Qi Tao, a young man from Yunnan, made history on June 30, 2025.He set a Guinness World Record by juggling(玩杂耍) a football 12,086times with one foot in just one hour!
Qi’s love for sports grew from struggles (奋斗). When he was eight, doctors found out that he had a heart condition. He had to go through two surgeries(外科手术), which kept him from sports.
During his primary and middle school years, he missed out on many sports activities. But he wanted to play sports and live life to the fullest. Luckily, he found a way forward.
During high school, Qi decided he wanted to take control of his health. He secretly started to run and train, even when others worried about his physical condition. He had a dream to play football, but when he joined the school team, some people doubted him. With no coach to guide him, he taught himself how to juggle the ball and practiced on his own time.
In July 2023, Qi saw a video of a boy setting a record for juggling with both feet. It inspired him to start on his journey to a world record. He figured out that if he juggled 2.26 times each second, he could break the record. Although he failed as he was not fast enough to change feet between ball touches, he didn’t lose heart. Instead, he realized that juggling with one foot might be another possible challenge to try. He practiced very hard and finally reached his goal. Last June, Guinness World Records confirmed that he set a new world record. He was over the moon!
Now, Qi Tao is studying sports at Yunnan Technology and Business University and hopes to become a professional coach. He believes that anyone can succeed in life if they take the first step and keep going.
