Last summer, I went to Hongcun, an ancient town in Anhui. It was a faraway place, and the moment I got there, I was amazed. The landscape was so beautiful! There were clear rivers running through the town, old houses with nice artworks on the walls, and a blue sky above. It truly took my breath away.
In Hongcun, there were thousands of old houses. People there loved their homes. They wanted to keep the old look of the houses. So, they carefully protected the outside of the houses, with silk curtains at the windows and ancient towers. But inside, they made the houses comfortable. They added modern things like soft beds and clean bathrooms.
A guide led me to a big square. People were getting together there. Some were eating delicious steamed chicken, and others were talking and laughing in the sun. “This is our sweet home,” the guide said. “We love it here because it has our history and our happy life.”
From this trip, I learned that a sweet home is not just a place to live. It’s a place full of love, history, and good memories. Hongcun shows us how we can keep our old homes beautiful and make them comfortable at the same time.

Last weekend, we decorated the house for Grandma’s arrival from Canada. I helped pack her favourite tea set while Dad borrowed chairs from neighbors. Wherever I went, the familiar smell of lemon cleaning spray(喷雾) covered everything, mixing with the smell of newly painted walls.
When Grandma entered, she almost cried seeing the old clock we’d hung up. “That clock stopped the day I left!” she whispered, touching it like a treasure. Everything in the house is filled with too many memories of Grandma’s life. Soon, the kitchen was filled with laughter(笑声)as we shared stories with her. We cooked many dishes that Grandma usually loves to eat.
At bedtime, Grandma invited me to her room. That night, I dreamed of her young hands planting roses in this same garden many years ago. So I learned that a true home isn’t just a place to live, but a living memory filled with love that welcomes everyone back.
