With the arrival of the summer heat,culture-themed ice creams are once again trending across social media platforms in China.
Museums, scenic spots, amusement parks and even universities have once again rolled out their unique culture-themed ice creams this year. These ice creams are often tiny copies of famous landmarks or cultural relics that offer visitors a delight for the taste buds.
The trend of culture-themed ice creams began in 2019 when the Old Summer Palace in Beijing was one of the first scenic spots in China to introduce lotus-shaped (荷花形状的) ice creams. It was inspired by that in 2017 eleven ancient lotus seeds were discovered in a pool at the Old Summer Palace.Six of these ancient lotus seeds bloomed in the summer of 2019.So to mark the occasion, staff at the Old Summer Palace designed ice creams shaped like lotus blossoms. These ice creams were widely loved by visitors, not only serving as a cold treat but also offering a unique way for visitors to connect with their cultural heritage.
To protect their cultural relics, many museums have put up signs prohibiting photography or the use of a flash.However,culture-themed ice creams provide an alternative way for visitors to catch memories of their visits.Various flavours offer visitors a choice of colours and ingredients for the ice cream, which reflects the local characteristics and charm of these cold treats. It is also suggested by the museums that the visitors can take the carved ice cream bars home with them to use as bookmarks.
For many young people, taking photos of themselves standing alongside cultural landmarks is an artistic preference from their parents’ generation. To them,a selfie (自拍) with a culture-themed ice cream is a much cooler way to show their travel experiences and bridges the gap between modern life and distant historical relics.

It was May 1945 when what would become one of America’s most common home-cooking techniques first entered the English vocabulary. In her cookbook,How to Cook and Eat in Chinese,Chinese immigrant Chao Yang Buwei described a process common in China,in which cooks would cut meat and vegetables into small pieces and then tumble (翻) them rapidly together over heat.“The Chinese term for the technique,ch’ao,cannot be accurately translated into English,” Chao decided,“We shall call it ‘stir-fry’ for short.” The term has since taken on a life of its own.Nowadays,stir-frying isn’t just a method—“stir-fry” has become its own category of recipe.
Chao came to cooking unexpectedly. She moved to America with her husband in 1921 after her husband was offered a job at Harvard.Bored at home and only able to speak a little English, she turned to cooking dishes that reminded her of China. She eventually agreed when a friend earnestly persuaded her to write a cookbook, which was then translated by Chao’s daughter and polished up by her linguist husband.
Her cookbook succeeded, going into multiple printings by 1945.English-language Chinese cookbooks had been published as far back as 1911 in America, but Chao’s was the first that refused to westernise Chinese cooking.“I’ll show you how to cook crab dishes with real crabs,” Chao told readers in a passage where she forbade them from using sea crabs in place of the freshwater variety.Using the former, she reasoned, would result in “a caricature (夸张的描述) of the Chinese dish”.During Chao’s era,it might have been easier for foreign cooks in America to please the American tastes with substitutions. She wore her Chinese heritage with pride. She didn’t follow suit.
Chao pioneered a new cooking method in America.Unwilling to compromise, she was a true visionary.Sadly, she died in 1981.
( )8.What can be learnt about “ch’ao”
A.It is a recognised cooking method now.
B.It was accurately translated into “stir-fry” by Chao.
C.It means tumbling many big pieces of ingredients over heat.
D.It was a common term already used in American cooking before 1945.
( )9.Why did Chao turn to traditional Chinese cooking when moving to America
A.She happened to take an interest in cooking.
B.She didn’t know any American way of cooking.
C.She was bored to stay at home only to learn English.
D.She missed her homeland and her country’s cuisine.
( )10.What is special about Chao’s cookbook
A.It was the first to emphasise the use of freshwater crabs over sea crabs.
B.It was the most successful cookbook published on Chinese cooking.
C.It was the first to be faithful to real Chinese cooking and recipes.
D.It tried to please the American tastes as other similar cookbooks.
( )11.Which of the following best describes Chao
A.Academic and unfailingly helpful.
B.Pioneering and culturally proud.
C.Recognised and linguistically talented.
D.Adaptable and technically achieved.

