As to sports culture, collaboration is key. Just as a 1.joint (adj. 联合的)effort is needed in team sports, every athlete has a 2.motto (n. 座右铭)they live by, pushing them beyond their 3.boundaries (n. 边界). Many athletes recall their early days and imagine how, 4.afterwards (adv. 以后),they would 5.proceed (vi. 接着做)with strict training to maintain a 6.consistent (adj. 一致的)performance. This dedication showcases not only their 7.humanity (n. 人性)but also their 8.rank (n. 级别)among peers.

The 9.trend (n. 趋势)in sports often mirrors societal values. For instance, during an 10.election (n. 选举)year, athletes might use their platform to express that they are 11.ambitious (adj. 有雄心的)for change. While their training routines might seem 12.identical (adj. 完全同样的)to an outsider, each 13.fellow (adj. 同伴的)athlete knows the unique challenges they face, from the strain on their 14.chest (n. 胸部)muscles to the agility required of their 15.ankles (n. 踝关节).

As they 16.gradually (adv. 逐渐地)progress in their careers, many athletes attend training 17.sessions (n. 一段时间,一场)led by a 18.chairman (n. 主席)or coach. They learn to 19.pour (vt. & vi. 倒,斟)their energy into every practice, aiming to achieve the status of a 20.celebrity (n. 名人)in their field. Their 21.dignity (n. 自尊)and respect for the sport become evident, even as they navigate the unique 22.idioms (n. 习语)of their sport's language.

Off the field, the importance of equipment can't be understated. The (n. 球门网)in tennis or soccer, for instance, is crucial. Athletes also understand the significance of 24.insurance (n. 保险),especially in contact sports. Many, retiring from their active careers, turn into 25.salesmen (n. 售货员)endorsing products or 26.handling (vt. 处理)sports-related businesses. Their 27.remarks (n. 言论)on the game often provide invaluable insights for the next generation.

(2025·江苏镇江模拟)
Traditionally, business associates would get to know each other over a round of golf, but road cycling is fast catching up as the preferred networking way for modern professionals. A growing number of corporate-sponsored charity bike rides and city cycle clubs are providing ideal opportunities to talk shop with like-minded workmates and clients while discussing different bike frames. Many believe cycling is better than golf for building lasting working relationships or landing a new job because it is less competitive.
Peter Murray, a former architect, explains: “When you play golf with somebody, you have to decide if you're going to beat them, or let them beat you. If they're a client and you don't want to beat them, you have to sort of cheat to lose. That's not a good way.” Group cycling, especially long-distance riding, is a shared experience where riders work together, taking turns at the front to help others save almost a third of the effort. A keen long-distance rider, Murray founded the annual Cycle to Cannes in 2005—a six-day charity event where architects cycle 1,500 km from London to the MIPIM property fair in France each March, having raised £4.5m for charities.
Jean-Jacques Lorraine, a regular participant, says cycling reveals character: “Conversations flow easily. I often say things I wouldn't normally, and others share things with me unexpectedly. Some riders are single-minded, others cooperative; some plan cleverly, others an open book.”
Simon Mottram, CEO of Rapha, notes long-distance cycling lifts mood, focusing on riding and companions. “The rhythm of fuelling, riding, celebrating eases life's stresses.” Unlike quick post-work meals, long rides allow deeper connections and break the gap between higher and lower positions: “A younger rider might help a CEO, changing their off-ride relationship.”
Perhaps the most compelling reason why cycling is a good way to network is that, for many professionals, it's a passion and a way of life they share.“It's what we dream of while at our computers,” Mottram adds.

