After graduating college, I finally got up the nerve to quit trying to be what everyone else wanted me to be: priest, professor, or professional. My brain preferred working with my hands to working up essays.
My father had done some woodworking once, so I went back to that old house of ours, and into the shed behind it, and gathered up some of his tools. I didn’t know yet what they did, but one of them I figured out quickly. It was a mallet (木槌), made of a shaped piece of wood for a handle and a rolled-up piece of thick leather for the head. The mallet wasn’t too heavy, but it could make a sharp chisel (凿子) move grandly through a piece of wood. The handle had a light touch of red and brown paint, as if brushed by an artist, which gave the tool a special charm. My new mallet!
I began on my own and with some books to teach myself the craft. I learned that this was the long, slow method. My learning time was done in a basement, away from the curious eyes of the world. The wood I used schooled me about grain, the direction of fibers which affects the way wood splits and carves; the machines I bought educated me about accuracy and danger which affect cutting and shaping. The hand tools of my father’s, and those few I could afford, taught me the value of sharpening. But making joints go together precisely showed me only frustration.
I don’t remember the piece I worked that depressing day, but it finally got the better of me, for not agreeing with my demands for it to be perfect. I took that mallet of my father’s and slammed it into my bench as hard as I e over sometime and I’ll show you the mark in my bench. Now I am a woodworker who has been designing and building furniture for fifty years. I also founded the Northwest Woodworking Studio, where I serve as the director and primary instructor.
24.What was the author’s attitude toward others’ expectations after college
A.He felt encouraged but finally gave in. B.He admired them but lacked the ability.
C.He found them unworthy of his effort. D.He considered them ill-suited to his nature.
25.Why did the author think the mallet attractive
A.Its shape added to its practical value. B.Its leather head made it easier to use.
C.Its weight was perfectly balanced. D.Its handle looked like a work of art.
26.What does “grain” most probably mean in paragraph 3
A.The natural lines in wood. B.The smooth surface of wood.
C.The growth rings in wood. D.The different types of wood.
27.Which saying best reflects the last paragraph
A.Many hands make light work. B.One tree doesn’t make a forest.
C.The path to glory is always rough. D.A good beginning makes a good ending.