The building of Sanxingdui Museum is crowded with visitors, many of whom were drawn to a bronze figure with a twisted head.Tourists stop to admire the remarkable artifact (手工艺品),which was unearthed by archaeologist Xu.After graduating from Peking University,Xu has been working for Sichuan Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology, leading the excavation of Pit No 4 where the statue was found. The young man emphasises that archaeological excavation is arduous (艰难的),yet the thrill of discovering new relics remains unforgettable.
To increase awareness of cultural heritage diversity,18 April has been set by UNESCO as the International Day for Monuments and Sites.Like Xu,many young Chinese people are playing significant roles in excavating, exploring, protecting and promoting cultural relics.Born in 1992,Zhang has served as a guide at Emperor Qinshihuang’s Mausoleum Site Museum for over 10 years. He sets himself apart from other guides by incorporating techniques from traditional Chinese comedy xiangsheng,or crosstalk, into his explanations. He views his role as not just a job but a legacy, being the third generation in his family to work with the Terracotta Warriors. His grandfather was among the museum’s founding builders while his uncle is a professor in an archaeological team based there. Now,it’s Zhang’s turn to become a storyteller of the Terracotta Warriors.
Wu,a Chinese blogger born in the 1990s,offers people dynamic insights into the beauty of Chinese civilisation through his acclaimed (受到高度赞扬的) “national cultural relics map” which has gone viral online.Wu has marked a great number of cultural heritage locations, including temples, ancient pagodas, traditional residences, bridges and towers on the dynamic map.Dots of varying colours represent different levels of cultural heritage protection and museum grades.Together, they form “the most distinct colours” on our land,Wu says.Looking ahead,Wu aims to refine and update the map based on suggestions from network users, desiring to eventually share the valuable resource with other history and culture enthusiasts.

Shuangjiang is the 18th of 24 solar terms (节气) in the Chinese lunar calendar. It refers to the time when frost starts to fall across China,or “the dews(露水)were frozen into frost” because of the coldness,as recorded in ancient Chinese books.
By the time of Shuangjiang, most of the harvesting work is already completed in northern China, and farmers are now able to enjoy a period of rest. But in the south the harvest is still on the go.Farmers have to take home the sweet potatoes before they are destroyed by the coming frost. After a year of farming,it is the time to plow the fields and prepare the soil for next year in both south and north.
Autumn might be the most colourful season in China with the leaves turning from golden yellow to red.Hiking has become popular since the ancient times as people can enjoy the special autumnal scenery.Du Mu,a well-known poet from the Tang Dynasty wrote the beautiful scenery in a poem:“I stopped the coach as charmed by the maple woods.Frosted autumn leaves outshine February flowers in redness.”
The Double Ninth Festival,a festival for the elders, also falls during the season.Going hiking in the highlands is part of the celebrations practised by the ancient Chinese people.
“Keeping warm” becomes the most important thing at this time of the year as the weather is getting colder.Persimmon (柿子) is the favoured fruit in many areas. The Chinese believe that persimmons could not only keep off the coldness, but strengthen the muscles and bones. Also, chicken or mutton soup is believed to be good for the sleep and advised for the diet.
Shuangjiang brings the frost and freezing wind, and autumn has come to an end.But for most Chinese,it is not necessarily a sad time because in winter, they are able to have different but equally beautiful scenery.

Bonding Over Dumplings Online
In October, our Students’ Union held an online culture café to allow our schoolmates to learn how to make Chinese dumplings together. The international group brought together members from China,India,Malaysia,Indonesia and Australia.1.
After introducing the process of wrapping dumplings,we wrapped the meat filling into the centre of the dumplings. Some foreign schoolmates were quite confused because they pressed the edges with the palms of their hands.2. To make a beautiful dumpling,it’s important to pinch(捏住) its edges a little tighter and push the sides towards the centre to seal them to guarantee that the fillings will not fall out while cooking.
One schoolmate from Australia said she never knew how much fun it was to make dumplings before, and she was curious about why dumplings are so popular with the Chinese.3. When I was a kid,my grandma told me the underlying(潜在的)culture of dumplings is its inclusiveness and diversity.Different types of fillings suit different eating preferences for Chinese people. Thus, dumplings will come with a variety of fillings, such as pork and cabbage, chicken and mushroom, shrimp and vegetarian fillings.4. No matter what types of fillings are in dumplings, people focus more on their symbolism and expectations.
5. Not only did we have an enjoyable discussion about wrapping dumplings, but we also conveyed a positive and inclusive attitude towards cultural diversity. It was a positive experience, and the foreign schoolmates got a better understanding of Chinese food and Chinese culture.
A.The dumplings were all delicious.
B.The online session was meaningful.
C.However,some foreign schoolmates learnt quickly.
D.There is no “one standard filling” for all types of dumplings.
E.Born in a traditional Chinese family,I shared my story with her.
F.Therefore,we taught our schoolmates step by step.
G.The activity fostered an exchange of cooking skills and cultural experiences.

