Hubei has introduced its first remote-control robot to fight forest fires, making forestry management (林业管理) smarter and safer.
1 It is made for difficult forest places and can work well on steep slopes (斜坡). People can control it from 150 meters away. 2 It is very useful for making firebreaks, clearing roads for firefighters, and knocking down burning trees.
It can work for eight hours without stopping. 3 It was slow and dangerous. Now the robot does the hard work. Its efficiency (效率) is three times higher, and workers no longer need to work near fires.
Hubei will use more robots and train workers to use them well. The robot can also help with other forest work all year round. 4
Besides robots, Hubei uses many smart ways to protect forests. The Wuhan Donghu High-Tech Zone has 128 drone (无人机) stations to watch forests closely. The province also uses satellites (人造卫星), cameras and AI to find fires early. 5 Special workers will check these AI warnings carefully to make sure forests are safe and well-protected.
With these modern technologies, Hubei is building a much better system to watch forests and stop fires before they break out.
A.Technologies are being used in different places in China.
B.The AI can correctly find about 85 percent of fire risks.
C.The strong robot can cut small trees and dig soil quickly.
D.The robot started working in Jingshan City last November.

Wordle, an online game, has remained popular since it came out. Players have six tries daily to guess a five-letter word. 6
Quordle is a harder word game. It was made by a developer Freddie Meyer from England for players who want more challenges. 7 Now, thousands of word game fans try Quordle every day to test their skills.
After discussing Wordle’s success with his daughter, London-based data scientist Richard Mann created Nerdle for maths lovers. 8 Does it sound familiar Right. Teachers say that Nerdle, like Wordle, also requires players to use logic.
Worldle should not be confused with Wordle. 9 French developer Antoine Teuf designed Worldle. Players have six tries daily to name a country. Its page can sometimes receive two million daily visits.
10 It was created by a developer Glenn Angelo from Sweden for music lovers. Players have six tries to guess the name of a song. Now, millions of music fans play it every day to test how well they know popular music.

For hundreds of years, scientists have been trying to answer what things have an effect on people’s emotions (情感). How you feel is controlled by many things. Your emotions can be affected by your nature, by the actions of others and by events around you. 11
People often say they feel good when the sun is shining and sad when it is cloudy. 12 When sunlight hits our skin, our bodies produce a vitamin. Vitamins are natural chemicals (化学物质) which we all need to stay healthy. Sunlight helps our bodies produce vitamin D.
Vitamin D helps our bodies make a special chemical. 13 For example, there are long, dark winters of little sunlight in Sweden and Norway, so many people in these countries often feel sad. Without much sunlight, their bodies produce less vitamin D.
Without enough vitamin D, their bodies make less of this special chemical which makes them feel good. To help the people in these countries feel better, special “sunrooms” with artificial (人造的) lights have been built. People can go there and get “sunlight” for an hour or two!
14 Hot weather can make people angry because people feel uncomfortable when they are hot. In the same way, rain can make people angry because being wet can be unpleasant. As you can see, the weather can have an effect on the chemicals which control our brains. 15 Sadly, while the weather can change us, we can hardly change the weather.

The Truth Behind Lying
Most children learn honesty from fairy tales and other stories. Pinocchio (匹诺曹), a famous puppet, must tell the truth, or his nose grows longer. In the US, kids learn six-year-old George Washington bravely admitted cutting the cherry tree, winning his father’s praise. These stories tell children “honesty is the best policy”. 26
One reason people lie is to hide mistakes. It is true that everyone does something wrong from time to time. 27 For example, students may lie about unfinished homework, saying it’s left at home, just to avoid trouble and save face.
Another reason people lie is to get away from situations they don’t want or can’t deal with. For example, if a company has a weekend meeting, a manager may not want to go. She may call her boss and give an excuse. 28 People often do this when they don’t want to tell the truth and face the results.
However, people sometimes might tell a “white lie”. For example, if your good friend has an ugly haircut, you can say it’s special instead of “It looks terrible”. 29
People lie for many good and bad reasons. 30 But lying to avoid trouble may bring more trouble in the end. If we know why people want to lie, we may lie less.
A.People lie to avoid difficulties.
B.But people still lie for many reasons.
C.Lying to keep the peace can have positive results.
D.These lies are not bad and help keep good relationships.
E.However, people don’t have the courage to say they are wrong.
F.Lying can sometimes make people feel better about themselves.

As kids, going to the library means introducing us to books and the joy of reading. We can read books right there or get a membership card and bring books home. 31 Each story unlocks a world of endless possibilities, inviting young minds to explore. As we discover new characters and adventures, we build curious minds easily.
Libraries offer children quiet spaces for learning. They separate children from the outside busy world. 32 This makes libraries great places for increasing our knowledge and growing our minds, helping us become lifelong learners.
As we lose ourselves in stories, our minds actively deal with information, developing critical thinking (批判性思维) and problem-solving skills. These qualities prepare us to face challenges and make wise decisions. 33
When shared with others, books become a tool for communication and closeness. Moreover, joining book clubs or library events provides opportunities to discuss with others, developing teamwork and cooperation. We can build meaningful connections with others in the process. 34 This reward (回报) will enrich our lives with lasting joy.
35 The act of borrowing books and returning them on time develops a habit of taking care of borrowed items (物品). We can become more careful with others’ belongings. The positive influence goes beyond the libraries, as we can learn the importance of respecting shared spaces and the needs of others in society.
A.Visiting libraries also encourages a sense of responsibility.
B.For children, books are gateways to magic.
C.We are likely to succeed in studies and life.
D.Make sure your local library is your top choice.
E.Such relationships often grow quietly but deeply.
