Richard Turere is a young inventor from Kenya. He grew up in a village near Nairobi National Park, where lions often attacked his family’s cows. At the age of 12, he invented the "Lion Lights" to solve this problem.
At first, Richard tried to use a scarecrow (稻草人)to keep lions away. But the smart lions soon knew it wasn’t a real person. He also tried to tie his cows to trees, but that didn’t work either. One night, he walked around the cowshed (牛棚;牛舍)with a flashlight(手电筒). He found that the lions stayed away from the light. This gave him an idea. He used old car batteries(电池), wires (电线)and LED bulbs(灯泡) to make flashing lights (做出闪光效果)around the cowshed. The lights looked like someone was walking with a torch(手电筒), so the lions were scared and didn’t come near. That was the solution!
Now Richard’s Lion Lights are used in many villages in Kenya. They protect cows from lions and also help keep lions safe, because people no longer hurt them to protect their animals. Richard`s invention not only saved his family’s cows but also built a better relationship between humans and wildlife.