“Bye,Mom; bye,Dad; don’t worry. We’ll take care of everything!” Carly waved from the front door of the shop as her parents drove off. They were headed for a well-deserved vacation from their candy store, and Carly had promised them she’d be able to run it by herself. Her parents didn’t quite agree, however,so they gave in to each other by having Carly’s Aunt Maggie come over and help. Her parents often called her aunt “uniquely creative”,but it didn’t matter; Carly always had fun when her aunt was around.
Maggie blew into the store happily.“All right,Carly my love, what do we do first ” she smiled at her niece.Carly knew clearly the main job was to serve customers,so she could hardly wait to make her best candies.Seeing them on display,Aunt Maggie bit a bite of the chocolate mint- flavored candy.“It’s good,but... unoriginal,” commented her aunt.“We can do better.”
Before Carly could question what Maggie meant, she had gone to investigate the kitchen in the back.Shortly, she came back, hands full of items.“We need to add some of these to better the basic taste.” “Brussels sprouts(芽甘蓝粉) ” Carly looked at her aunt, surprised and puzzled. She couldn’t be serious! But she was.Carly’s eyes grew wide as she watched her aunt mix it together. “And some spicy sauce (辣酱汁) That’s definitely an ice cream flavour. The cold will perfectly make candies less spicy!” Carly shook her head as Maggie continued her strange candy combinations: lemonade-flavored candy,barbeque-flavored candy...
Carly looked up as the bell over the front door rang, announcing some customers.Three boys came in and approached the counter.“Try something new!” insisted Maggie, offering the first boy a piece of the Brussels sprouts candy she had made, the second boy a spoon of hot sauce...Puzzled, but too polite to argue, the boys left the store.
“There go our customers.Nobody will want to shop here!” Carly said to herself. The store was quiet.Carly sat behind the counter, not knowing what to wait for.

Facing the growing digital economy and new positions incubated (孵化) in the sector such as delivery men and live-streaming hosts, young people, especially those born after 2000,are expressing a stronger willingness for flexible work relations with companies, and also wish to become “digital workers” with flexible work locations and schedules.
A report from Peking University’s National School of Development released on Wednesday said that nearly 66 percent of surveyed employees born after 2000 prefer to work from home. The number is higher than surveyed people born after 1970,with about 54.4 percent of them preferring the new way.
“The Internet can do anything for me.I check emails from my clients and submit my proposals through communication software, then we discuss plans via teleconference.I love working from home actually,” said Mi Lu,a 28-year-old new media operator in Beijing.“It’s a much more convenient and cooler thing. We work everywhere, perhaps in a cafe,or on a bullet train or even on the table of a restaurant.”
Hu Jiayin,an associate professor in Peking University’s National School of Development, concluded that their survey shows that young people desire freedom in their jobs, but also wish for stability in their careers because of uncertainties brought by the fast-changing digital economy.
“But the development of the digital economy also brings great uncertainties and a sense of insecurity to the working population,so we’ve found some interesting things during our surveys that over 30 percent of job seekers we’ve surveyed wish to have a stable job at state-owned companies,” she added.
Li Jun,vice-president of a company, said that the greatest risk to those seeking flexible work is whether the company pays the salary fully and on time.“It’s necessary for job seekers to set up a long-term development plan, rather than be shortsighted.” He added that companies may bear risks that flexible employees can’t deliver high-quality work in a limited time period, which requires the companies to establish a sound work delivery standard to help evaluate employee performance.

