbook was started by technologist Matt Schlicht. It l 62 like a social media site, but instead of real people, AI programs make posts, write messages, and like or dislike content. Bots are computer programs that can do tasks on their o 63 , like organizing emails or booking trips.
Moltbook uses a tool called OpenClaw. It lets users make bots and give them jobs. Users can also give bots different “personalities”, for example, making them a 64 calmly or excitedly. Then people can put the bots on Moltbook, where they post messages and talk to each other.
The platform said over 1.5 million AI bots joined its service, making it a hot topic in the tech world. Some say it’s a big s 65 forward because it shows what AI can do, just like humans. But others say the site has lots of problems and safety risks, and we should be c 66 with it.
The biggest worry is computer safety. Researchers have found big problems in Moltbook. These problems could let bad people get into the p 67 information of the people running the bots. A safety company checked Moltbook and found it let others get into all its user data quickly, leaking (泄露) t 68 of email addresses.
Experts say OpenClaw and Moltbook are new technologies. They s 69 using them only on safe, separate systems, by people who know about computer safety. China’s safety office has also w 70 about the risks of OpenClaw, after some local governments and tech companies tried using it.

On March 20, 2026, China saw a rare mix of sky events and cultural traditions. The traditional Dragon Head Raising Festival happened on the same day as the Spring Equinox (春分)—a special meeting that takes place about once every 19 years. The next one will happen in 2045.
Celebrated on the second day of the second lunar month, the Dragon Head Raising Festival gets its meaning from ancient ideas about nature and new beginnings. In Chinese stories, the dragon wakes up with spring thunder, bringing life back to the land. For many people, the day marks a fresh start and carries the promise of a good harvest.
Well-loved traditions continue across the country. Many choose to get a haircut, a practice meant to leave behind bad luck and welcome new chances. Special “dragon-themed” foods are also widely enjoyed: spring pancakes for dragon scales, noodles for dragon whiskers (龙须面), and wontons (馄饨) for dragon eyes. These dishes carry sincere wishes for health and good luck. Some families use herbs (草药) to drive away insects, expressing hopes for health and successful farming.
The Spring Equinox, one of China’s 24 Solar Terms, arrives as the sun crosses the equator (赤道), making day and night almost equal in length around the world. As temperatures rise, swallows return, and thunder becomes more common. With good weather, enough rain and bright sunshine, crops grow quickly, making the equinox very important for farming.
The coming together of these two events carries double meaning. The festival stands for rain, energy and the start of spring farming. The equinox represents balance, harmony (和谐) and natural growth. Together, they show the deep connection between Chinese culture and nature, and express people’s common hope for good weather and fruitful years.

My Growing Story
Last year, I was afraid to speak in public and had no confidence in myself. My English teacher noticed this and encouraged me to join the school speech competition. I practiced every day and kept telling myself “I can do it”. Finally, I won third place.
From this experience, I learn that confidence comes from trying. As long as we step out of our comfort zone, we can grow into a better self.
