Travel with Textbooks: A New Global Trend
A unique travel trend called keben jieli, or “textbook relay,” has taken social media by storm. Here’s what you need to know about this creative activity.
What It Is
Chinese tourists are hiding their old high school textbooks at famous landmarks around the world for others to find. The idea is simple: bring a textbook that features a landmark on its cover, visit the real place, and leave the book there. A pen is often included so that finders may record their feelings and desires.
How It Started
The trend began in November 2025, when Chinese travelers to Egypt started posting photos of their junior high school history textbook cover at the Pyramids and the Sphinx.
Where It Has Spread
●UK (March 2026): Chinese students hid English textbooks near Big Ben. One visitor found seven textbooks hidden around the area, including under lamp posts and behind a telephone booth. Heartfelt notes were left inside, with wishes for family health and “world peace.”
●Italy: A history textbook was hidden near the Colosseum ticket office.
●France: An English textbook featuring the Louvre Museum was placed in the bushes across from the museum. The participant said seeing the image “come to life” felt like her education had come full circle.
Who Supports It
The trend has gained support from social media platforms and even Chinese embassies. In London, a Chinese restaurant near Big Ben offered free drinks to participants, while a hotpot restaurant sent its panda mascot to pose with the books. Within China, state media and travel agencies have also launched textbook-themed travel routes.

A. The idea of textbook relay is far from novel.
B. An English textbook was placed in the bushes facing the Louvre Museum.
C. Traveling with textbooks is a trend originating in the UK in March 2026.
D. The trend of traveling is well received all over the world.
23. Where is this text most probably taken from
A. A travel diary. B. A textbook.
C. A news website. D. A museum guide.
B
Footwork is believed to decide a boxing match, and this old saying has gained a fresh inspiring meaning in Ukraine recently.
A unique boxing match was held in Brovary, a city near Kyiv, which is the world’s first official competition between two war veterans who both lost their legs. Equipped with artificial limbs, the two athletes stepped into the ring, showing remarkable calmness and firm determination.
Lasting three rounds, the match ran at a much slower pace than conventional boxing games. Instead of moving around frequently, the boxers walked cautiously and tried hard to keep balance on their prosthetic legs. Still, they performed basic attacking and defensive skills skillfully.
Earlier that day, an air attack alert once forced all audiences to leave the arena temporarily. After the danger passed, people returned and witnessed an extraordinary scene. They cheered loudly not for wonderful boxing moves, but for the great courage the two fighters displayed whenever they fell and struggled to stand up.
Artem Khrebet lost both legs in a military attack in 2022. He insisted that injured war veterans hoped to win respect and chances rather than sympathy. His opponent Mykhailo Drobotenko, once a member of special forces, lost his legs after stepping on a mine. He intended to challenge himself and set a positive example for other injured soldiers.
Training was extremely tough for them. Yet they found boxing a good way to ease mental pressure and regain a sense of purpose. It helped them regain confidence and rebuild their lives.
Khrebet finally won the match. Though defeated, Drobotenko refused to feel discouraged and looked forward to a new contest. As the two veterans proved, physical disability can never stop people from being mentally strong and living a meaningful life.
24. What is special about the boxing match held in Brovary
A. It was the first international match held in Kyiv.
B. The boxers only focus on basic defensive skills.
C. It had more rounds than ordinary boxing games.
D. It was between two disabled war veterans with no legs.