Virtual reality gamers who finished the VR game faster than their fellow gamers also have higher levels of general intelligence and processing capacity. This was the result of a study conducted by Mr Weinmann from the University of Cologne. The results also indicate that virtual reality games can be useful supplementary human-resource-management tools in companies for predicting the job performance of an applicant.
Several studies have already shown that VR games may indicate or even help to develop intellectual and cognitive abilities. As intelligence is one of the most commonly used predictors for job performance,VR games could be interesting for human-resource-management.Although many companies are increasingly using VR technology to recruit(招募)candidates, only a few studies have specifically investigated whether and how VR games can be used to draw conclusions about intelligence in this area. The study contributes to bridging the gap between research and practice.
Weinmann invited 103 participants to his lab.Under controlled laboratory conditions, they played a commercial VR game and completed the short version of the intelligence test BIS-4.The researcher’s analyses show that an increase of 17% in processing capacity correlated with less time spent playing the game (by an average of 3.7 minutes).
The results are a scientific novelty,as it has hardly been possible to conduct VR studies with state-of-the-art VR hardware. There are thus few studies that have investigated the correlation between behavior in VR and intelligence,“There are already some companies that use games,so-called ‘serious games’,for recruiting. The new results are in line with this specific application of VR games and show that they can be used for recruiting,”said Weinmann.
The scientists intend to continue their research on the potential of VR games for practical applications.Among other things, they are investigating how people behave in virtual world.

When I made the decision to quit my full-time employment,I never thought that I could get involved in an increasing global trend.I had to leave my relatively high-profile position for an unexpected move that hurt my pride and prevented me from getting promoted.Yet,I excused my departure by saying “I want to spend more time with my family.”
Curiously, after around two and a half years,my experience in what Americans refer to as“downshifting” has turned my excuse into an absolute reality.I have been transformed from a passionate advocate of Linda Kelsey’s “have it all” concept, which she has been promoting for the past seven years in the pages of a magazine, into a woman who is content to accept a little bit of everything.
I have discovered that abandoning the idea of “juggling your life” and adopting the alternative strategy of “downshifting” has benefits that go far beyond financial success and social status.Nothing could convince me to go back to the lifestyle Kelsey used to promote and which I had previously enjoyed: 12-hour workdays, tight deadlines, the terrifying pressure of office politics, and the demand of being a parent on “quality time”.
After the widespread layoffs (裁员) brought on by cost-cutting in the late 1980s,America started to move towards a simpler, less materialistic way of life as a response to the economic downturn. In America, simplifying one’s life is frequently done for financial reasons, but in Britain,at least among the middle class I know,we have different motivations for doing so.For the women of my generation who were encouraged to keep juggling, downshifting is not so much a search for a mythical (虚无的) good life—growing your own organic vegetables, and risking turning into one—as a personal recognition of your limitations.

Jim Johnson,a mail carrier, was an institution in the leafy Westmoreland,Westhaven and Westover Hills neighborhoods, just north of downtown Wilmington, where he delivered much more than the mail.He knew all the kids and their pets by name;he carried in the groceries;he took note of unlocked doors, offered gardening advice, and taught more than a few young boys the art of the curveball. When he wasn’t doing all that,Jim was running across a checkerboard of green lawns (草坪) to ensure the local postal service did not fall short of its daily promise.
Though the postal service is often disparaged now,the trust in local postal service lives on.In many communities, that trust is won every day when life-saving medicine, greeting cards, social security checks, college acceptance letters—even the bills—appear in mailboxes in front of the houses.
After more than three decades,Jim approached his final days on the job much like any other. He drove a boxy postal truck to North DuPont Road for the first unofficial stop of the day.Butch,a dog who belonged to one of the neighbors, was waiting just like every day before. And just like every day before,he got into the jump seat and they were off.On the route,Jim and Butch had become inseparable. Now,the dog and the mailman would ride off to retirement together. At every stop,Jim accepted the parting good wishes of families that had become his own. There were tears and laughter, and hugs filled with warm memories.
It’s been 33 years since Jim left the route, but we are still reminded of the deep bond established between community and letter carrier. That’s what the postal service means to us.

