Nowadays, many middle school students use social media and AI tools in their daily life. We
interviewed four students about their using habits.
I mainly use social media to keep in touch with my classmates and friends. After
finishing homework, I share my daily life and interesting short videos. But I
never spend too much time online. I set a time limit every day.
Zhiqing

I never use social media for chatting. I mostly use it to follow news and learn

I love using social media to join online discussion groups. We talk about school
subjects, hobbies and traditional festivals. However, I hardly use AI tools. I
prefer to think by myself instead of depending on machines.

some classmates spend hours watching videos and playing online games. I think
it is a waste of study time. I use AI only to practice my spoken English on

If you think friendship can be gentle, warm and even magical, then
you will love Charlotte’s Web.
This world-famous novel by US writer E.B. White first published in
1952 and tells a touching story. It happens on a quiet farm, where a little
girl named Fern saves a tiny pig called Wilbur and raises him with great
care and love. Later, Wilbur is sent to her uncle’s farm, where he feels
lonely and upset. One day, he hears the terrible news: He will be killed for
meat at Christmas. Wilbur is filled with fear, but a kind spider named
Charlotte decides to save him.
Charlotte weaves (织出) magical words in her web, including “Some Pig” and “Humble (谦
逊的 )”. These special words shock everyone on the farm. People believe Wilbur is unusual.
Thanks to Charlotte’s smart idea, Wilbur becomes well-known and is saved from being killed.
Sadly, Charlotte becomes very weak after laying her eggs and passes away. Wilbur looks after her
babies carefully, and they grow into his new friends.
Behind this book lies the true meaning of friendship. Charlotte risks her own life to save
Wilbur, staying up late to weave words in her web and never giving up, even when she is tired.
This shows that true friends support each other selflessly, especially in difficult times. In another
way, life is valuable, and every small living creature has its own value and should be loved and
3
respected. It inspires us to be as loyal (忠诚的) and caring as Charlotte, and as brave as Wilbur
when facing difficulties.
23. How does the writer start the passage
A. By raising a question.
B. By giving some practical advice.
C. By expressing a feeling about friendship.
24. Why does Wilbur feel fearful after being sent to the new farm
A. Because he has no friends there.
B. Because he will be killed for meat.
C. Because Fern doesn’t love him anymore.
25. What can we infer about the “magical words” in Paragraph Three
A. Wilbur is actually a special and unusual pig.
B. Charlotte is good at weaving different pictures.
C. Charlotte is very smart and tries her best to save Wilbur.
26. Which of the following best describes Charlotte
A. Loyal, caring and strong-minded.
B. Weak, selfish and warm-hearted.
C. Humble, shy and cold-hearted.
C
Sensitive (敏感的) people are everywhere. Some have sensitive feet,
or skin. Others may have a hard time laughing at their own mistakes.
Perhaps you live with someone like this. But can you imagine living with
a shameplant (含羞草)
Now, imagine that your hand is a green plant stem (茎), and each of
your fingers is a leaf. Use your other hand to touch your leaf fingers. One at a time, close your five
fingers, until you have made a fist. Quickly drop your hand down to your leg. Wait a little while,
then slowly bring your hand back to its original (原来的) position.
When you move your fingers like the plant, you understand how it acts. And it’s just this
kind of behavior that has earned the sensitive plant its name. Touch your fingers gently across the
leaves of the sensitive plant, and the leaves at once fold up like tiny green fingers. The stems
droop (低垂) as if ready to fall off the plant. About ten minutes later, the leaves reopen, and the
stems rise again!
Shameplants are easy to grow inside your house. They simply need to get plenty of water and
sunlight. But touching the plant too often can cause the plant to lose its leaves. A sensitive plant
that loses many of its leaves may become unhealthy.
Imagine the fun you can have introducing a friend to your plant! Have your friend stand close
to the plant to tell it a joke. Touch your plant with a finger, and watch your friend’s reaction (反
应) as the plant seems to nod to say no. Be sure to tell your friend the true cause of the plant’s
behavior later, though. You don’t want your friend to become overly sensitive about his jokes!
27. Which of the following shows the meaning of the underlined word in Paragraph Two
4
A. B. C.
28. Why does the writer ask readers to move their fingers like a plant
A. To do research on human fingers.
B. To teach people how to grow the plant.
C. To help readers understand the plant’s action.
29. How can we take good care of sensitive plants
A. By having a friend tell a joke.
B. By touching the plant too often.
C. By providing plenty of water and sunlight.
30. What is the writer’s attitude towards the joke in the last paragraph
A. Serious. B. Humorous. C. Unclear

My school life is colorful and memorable. It plays a very important role in
my memory.
I remember it happened when I was a boy in the primary school. One day
when the bell rang, all of us seated ourselves as usual. I expected the class
because I loved the warm-up activities before history class. After entering, Mrs.
Elva said, “Well, write down The Seven Wonders of the World, please!”
With these words, we started writing quickly. However, Anna fell into deep thought. Anna
joined our school after finishing fourth grade in her hometown. She moved here with her family
because her father was sent to work here. When seeing her simple clothes and hearing her special
accent (口音) on the first day, we made fun of her. She was a bit upset and afraid to make friends
with us.
Soon, we gave our papers to Mrs. Elva except Anna. Seeing this, Mrs. Elva lent a helping
hand. She walked to her and encouraged her to write whatever she knew. Anna replied, “There are
so many things. Which seven can I pick to write ” Hesitantly (犹豫地), she still handed in her
paper. Mrs. Elva started reading our answers and most were The Great Wall of China, Colosseum,
Stonehenge, Great Pyramid of Giza, Leaning Tower of Pisa, Taj Mahal, Hanging Gardens of
Babylon etc.
I could tell Mrs. Elva was happy as we remembered what she had taught us. Finally, Mrs.
Elva picked up Anna’s answer and read, “The Seven Wonders are—To be able to See, To be able
to Hear, To be able to Feel, To Laugh, To Think, To be Kind, To Love!” The whole class was
silent and touched. At that moment, the girl reminded us of the gifts we had, which was truly a
7
wonder. So value what we have and use what we have all the time.
56. Why did the writer expect the history class
57. Did Anna start writing answers as quickly as the other students did
58. What did the students do to Anna on the first day they saw her
59. How did Mrs. Elva help Anna
60. What do you think of Anna’s answer