B. They were touched by their never-give-up spirit.
C. They celebrated the end of the air attack.
C. They expected the boxers to set an example for soldiers.
26. What's true about the two veterans
A. They both lost their legs in a military attack in 2022.
B. Boxing training offered them nothing but physical strength.
C. They considered their training to be easy and undemanding.
D. They expected respect instead of mere pity.
27. Which saying can best summarize the text
A. No pain, no gain.
B. Never judge a book by its cover.
C. Tough times never last, but tough people do.
D. Rome was not built in a day.
C
Many young people now identify themselves as “old-school humans”, embracing a lifestyle intentionally distanced from mainstream trends. They skip the latest bubble tea craze in favor of thermoses(保温杯) filled with herbal tea. They prioritize warmth and comfort over glamorous outfits, caring more about whether their thermal underwear is cozy than whether they’re fashionable.
So, what defines an “old-school human” At its core, the concept stands in deliberate contrast to what is considered “trendy”. While trend-chasers continuously pursue novelty, sensory stimulation, and rapid change, the old-school mindset values practicality, durability, and a deeper, more enduring sense of comfort.
In traditional discourse, “old-fashioned” has often meant outdated, obsolete, and unable to keep up with the times. Old-fashioned behaviors or living styles are easily labeled as “behind the times” or “boring”, while young people are usually associated with novelty, trendiness, and sophistication. In theory, they are expected to chase what is most “of the moment”—queuing for hyped restaurants—to prove through endless motion that they have not fallen behind. Yet today, many of these young people newly diagnosed as “old-fashioned humans” are falling for those like neighborhood wet markets, community canteens. They seem to be seeking comfort in ordinary life, no longer separating themselves from images of older generations or rural traditions.
This emotional shift is no coincidence, as the exhaustion from a high-speed way of life is reaching a breaking point among the young. Every day we’re burdened with endless algorithmic recommendations, and filter-polished “perfect lives”, generating a lingering anxiety. Old-fashioned ways of living, by contrast, offer emotional relief. A slower pace has become a tool for young people to resist relentless competition. Visiting wet markets to enjoy a city’s daily warmth and bustle or rewatching old TV dramas to find comfort in familiar storylines allow young people to reclaim control over their time.
Finding one’s own slow lane in a fast-moving world is a clear-eyed stance on life. Life moves at its own pace, and in time, answers reveal themselves.
Why does the author mention “thermoses” and “thermal underwear” in Para. 1
To illustrate the features of “old-school humans”.
To highlight the differences between two lifestyles.
C. To criticize young people’s taste.
D. To prove young people now value comfort more than fashion.
29. What is implied about the “old-school humans” lifestyle according to the text
A. It leads to extreme tiredness from a high-speed lifestyle.
B. It is generally considered out-of-date and boring.
C.It results from a complete loss of interest in new things.
D. It is a deliberate reaction against fast-paced consumerism.
30. What does the underlined word “relentless” in Paragraph 4 probably mean
A. Unfair. B. Constant. C. Hidden. D. Healthy.
31. What can be a suitable title for the text
A. Old-school is the new cool.
B. The history of “old-school humans”.
C. Comfort is king.
D. The conflict between youth and modern trends.
D
Serious bone breaks or bone tumor removals usually demand artificial parts to help recovery. Traditional methods, however, bring considerable weaknesses. Autografts (自体移植) require a second surgery, increasing patients’ pain and raising health risks while metal implants are far harder than natural bone and tend to loosen over time, making them less reliable for long-term use. These pressing issues have driven researchers to explore more adaptive and safer choices for clinical bone repair.
Researchers at ETH Zurich have developed a creative hydrogel(水凝胶) implant that may change the future of bone treatment. Led by Professor XiaoHua Qin and Professor Ralph Müller, the research team created the soft, jellylike material to closely imitate the body’s natural bonehealing system. This design allows the implant to work better with the human body, reducing possible discomfort. Their leading study, which shows great promise for bone repair, was published in the top materials science journal Advanced Materials.
The novel hydrogel consists of 97% water and 3% bio-safe polymer, making it soft and gentle on the body. Two specially developed molecules are added to control its shaping process: one binds polymer chains together, and the other is lightsensitive to laser radiation. With highprecision laser printing technology, the material can be formed into complex bone-matching structures at an extraordinarily fast rate, supporting personalized implant design for different patients.
Yet the breakthrough still faces unsolved limits in current research. All performance tests have been restricted to lab settings. Whether the material can maintain stable functions and adapt to complex internal biological environments remains to be tested, as several unpredictable biological factors may influence its practical medical value.
Despite the existing limitations, the invention carries significant prospect for longterm medical development. Lab results confirm that bone-forming cells grow favorably on the hydrogel, proving its good tissue compatibility(兼容性). The team is planning further in-depth experiments and industry cooperation, aiming to turn laboratory achievements into clinically available solutions for patients in the future.
32. How does the author lead in the topic in Paragraph 1
A. By clarifying a medical term.

D. By analyzing reasons for tumor diseases.
33. What contributes most to the formation of customized bone-like structures
A. The imitation of bodies’ natural bone healing system.
B. The high percentage of water.
C. The application of laser printing technology.
D. The specially developed molecules .
34. What can be inferred about the hydrogel from Paragraph 4
A. Its application needs further systematic tests.
B. Its stability has been confirmed in living organisms.
C. Its medical value has been influenced.
D. It can deal with all limits in current research.
35. What is the author’s attitude toward the future of the hydrogel
A. Critical. B. Confused. C. Optimistic. D. Indifferent.