I am a multisport athlete and seasoned coach. When I was growing up,school wasn’t really my thing, but sport very much was.Athletics connected me to my school community by giving me a sense of belonging and success even when I struggled in the classroom. When I entered education,I knew I wanted to be more than a coach on the field and court—I wanted to help students like me make meaningful connections to school through sports.
I designed a programme that focused on getting students moving. On the first day,I set up a range of equipment for different sports across a field. In groups, students discussed sports that they felt comfortable and safe playing. They then took turns selecting their comfort sports on the field, doing brief introductions, and playing with their groups.Afterwards,we had a class discussion on the importance of doing things that bring joy and passion, and how sharing that passion with others motivates us and the people around us to improve health.
On the second day, with the same field design and sporting equipment,I introduced the idea of stretch zones.Students formed the same groups as on the first day and discussed which sports were out of their comfort zone and more challenging to them. Some of my students were shy and others slightly frustrated as they struggled to perform the skills in sports in which they were not comfortable. Then we discussed,as a class, how even when something is challenging,if we recognise the difficulty and intentionally practice,we give ourselves the opportunity to overcome it over time and keep healthy and fun in the long-term.
The programme required more than just adjusting my curriculum—it also meant some changes to the way I taught.I found myself opening up to my students and sharing my own hardships and successes with them.As a result,my students felt freer to be their real selves.

How steady you are on your feet can indicate how likely you are to live a longer, healthier life. The ability to remain upright and steady is something that we take for granted, until something goes wrong.
The balance system is made up of lots of different sensory components, explains Nicola Harris,a health expert.Good balance depends on correct sensory information from your eyes, muscles, tendons(腱),and joints, and the balance organs in the inner ear.
The most obvious benefit of good balance is that it helps prevent falls and therefore injuries, and simply makes daily activities easier and safer to perform.Unless you develop a balance disorder, the first time people become aware of balance issues is when they get older.
Harris says that people with balance problems at her clinic often talk about the loss of the ability to look from side to side as they cross the road because they feel unsteady.“That is fundamentally because the balance system as a whole starts to get worn down,” says Harris.
Pilates, dance and tai chi are all good exercises to maintain good balance.“Other things that work your balance slightly differently, but again really good, are ball games.Anything involving hand-eye coordination, such as tennis or table tennis,” says Harris.
However, she warns against just doing strengthening exercises in the gym using machinery: “That’s not going to improve your balance.” Including weights and resistance bands into your workout will not only strengthen your bones and muscles, but your balance, too.

Around 2 million deaths each year are linked to physical inactivity. And a sedentary (久坐的) lifestyle is one of the leading causes of death in the world.
A new study published in the journal of the American College of Sports Medicine suggests that regular short exercise“snacks”throughout the working day might be enough to mitigate the effects of a sedentary lifestyle.
For the study,11 participants (参与者) sat for 8-hour sessions.During the sessions, they followed one of four exercise “snacks”—1 minute of walking after every 30 minutes of sitting,1 minute after 60 minutes,5 minutes every 30 minutes, and 5 minutes every 60 minutes—or a “snack” with no walking.
The researchers found that participants’ blood sugar and blood pressure levels were reduced after 5 minutes of walking for every 30 minutes of sitting.
Lead study author Dr Keith Diaz, associate professor of behavioral medicine, said the most exciting part of the new research is that they’ve answered how to prevent the harmful health effects of sedentary sitting.
The researchers also found that all exercise“snacks”resulted in a reduction in participants’ tiredness, and an improvement in mood when compared to no walking at all.
“Beyond improving your physical health,”Dr Diaz said,“having regular walks to break up your sitting will put you in a better mood and help you feel more energetic.”
Dr Diaz added that the next steps for the research include finding more ways to reduce the harmful effects of sitting.
“We hope to find the least amount of movement you have to do to prevent the health harm of sitting,”Dr Diaz said.“The reality is that many adults will find it hard to walk every half hour.So finding a more practical recommendation is still needed.”