Few people outside the shipping industry know palletization, widely called “dǎbǎn” in Chinese air freight. It refers to loading goods onto standardized unit load devices, a key step that ensures the safety and efficiency of air transport. According to IATA’s 2024 report, over 90%of global air cargo depends on this method, with about 1.1 million active devices supporting cross-border delivery every day.
Palletization follows strict and clear rules: heavy goods are placed at the bottom, fragile items are kept above, and all packages are neatly arranged and tightly fixed with nets or straps. This careful arrangement prevents goods from sliding or falling during flight. Wei Jianming, a loading supervisor at Ezhou Huahu Airport, leads a team of workers handling hundreds of tons of cargo daily. A 2025 study on aircraft loading shows that standard weight distribution cuts in-flight cargo movement by 87%, greatly reducing flight safety risks and protecting valuable goods from damage.
This process also creates huge economic value for global trade. A 2023 IATA survey notes that 2% to 20% of improperly prepared load devices are rejected each year, causing flight delays and extra transport costs. During the pandemic,Guangzhou Customs’ efficient pallet system reduced medical supply handling time to within 13 hours. Special temperature-controlled pallets also protect vaccines and medicine by keeping them at 2–8℃for up to 120 hours, which is highly important for international medical support.
Modern palletization has become more technical and environmentally friendly.Eco-friendly composite pallets cut carbon emissions by 38% compared with traditional metal types, and over 10,000 have been put into use since 2023. Efficient palletization shortens the factory-to-flight process to just 15 hours, supporting hundreds of billions of yuan in cross-border trade. As a vital part of air cargo, it keeps global logistics and emergency supply chains running smoothly and reliably, connecting businesses and families across the world.
28.Why does the author introduce palletization at the beginning of the text
A.To explain a professional term. B.To lead in the core topic.
C.To show air cargo’s global growth. D.To compare different transport methods.
29.What can be inferred from Paragraph 3
A.Improper palletization causes extra economic losses.
B.All unit load devices are rejected every year.
C.Medical supplies need no temperature control.
D.Guangzhou Customs created the pallet system.
30.What does the underlined word “composite” in Paragraph 4 probably mean
A.Natural. B.Traditional. C.Metal. D.Synthetic.
31.What might be discussed in the following paragraph
A.How to expand air cargo scale in the future with palletization
B.How to update palletization operation rules for the years ahead
C.How to reduce flight delays via palletization in the coming years
D.How to further improve palletization for future development
D
We all love our parents and turn to them when we’re in need, but would you like them to hear the conversations you have with your friends in the school playground or lunch queue Social networking sites have become virtual extensions of the school hallways, so would you add your parents as “friends” and allow them to view your online activities and conversations with friends
In the past the generation gap included a technology gap, where children were up to date with the latest technology and parents were left behind, content to continue their day-to-day lives as they always had because they had no need to be tech-savvy (精通技术的). However, more and more parents are beginning to realize just how important social networks are in their lives. This realization has given many parents the motivation to educate themselves about social networking sites.
These days many people are attracted to social networking sites because they can choose who they have around them; there’s also a certain amount of control over privacy that we don’t get in real life. Sometimes we feel that privacy is violated when we must accept a “friend” request from a parent or family member.
It’s a difficult choice whether or not to allow a parent to become a part of our online lives. On the one hand we don’t want to “reject” their request because that might hurt their feelings or make them feel you have something to hide. On the other hand, if you do accept, then you could have a sense of being watched and no longer feel free to comment or communicate the way you did before.
A recent survey suggested that parents shouldn’t take it personally if their child ignores their request: “When a teen ignores a parent’s friend request, it doesn’t necessarily mean that they are hiding something, but it could mean that this is one part of their life where they want to exert their independence.”
Perhaps talking with parents and giving explanations would help soften the blow when you do choose not to add them to your friends list.
32.Why do many parents want to learn about social networking sites
A.Because they are eager to explore technologies.
B.Because they are bored with their daily life.
C.Because they want to watch their children.
D.Because they start to realize their importance.
33.What might be the reason for teens to reject their parents’ friend request
A.They have nothing to hide. B.Their privacy cannot be guaranteed.
C.They don’t want to teach their parents. D.They can’t choose friends around them.
34.Why is the survey mentioned in the passage
A.To warn parents. B.To relieve parents.
C.To challenge parents. D.To criticize parents.
35.What is most likely to be talked about next
A.How to bridge the generation gap.
B.How to make friends on social networks.
C.How to explain to parents about the rejection.
D.How to use the social networking sites wisely.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
We’re all taught from a young age to say sorry when we make mistakes and to say thank you when someone does something kind. Yet over the years, “I’m sorry” seems to have multiplied, while “thank you” has almost disappeared. We apologise for many silly things. Someone knocks into us—we say sorry. We miss a phone call — we say sorry. This constant apologising has gotten out of control. 36
Of course, we should still apologise when we truly make a mistake or when we hurt someone. 37 But many apologies are not necessary. They happen automatically, almost without thought. We do it to avoid conflict. We do it because we’ve been taught that politeness matters above all else. We assume that saying sorry will make people feel good.
38 Sometimes unnecessary apologies make everything awkward. They distract us from the real issue and even weaken our relationships. If we are always saying sorry, will our true apologies still sound sincere Probably not. And when we apologise for things that aren’t our fault, we only make ourselves feel worse.
Yet something changes when we start saying thank you instead and confidence grows. We stop trying to please everyone. 39 It helps us value what we have and judge ourselves less harshly. It reminds us that there is still good in the world — and in ourselves. And soon, the people around us will notice a change in our attitude.
Replacing sorry with thank you is a small change with a big impact. 40 It improves how we feel and how others respond to us. And if everyone took a moment to sincerely express gratitude each day, the world might quickly become a kinder place.
A.It needs to stop.
B.Gratitude also shifts our perspective.
C.However, we ignore our own feelings.
D.However, it doesn’t always work that way.
E.This has always been true and will never change.
F.A simple word shapes our mindset and relationships.
G.We stop trying to put ourselves in others’ shoes directly.
第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分)
第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分)
阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。
When sorting out community old item donations, I spotted a faded hand bound notebook, which totally shifted my view of persistence. I had long been trapped in a state of hesitation, 41 half finished tasks and giving up goals easily when facing minor troubles.
Curious about its story, I picked up the notebook instead of 42 it off with ordinary waste. Its yellowed pages recorded an elderly gardener’s daily notes on planting rare local flowers. I made up my mind to read through it and learn from his spirit, so I kept it 43 .
The gardener’s notes were full of setbacks: seedlings withered repeatedly, bad weather ruined soil conditions, and pests damaged buds constantly. Many times he intended to 44 halfway, yet he chose to stick to his plan firmly. I could feel his calmness from the plain words, urging me to stay 45 rather than give in to frustration.
I kept reading in my spare time, noticing he never 46 for instant gains but focused on daily care and long term growth. Months of steady work finally bloomed into clusters of delicate flowers, bringing him unexpected joy. When I finished the last page, a strong sense of 47 washed over me.
I realized true progress lies in steady efforts, not blind rush. This notebook didn’t just record planting skills; it taught me the most 48 lesson about self-improvement. I began to adjust my daily routine, abandoning my casual attitude and sticking to small daily plans.
Gradually, I became more 49 to difficulties and stopped escaping from challenges. I also learned to appreciate tiny progress and keep a patient heart. Sometimes life’s most precious growth never comes from brilliant honors, but from 50 small efforts over time.
The notebook later became my 51 companion in my study life. It reminded me that 52 we dare to keep trying patiently, we can break through self-limitation step by step. I once thought persistence was tough, but now I understand it is a gentle power to shape ourselves.
It is not the grand achievements but the steady persistence that 53 us move forward. This ordinary notebook, a common donated object, turned into a precious 54 for my growth. It always encourages me to keep patient and never 55 in the face of difficulties.