I'm Eden. Growing up, I've always really struggled with my confidence. I tried various things to enhance it, like workouts. I really enjoyed them, but I struggled to find a sense of community and really connect with the workout and what it stood for. Then I started taekwondo (跆拳道). On my first day, I was scared to enter the stadium and remember assuming I was just there to try and see what it was all about without thinking it as part of my life.
But then I fell in love with taekwondo. I met loads of people from different clubs, from all across the UK and from all diverse backgrounds, ages and genders (性别). Our shared passion in taekwondo connected us. We poured much time into training, travelling, and competing. Over the last two years I've experienced a long-term health condition. The assistance of my taekwondo family, especially my coach, has really helped me weather (平安地度过)tough times.
Some unforgettable moments about taekwondo are deeply rooted in my memory. When I was only 11 years old, I had to open the competition in front of 400 people, which sounded rather frightening! But it was a real opportunity to do something I never thought I could, and I remember feeling proud of myself. Another standout moment was when I started coaching the younger students in the club. I was 15 and always enjoyed working with children and young people, but never had the chance to take on a more active role. Two years later I got my assistant coaching qualification and was one of the first in Northern Ireland to get that.
When I was in school, I remember being really excited to go training and get away from the highly stressful, academic environment and all the revision that came with it. Taekwondo was where I could de-stress and completely switch off from what else might be happening in my life, and I'm really grateful for that positive, safe space.

(2026·安徽安庆开学考)
On June 17th, ocean rower Lia Ditton set off on a 20-foot-long rowboat, alone and unsupported, in an attempt to set the fastest ever time for a solo (独自的)crossing from San Francisco to Hawaii, about 2,500 sea miles. Currently, the women's record stands at 99 days and the men's record at 52 days. The women's record goes to the island of Oahu and the men's record goes to the Big Island. Ditton intends to beat the record for fastest solo row for any human, man or woman.
Ditton is a licensed captain and professional adventurer. The London-born rower has been training from her base in San Francisco and has spent the final few weeks before setting off wiring her own boat, ensuring all the necessary equipment was on-board, and packing enough food for 75 days while keeping her boat as light as possible. For the past several years, Ditton has been preparing herself and her boat, ready to take on the challenge of rowing 5,500 miles from Japan to San Francisco in spring, bidding to succeed where 19 other attempts have failed. She has completed several long training rows off the west coast of America, and most recently, a successful 728-mile, 24-day training row from Ilwaco, Washington to San Francisco in September 2019.
But this week just after Lia's start, a tragedy occurred. Fellow distance rower, Angela Madsen lost her life during some routine in-water training. The waters that lie ahead aren't for the faint of heart. The journey will require Ditton to sail for the Continental Shelf before facing the possibility of ship encounters, extreme weather, and currents, and the travelling through the Shark Café, an area which great white sharks frequent.
“The Continental Shelf is always rough, but I love the challenge. I'll also row right through Shark Café,” says Ditton. “It's certainly not over, until it is over. But I'm ready for everything ahead.”

Colin Moore, a 16-year-old football player, may not leap to the top of the headlines, but his story is as inspiring as any sports tale. On the field, Colin plays just as hard as the other players. However, what makes Colin different is that he is remarkably capable of racing without a complete right arm. Born without the lower part of his right arm, Colin has never let his physical difference stand in the way of his dreams or his love for football. His personal motto, “mind of steel, heart of gold,” inspires him to move forward whatever challenges he faces.
The challenges Colin faces are unique, but he pushes himself even harder. He has always been committed to working twice as hard as anyone else to ensure his success. His goal is to become a starting center, a big target-man figure. Even though he is missing an arm, he makes up for it with his fast movements and strength, making him the perfect choice for this position.
Colin's diligence paid off when he achieved his dream of becoming the starting center for his high school team. During the championship game, when Colin's team fell behind by two touchdowns (触地得分)in the second half, the atmosphere was tense, and doubts started to appear. But it was Colin's strong spirit that helped turn things around. He urged his teammates on, reminding them of their training and how important it was to work together. In a critical moment, he made a bold move that not only scored a touchdown but also energized his teammates. They fought back with renewed strength, ultimately defeating their opponents and winning the championship title.

Colin's coach speaks highly of Colin's perseverance, “Colin was born with challenges, but every day he maintains a positive attitude and focuses fully on his training. His hard work is the evidence to his character.”