Want to learn a new language or get A’s in college exams Previous studies have shown that exercise can help stimulate the areas of the brain that convert (转换) new information into long-term memory.A new study has taken this information one step further and found the best time when exercise can help maximize learning.
Building upon past research that found exercise releases biochemicals that improve mental function, scientists at Radboud University and the University of Edinburgh conducted a study to determine when exercise was most beneficial to learning.
Participants—72 healthy male and female adults—were first asked to perform a computer test that challenged their visual and spatial learning. After the test, all of the subjects watched nature documentaries, but two-thirds of them also exercised.Half of the exercisers did circuit training on an exercise bike for 35 minutes immediately after the test. The other half did the same exercise but not until four hours after they had been tested.
Two days later, all of the participants returned to the lab for a recall test, and they were connected to MRI (磁共振成像) machines to assess their brain activity. The participants who exercised four hours after taking the computer test were able to recall what they had learned most accurately.Their brainwaves also showed more consistent levels of activity, indicating that their brains were less taxed to remember what they had learned.
According to this research, the best time to exercise to improve learning is four hours after studying. But why That’s one question the researchers have yet to answer.Another question left unanswered is the level of exercise that might best improve learning.I’ve run enough marathons to prove the fact that my brain is anything but sharp during or after a tough workout. But the researchers noted that light workouts might not give the brain enough of a biochemical boost to improve learning.

Wu,a Chinese blogger born in the 1990s,offers people dynamic insights into the beauty of Chinese civilisation through his acclaimed (受到高度赞扬的) “national cultural relics map” which has gone viral online.Wu has marked a great number of cultural heritage locations,i ncluding temples, ancient pagodas, traditional residences, bridges and towers on the dynamic map.Dots of varying colours represent different levels of cultural heritage protection and museum grades.Together, they form “the most distinct colours” on our land,Wu says.Looking ahead,Wu aims to refine and update the map based on suggestions from network users, desiring to eventually share the valuable resource with other history and culture enthusiasts.

Shuangjiang is the 18th of 24 solar terms (节气) in the Chinese lunar calendar. It refers to the time when frost starts to fall across China,or “the dews(露水)were frozen into frost”because of the coldness,as recorded in ancient Chinese books.
“Keeping warm”becomes the most important thing at this time of the year as the weather is getting colder.Persimmon (柿子) is the favoured fruit in many areas.

Maggie blew into the store happily.“All right,Carly my love, what do we do first ” she smiled at her niece.Carly knew clearly the main job was to serve customers,so she could hardly wait to make her best candies.Seeing them on display,Aunt Maggie bit a bite of the chocolate mint-flavored candy.“It’s good,but... unoriginal,” commented her aunt.“We can do better.”
But she was.Carly’s eyes grew wide as she watched her aunt mix it together.“And some spicy sauce (辣酱汁) That’s definitely an ice cream flavour.
注意:续写词数应为150个左右。
Paragraph 1:
With the sound of the bell again, the boys came back.
Paragraph 2:
Carly had never seen the shop so busy!

What Aunt Maggie created some new flavours of candies.
Conflict & Clue Conflict: Carly could hardly wait to make her best candies, but the candies were not original. Clue:Her parents often called her aunt “uniquely creative”.
Theme Aunt Maggie was good at creating something new to attract customers’ attention.
Para.1 With the sound of the bell again, the boys came back. Q1:Why did the three boys come back Q2: What did they do Q3:How did Carly and Aunt Maggie feel
Para.2 Carly had never seen the shop so busy! Q1:What did the customers do Q2: How did they feel after a tiring day Q3:What did they say to each other
  One possible version:
With the sound of the bell again, the boys came back. But this time there was a crowd of kids with them.A line was forming out of the door! The silence was replaced with excited chatter. The kids were laughing, pointing at the new candy flavours, and pulling handfuls of coins from their pockets.“I’ll have a piece of lemonade-flavoured candy, please!” “Give me two pieces of Brussels sprouts candies, please!”“The hot sauce ice cream,please!”... Carly and her aunt were occupied serving all the customers, and more lined up at the door every minute.
Carly had never seen the shop so busy! It seemed that the customers could not get enough of Maggie’s crazy candy combinations.Incredibly! When they finally sent the last customer out of the door and turned on the “Closed” sign that flashed in the window, they were exhausted but in extraordinarily high spirits. That might have been the craziest day, ever. Giving her aunt a thumbs-up,Carly said smilingly, “Aunt Maggie, you’re a genius.” “I know,”grinned her aunt, winking at Carly with the usual childish smile on her face.
点津:1laughing, pointing at the new candy flavours, and pulling handfuls of coins from their pockets是连续性的动作描写;
2 it作形式主语,连接词that引导主语从句;
3 when引导时间状语从句,sent the last customer out of the door以及turned on the “Closed” sign为动作描写,that引导的定语从句修饰先行词the “Closed” sign,exhausted以及in extraordinarily high spirits是情感描写;
4 Giving her aunt a thumbs-up是非谓语动词作状语;
5 grinned her aunt是倒装结构,winking at Carly是非谓语动词短语表伴随,with the usual childish smile on her face为神态描写。必修 第一册

