These days, talking on the phone isn’t popular because many people like to use apps like WeChat. However, sometimes you have to make a call. For some people, this can be scary. They might feel their hearts racing (急速跳动) when hearing about making a call. If this sounds like you, you might have telephobia—a fear of talking on the phone.
Telephobia is a kind of social anxiety (焦虑). When you talk face-to-face, you can see another person’s face and body language. This can help you understand what words mean. But on the phone, you can’t see those things and as a result, you may feel nervous and forget what to say.
There are ways to help make phone calls easier if you have telephobia. The first is to smile before making a call. It may sound funny, but smiling can help you feel more relaxed. Another one is to think how the call will go. Think what you want to say. You can even write down some key points. Finally, if you get a call and aren’t ready to answer, that’s OK. You can call the person back later when you feel more comfortable.
So remember, talking on the phone doesn’t need to be scary. With practice and preparation, you can make phone calls easily.
24.What does the underlined word “this” refer to (指代)

A.Because it makes the call go much faster.
B.Because it makes you feel more relaxed.
C.Because it makes the person on the phone happy.
27.What does the writer believe according to the text
A.People with telephobia can hardly make friends.
B.Some ways can make talking on the phone easier.
C.Telephobia is more common among young people.
Poyang Lake, located in northern Jiangxi Province, is the largest freshwater lake in China. It’s also the second largest lake in the country, second only to Qinghai Lake.
Long ago, during the Tang Dynasty, the lake was at its biggest, covering about 6,000 square kilometres. Today, it is just around 3,150 square kilometres. The size of Poyang Lake also changes a lot throughout the year. In summer, it is like a huge inland sea. By winter, it almost disappears.
Because of the natural cycle (周期), the lake is home to many animals. The Yangtze finless porpoise (长江江豚), an endangered freshwater animal, lives in the water. Also, hundreds of birds spend the winter in its wetlands every year. However, the wet areas are getting smaller. This makes it hard for animals living there to survive.
Luckily, local people are taking action to meet the challenge. The story of Yuan Wenbin is a great example. Yuan used to fish in Poyang Lake for a living. When he noticed the Yangtze finless porpoises were disappearing, he was worried . He stopped full-time fishing and asked his neighbours to protect the animals together. However, they didn’t take it seriously at first.
“For a long time, I felt like I was the only one who cared,” Yuan said. He wasn’t sure if his work would make a difference. However, he didn’t give up. Day by day, Yuan’s actions encouraged more community members. They started joining him to watch over the lake in2017.
Now, Poyang Lake is becoming more friendly to wildlife. Many visitors come to visit it. “I just hope our hard work can encourage more people to protect the lake we depend on,” Yuan said.
28.What do we know about Poyang Lake
A.It is the deepest lake in China.
B.It becomes bigger than before.
C.It gets much smaller in winter.
29.Which of the following does paragraph 3 answer
A.What do Yangtze finless porpoises look like
B.Why are the wet areas getting smaller
C.What makes it hard for the animals there to survive
30.How did Yuan feel about protecting the animals at first
A.Shocked and angry. B.Alone and uncertain. C.Happy and excited.
31.What is the passage mainly about
A.Freshwater animals in Poyang Lake.
B.The two most famous lakes in northern China.
C.The challenges and protection of Poyang Lake.