Rethink Packaging: Small Choices, Big Green Impacts
Packaging surrounds almost everything we buy, from food and clothes to electronics and gifts. While it protects products during transport and storage, it also creates massive waste that harms ecosystems and pollutes oceans. 36 By making smarter packaging choices, we can cut waste, save resources, and protect the planet without sacrificing convenience.
One of the simplest ways to green your packaging habits is to prioritize reusable materials. 37 Cloth bags, glass jars, and metal tins can replace single-use plastic bags, food containers, and wrapping paper. Unlike disposable options, these reusable items can serve you for years, drastically reducing the amount of trash sent to landfills each year.
38 This means choosing products with minimal or no extra layers of wrapping. For example, buy loose fruits and vegetables instead of pre-packaged ones, or select items wrapped in recycled paper rather than plastic film. Every layer of unnecessary packaging adds to waste, so cutting excess material is a direct way to lower your environmental footprint.
Another effective strategy is to opt for recyclable or compostable(可分解的) packaging when reusable options aren’t postable materials like plant-based plastics break down naturally in soil, while recyclable paper and cardboard can be turned into new products. 39 Some materials may seem recyclable but aren’t accepted in your area.
In the end, sustainable packaging isn’t just about individual actions; it’s a shared responsibility between consumers, businesses, and governments. Small daily choices add up, and when millions of people choose eco-friendly packaging, the collective impact becomes huge. 40
It also saves energy and reduces gas emissions .
However, always check local recycling rules first.
Cutting down on overpackaging is another vital step .
The key is to avoid single-use plastics into landfills or waterways.
From reusing to recycling, small changes can make a real difference.
Many people overlook the green cost of packaging in their daily shopping.
Plastic packaging, particularly, takes centuries to decompose and harms wildlife.

As summer vacation approached and the heavy burden of final exams finally lifted, our school initiated a volunteer teaching program for children in remote mountain villages. While every student was welcome to sign up, I hesitated, caught in a fierce internal conflict.
Tired from months of busy study, I had long looked forward to a leisurely holiday. I hoped to accompany my family, spend pleasant time with friends and live a casual life without endless study pressure. I simply desired a quiet and comfortable break for myself.
Yet deep inside my heart, another thought haunted me constantly. I was thirsty for meaningful experiences and hoped to pass on knowledge and care to innocent left-behind children in mountainous areas. I yearned to live a different and fulfilling summer vacation.
For several days, I hesitated constantly and could hardly focus on daily life. The registration deadline was getting closer day by day, but I still could not make a final decision. One quiet evening, I accidentally read a touching article about young volunteers who devoted their whole summer to rural teaching. It described their daily work with the children, the warm moments they shared together, and the bright smiles on the kids’ faces when they learned new things. The simple and sincere stories in the article touched my heart deeply and made me eagerly anticipate the special experience.
My mind began to clear up little by little. I was no longer trapped in endless hesitation, and the wish to join the program became stronger and stronger. I gradually let go of my thought of spending the holiday only for my own relaxation, and became eager to meet those lovely children in these villages. Without any more doubt, I picked up my pen, filled in the registration form carefully, and made up my firm decision to take part in the teaching program. I could hardly wait to embark on this unusual summer journey with a peaceful and excited heart.

第一节范文:
Dear classmates,
Recently, a group discussion themed Al coming to campus has been held in our class. I’m more than delighted to report our teamwork result.
It is widely acknowledged that AI has brought remarkable convenience to our study and campus life. With AI tools available, we can access relevant information and settle academic problems instantly, which helps save plenty of time and energy. Besides, AI is able to classify key knowledge, allowing us to study with higher efficiency.
In my opinion, we should avoid over-relying on AI, and use it as a tool instead of a substitute for our own efforts. Thank you.
第二节范文:
Paragraph 1: The summer vacation finally arrived, I packed my bags and set off for the quiet countryside. Upon arrival, I was greeted by children with bright curious eyes and shy innocent smiles. In class, I patiently explained knowledge points, guided them to read aloud and encouraged them to express themselves freely. Gradually, the kids grew more confident, raising their hands actively, sharing interesting thoughts and asking questions bravely. Watching them grasp new knowledge little by little, their faces lit up with pure joy, I was deeply touched and overwhelmed with a strong sense of happiness and fulfillment.
Paragraph 2: As vacation drew to an end, I had to say goodbye. Kids crowded around me, presenting delicate handmade gifts and waving gently with misty eyes. Even some of them shared their secret dream with me that they would become a volunteer teacher like me someday, which really made me proud and fulfilled. Tears welling up in my eyes, countless precious and heart-warming memories crossed my mind. I realized that it was the volunteers’ love and dedication that ignited the children’s dreams and paved the way for their future growth. Never had I realized that genuine happiness consists in selfless devotion instead of material comfort.