( )1.What attracts the young people to become “digital workers”
A.The increasing network security.
B.The convenient transportation.
C.The flexible working style.
D.The bright prospects.
( )2.What do we know about Hu Jiayin’s conclusion
A.Digital economy is interesting and promising.
B.Young people pay little attention to instability in working.
C.30% of surveyed job seekers desire to work in government agencies.
D.The development of digital economy is a double-edged sword for job seekers.
( )3.What does Li Jun mean in the last paragraph
A.Job seekers lack ambitions.
B.Employers are shortsighted.
C.Some companies require working overtime.
D.Flexible work conditions need improving.

There are thus few studies that have investigated the correlation between behavior in VR and intelligence,“There are already some companies that use games, so-called ‘serious games’,for recruiting. The new results are in line with this specific application of VR games and show that they can be used for recruiting,”said Weinmann.
The scientists intend to continue their research on the potential of VR games for practical applications.Among other things, they are investigating how people behave in virtual world.
( )4.What can we learn from Weinmann’s study
A.The results are far from satisfactory.
B.The participants can play the game freely.
C.It aims to develop intellectual ability.
D.It helps to combine research with practice.
( )5.What is Weinmann’s attitude to the result of the study
A.Unclear. B.Intolerant.
C.Favorable. D.Doubtful.
( )6.What is the last paragraph mainly about
A.Limitations of the study.
B.Possible directions for future study.
C.The present situation of the study.
D.The explanation of the research method.
( )7.Which of the following is the best title for the text
A.VR games can be used in recruitment
B.VR games can indicate intelligence level
C.VR games improve applicants’ performance
D.VR games have gained popularity in management

In America, simplifying one’s life is frequently done for financial reasons, but in Britain, at least among the middle class I know,we have different motivations for doing so.For the women of my generation who were encouraged to keep juggling, downshifting is not so much a search for a mythical (虚无的) good life—growing your own organic vegetables, and risking turning into one—as a personal recognition of your limitations.

B.Downshifting allowed the writer to make her dream come true.
C.The writer changed her way of thinking through downshifting.
D.The writer accepted the concept in a magazine because of downshifting.
( )10.What does the underlined phrase “juggling your life” in Paragraph 3 mean
A.Settling for a bit of everything.
B.Choosing to live a simple life.
C.Adopting a busy and stressful lifestyle.
D.Staying away from a materialistic way of life.
( )11.What does the writer intend to tell us
A.It is never too late to pursue your dream.
B.Downshifting results in a more satisfactory and simpler life.
C.There is a difference between the American and British cultures.
D.People should adopt downshifting to search for mythical experiences.

However, she warns against just doing strengthening exercises in the gym using machinery:“That’s not going to improve your balance.” Including weights and resistance bands into your workout will not only strengthen your bones and muscles, but your balance, too.
( )5.What does the underlined word “components” in Paragraph 2 mean
A.Personalities. B.Manners.
C.Parts. D.Approaches.
( )6.Which statement is true about a balance disorder
A.It can be easily found in our everyday life.

