From Hate to Love
George was a seventh-grader who hated music class more than anything. Every time the bell rang, he’d walk slowly to the music room, put his textbook down hard on the desk, and look angrily at Mr. Harris, the music teacher. He found scales and singing not interesting at all, and Mr. Harris often told him to “sit up straight” or “sing the right note” made him very angry. “Music is just noise for losers!” he complained (抱怨) to his deskmate after class, squeezing (捏) his music sheet into a ball.
One Friday, George stayed late to fix his broken bike near the school hall. Suddenly, a loud, strong guitar sound cut through the air. Curiosity won him over—he looked through the door and stopped moving. There was Mr. Harris on stage, hair a little messy, playing a red guitar and singing rock songs. His fingers moved quickly on the strings, and his voice was loud and full of strong feelings. Bright lights flashed, and even the stage seemed to shine. George forgot to breathe; he had never seen anyone so cool.
After the show, George was unsure, then walked up. “That was…amazing,” he said quietly. Mr. Harris smiled widely and gave him the guitar. George’s fingers moved wrong at first, but Mr. Harris helped him softly. In 10 minutes, he played a simple rock song. From that day, George hurried to music class. He and Mr. Harris practiced every afternoon, talking about bands and their hopes. The anger turned into friendship.
Years later, George stood on a big stage with his own guitar. The crowd cheered loudly. He saw Mr. Harris in the front row, waving. George spoke into the mic: “________”Task 1: Answer the questions. (回答问题)

First, enjoy the simple things in life. Don’t always think about the future, like getting into college or finding a good job. We should try to enjoy small pleasures: having lunch with close friends, listening to your favorite songs, or reading an interesting book.
Second, stay active and develop hobbies. You can collect things you like, go fishing, or play sports. 这些活动可以帮助你放松和忘记问题。

Last Saturday, my six-year-old daughter Lily and I walked along the Xiangjiang River. She noticed a group in red waistcoats and was curious. I asked her to find out the answer herself. Lily interviewed Wang Yongheng, a farmer in his 50s. He explained that they patrol the river to prevent people from drowning.
Years ago, his five-year-old son lost his swimming ring in a pool and went underwater. Wang didn’t hear him cry for help. Luckily, a girl saw the danger and jumped into the water to save him. Others quickly joined, and his son was pulled out in less than two minutes. “Without those kind people, I might have lost my son,” Wang said.
To pass on the kindness, Wang volunteered to join the river patrol team in 2012. The team is always ready to help. Over the past ten years, they have saved hundreds of lives. “Every life means a lot to a family. By saving a life, we save a family,” Wang said.

“I’m not a top student. I just spend the time that others use for fun studying,” said Pang Zhongwang, a 17-year-old boy who took the Gaokao in 2017 from a small village in Hebei, China. Born in a very poor family——his mother can’t walk, and his father has bad mental health problems, Pang never complains (抱怨) about life. In 2024, Pang was interviewed on CCTV and he told the reporters that he would try his best to serve our country through science and technology. Firstly, Pang has great living habits. Every morning, Pang wakes up early. He cooks meals, tidies up the house, and looks after his mother before rushing to school. After school, he quickly finishes his homework and helps around the house.
Pang’s love for learning can also explain part of his success. His true love for studying makes him forget about how difficult his life is. He focuses on working out all the difficult problems in every subject. In 2017, he took part in Gaokao and got an amazing score of 684 points. Later, he got into Tsinghua University in Beijing.
Pang’s story teaches us a useful lesson. Although life is hard, he faces and solves all the problems with a positive (积极的) mind. This is another reason for his success. He often says, “My family is not a burden (负担). Instead, they give me power and energy to work harder.”

Recently, an audio book named The Secrets of the Wild became very popular among teenagers. It tells stories about how wild animals communicate. Unlike traditional lectures, this audio book uses 3D sound effects. Listeners can hear a wolf howling in the west or a bird singing in the east.
The creator, Dr. Smith, said he wanted to satisfy young people’s curiosity about nature. “When I was a child, I used to sit quietly by the pond. I watched how a swan accompanied her babies. Those soft moments gave me great warmth. I hope this book can bring that experience to everyone,” he said.
The book also covers serious topics. It explains how pollutants kill marine life and how cutting down forests leads to unbalanced ecosystems. Dr. Smith suggests that we should treat animals gently. “If we lose our habitats, we fall ill just like animals,” he warns.

The giant (巨大的) panda is one of the most beloved animals in the world. It is also a national treasure of China. For many years, people have worked hard to protect this black and white bear from disappearing.
Giant pandas live mainly in the bamboo forests of the mountains in central China, ① ______ in Sichuan, Shaanxi, and Gansu provinces. They spend about 12 to 16 hours a day eating bamboo. In the 1980s, wild pandas were very endangered. Only about 1,000 of them lived in the wild. People cut down forests and farmed land, so pandas lost their homes. Also, pandas can hardly have babies. Female pandas can get pregnant (怀孕的) only a few days every year.
Thanks to great efforts by the Chinese government and many international organizations, the situation has improved. More than 60 nature reserves have been created to protect panda habitats. Scientists have also learned much more about panda breeding, which has helped increase the number of pandas born in captivity. In 2016, the giant panda’s status was changed from “endangered” to “vulnerable,” which is a huge success story for wildlife conservation.
Today, there are over 1,800 giant pandas living in the wild. Protecting the panda also helps protect the entire forest ecosystem where they live, which benefits many other animals and plants. The panda is not just a cute face; it is a symbol of hope for conservation around the world.

Recently, a video of a monkey using a tool has become very popular online. The video was taken in a forest in Indonesia. It shows a long-tailed macaque (猕猴) picking up a large stone and using it to smash open a kind of nut that is very hard to crack. This behavior is surprising because using a stone as a hammer was once thought to be something only humans and a few of our closest relatives, like chimpanzees, could do.
Scientists call this the “nut-cracking” behavior. They watched the monkey for several days. They noticed that the monkey didn’t just use any stone. It carefully chose a stone that was the right size and weight for the job. It would place the nut on a flat rock (an “anvil”) and then hit it with the stone hammer. The monkey was very skillful and successful in getting the nut out.
This discovery is important because it shows that the ability to use tools might be more common in the animal kingdom than we thought. This particular group of monkeys has no connection to humans or chimpanzees. This means that this intelligent behavior likely developed on its own, which is called “convergent evolution”. The scientists published their discovery in a biology journal, hoping it will lead to more studies on animal intelligence in the wild.

81.What did the monkey use the stone as (不超过2个词)
82.Who was once thought to be the main animal to use stone tools (不超过3个词)