With the decline of traditional martial arts films, 81-year-old action director Yuen Woo-ping, returns with Blades of the Guardians 56 (protect) the spirit of wuxia. This film has earned over 1.16 billion yuan, setting a new record for Chinese martial arts productions.
The movie, adapted from a comic series, is set against the wide sand hills of the Silk Road during the Sui Dynasty. It follows Dao Ma, a bounty hunter, 57 task is to escort (押送) a criminal, only to find 58 (he) surrounded by danger.
59 other modern films filled with CGI, this movie puts more emphasis on authentic action. Shot on location in the vast desert of Xinjiang for 185 days, the film features real physical fights. This 60 (commit) to old-school filmmaking, 61 (combine) with the poetic beauty of nature, makes the scenes look vivid and powerful.
Furthermore, the film presents characters with 62 (moral) complex personalities. Many of them are not heroes in the traditional sense but ordinary people 63 (struggle) for survival. Given more independence, female characters like Ayuya 64 (show) as strong individuals seeking justice for their families, which connects deeply with modern viewers.

67.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
One rainy evening, as I was walking home from school, I heard a faint meowing coming from a nearby alley. Curiosity led me to investigate, and there, in a corner, huddle d a tiny, soaking wet kitten. Its eyes were filled with fear and helplessness.
I couldn’t just leave it there. I scooped up the little creature and wrapped it in my jacket to keep it warm. When I got home, my parents were surprised to see me with a stray kitten, but they understood my concern and allowed me to keep it for the night.
I dried the kitten with a towel and gave it some milk and a small blanket to sleep on. It purred softly, as if thanking me. That night, as I lay in bed, I thought-about-how the kitten must have been alone and scared in the cold rain.
The next day, I took the kitten to the veterinarian to make sure it was healthy. The doctor said it was just a little undernourished and needed some love and care. I decided to name the kitten Luna.
Over the next few weeks, Luna grew stronger and more playful. She would follow me around the house and curl up on my lap when I was reading. I was determined to find her a forever home.
One sunny weekend, I organized a small adoption event in the neighborhood park. Many people came to see the cute kitten, but no one seemed quite the right fit. Just as I was starting to feel disheartened, a little girl approached with her parents. Her eyes lit up when she saw Luna, and she gently stroked the kitten’s fur.
I could tell from the look on her face that she would give Luna all the love and attention she needed. With a heavy heart but a smile on my face, I handed Luna over to the little girl.
Amazed and thrilled, the little girl hugged Luna tightly in her arms.

Two weeks later, I went to see Luna in the little girl’s home.

66.【答案】 Time to Rethink Our Long Break Routine
Aiming to promote fitness, our school organizes group run during the morning break each day. However, I believe the current arrangement has drawbacks. First, not everyone enjoys or benefits from repetitive running — some find it exhausting and boring, while others with health conditions risk injury. Additionally, too many people running on the sports field often makes it unsafe or unpleasant.
To improve this, I suggest offering diverse activities. For instance, students could choose between jogging, rope-skipping, dance sessions, or quiet relaxation. Besides, grade-specific schedules might better accommodate different needs.
A flexible approach would make the long break healthier and more enjoyable for all. Hopefully there’s a routine that truly energizes us!