Many factors in our life can lead to anxiety and stress.Luckily, there are several simple ways of relieving stress. Most of these steps are responsible for the improvement of your overall health as well.1. Physical activity leads to a lowering of the overall stress levels and it also improves your quality of life both physically and mentally.
Any physical activity improves the capability of your body to use oxygen and it also leads to better blood flow.2. Exercise increases the production of endorphins (内啡肽) in the brain. The endorphins are responsible for the “feel good” effect you feel and they also provide you with the much-desired “runner’s high”.In simple terms,it is the sense of well-being people receive after performing the exercise.
3. How do you choose the best physical activity for your exercise There is no need for you to be an outstanding athlete or a long-distance runner to achieve stress relief. For instance, you can perform some aerobic exercise (有氧运动) such as jogging and dancing.4. Doctors can help you develop an effective and safe exercise routine while taking into account your fitness level and the conditions you are suffering from.
Keep in mind that any kind of exercise will improve your fitness and reduce stress levels. You can also combine the activities till you have found the most enjoyable one.If you do not enjoy going near the water, never take swimming as a form of exercise. If the thoughts of running result in making you anxious,do not choose to train for a 5-kilometre race.5.
A.Diet and exercise are proven equally important.
B.There are many ways to meet your exercise target.
C.One of the best strategies to reduce stress is exercise.
D.Both these things lead to a direct good effect on the brain.
E.Besides,it is also a good idea to consult your doctor for guidance.
F.It is necessary for you to make plans to form a healthy exercise habit.
G.Therefore,be sure to select an activity that you enjoy rather than fear.

Around 2 million deaths each year are linked to physical inactivity. And a sedentary (久坐的) lifestyle is one of the leading causes of death in the world.
A new study published in the journal of the American College of Sports Medicine suggests that regular short exercise “snacks” throughout the working day might be enough to mitigate the effects of a sedentary lifestyle.
The researchers also found that all exercise “snacks” resulted in a reduction in participants’ tiredness, and an improvement in mood when compared to no walking at all.

( )3.What can all of the four exercise “snacks” reduce
A.People’s tiredness.
B.People’s weight.
C.People’s blood pressure.
D.People’s blood sugar.
( )4.Why does Dr Diaz plan to continue the research
A.Because the finding is likely to be wrong.
B.Because the solution may have side effects.
C.Because the solution is not suitable for all.
D.Because the study hasn’t got much attention.

( )5.What did the new study aim to explore
A.When exercise is best for learning.
B.What biochemicals are good for health.
C.How brainwaves should be measured.
D.Which area of the brain is the most active.
( )6.What were all the participants asked to do during the experiment
A.Train on bicycles.
B.Do mathematics exercises.
C.Play computer games.
D.Watch films about nature.
( )7.Why did the participants return to the lab two days later
A.To do a medical examination.
B.To have their memory tested.
C.To get their workouts recorded.
D.To finish their previous tasks.
( )8.What might the author’s marathon running prove
A.The findings of the study are reliable.
B.Long-distance runners are often smart.
C.Studies on the marathon are not enough.
D.Hard exercise may not sharpen the brain.

Although many over-processed foods can satisfy the desire for sweet, fatty and salty foods, research suggests these items are particularly bad for the heart and brain, with mood and cognition taking a hit.
The most recent research looking at the 1 of over-processed foods found the most far-reaching results.Researchers 2 direct links between higher consumption of over-processed foods and a greater risk of many health issues.
These results are 3 earlier studies.Diets high in these foods were linked to a greater risk of depression and anxiety, according to an analysis published in a journal. In one of these studies, risk rose from 4 just 33 percent of calories from over-processed foods.A separate study found that taking in just 20 percent of calories from these foods was linked to a 28 percent faster rate of cognitive 5 compared with people who ate less over-processed foods.
Also 6 is that a study tracking about half a million people living in England,Scotland, and Wales found that the risk of dementia (痴呆) went up by 25 percent for every 10 percent increase in over-processed foods. While the exact cause-and-effect relationship is still unknown, the strongest evidence from prospective studies 7 the idea that eating high amounts of over-processed foods increases the risk of depression in the future.
It is common knowledge that eating too much salt or sugar is linked to high blood pressure and Type 2 diabetes. What the public may not appreciate, 8 ,is that all these conditions affect the brain by raising the risk for dementia. 9 such as certain artificial sweeteners may also disturb the production and release of brain chemicals, such as dopamine, which can negatively affect mental and emotional 10 .
Another problem with over-processed foods is that they might be addictive.Over-processed foods have more in common with 11 than foods by Mother Nature.Humans have evolved to respond to foods that are sweet, fatty, and high in calories. For most of human existence, this helped us 12 .But in nature, foods are 13 modestly high in sugar—like berries—or high in fat, like nuts. You don’t find foods high in both sugar and fat. That’s a distinctive 14 of over-processed foods.Add in salt, artificial flavourings and bright colours, and our brains simply
