When my grandma retired(退休) five years ago, she made a big decision: she would learn to paint oil paintings. All of her children and grandchildren felt surprised. "You are already 60. Why do you learn painting now " my cousin asked. "It must be too hard for you." But grandma just held her new brush and said, "Age is never a problem as long as I have a positive attitude(态度)."
At the beginning, everything was difficult for her. Her hands always shook when she held the brush, and she wasted more than ten pieces of canvas in the first month. I went to her room to see her practice one day, and I found all her fingers were covered with paint. I asked her if she wanted to give up. She pointed to the half-finished painting of our garden and said, "Every mistake teaches me how to do better next time."
Grandma kept practicing for two hours every day. A year later, our community held a painting competition for people over 55. Grandma took part with her garden painting and won the third prize. When we cheered for her, she told me that nothing is impossible as long as you stick to it with the right attitude.

Have you ever thought that middle school students could influence national policies In China, more and more teenagers are making their voices heard through "Model Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference" activities.
In 2026, two proposals(提案)written by students from Xi'an Gaoxin No.1 High School were brought to the Two Sessions(两会)in Beijing by national political advisors. One proposal focused on deep reading difficulties among teenagers in the digital age. The other explored ways to protect local dialects as part of China's cultural heritage(遗产).
How did these students develop such meaningful proposals First, they found problems in their daily lives. Then, they made surveys and interviews, collected data(数据), and studied information. For the dialect proposal, students interviewed older people in their communities and studied how dialects are disappearing. They even asked language experts for advice.
“Model CPPCC activities allow students to step out of schools and into society. They help us better understand our country,” said one student. The two proposals were praised by national political advisors for their strong research and practical suggestions.
This activity connects Chinese language arts, social studies, and even math—students used the numbers of their research to support their arguments. It also develops careful thinking and problem-solving skills.
“Every year for the past 11 years, our school has had student proposals taken to the Two Sessions,” a teacher from Xi'an Gaoxin No.1 High School shared proudly. With the support of their schools and society, more teenagers are learning that they are not too young to make a difference.

Have you ever imagined turning on room lights or talking to others just by thinking, without moving your body or opening your mouth With the development of brain-computer interface(接口), or BCI, this amazing idea from science fiction is slowly becoming reality.
BCI is a new technology that directly connects our brain with external(外部的)computers. It works by collecting weak electrical signals that our brain produces when we think. Then it translates these signals into clear commands(指令)that machines can understand. In this way, our thoughts can control devices or help us send messages to others without any movement or speech.
The most valuable use of BCI is to help people with disabilities. For example, some people are paralyzed (瘫痪的) because of accidents or serious illnesses, and they completely lose the ability to speak or move. They used to have great difficulty connecting with the world around them. BCI gives them a new way to realize communication. They can share their ideas with family and even control their wheelchairs to move around just by thinking. Recently, scientists helped a paralyzed man "speak" with BCI; it turned his brain signals into text on a screen in seconds. It was a big breakthrough for the medical treatment of this group of people. ___▲_____
Today, BCI is still developing fast. Scientists believe that in the near future, this technology may enter our daily life. Ordinary(普通的)people may use it to control smart homes or play games more easily. When we can do many things with our thoughts, "your thoughts come true" will not just be a warm wish anymore.
61. How does BCI work according to the text
A. It reads people's emotions through cameras.
B. It uses voice commands to control machines.
C. It connects the body directly to the Internet
D. It collects brain signals and turns them into machine commands.
62. Why does the writer mention the paralyzed man in Paragraph 3
A. To show that BCI can help disabled people communicate.
B. To explain how BCI can cure serious illnesses and accidents.
C. To prove that scientists are better at speaking than disabled people.
D. To tell us that turning brain signals into text is an easy job.
63. Which of the following can be put in the “__▲_ ” in Paragraph 3
A. This technology is already perfect for everyone.
B. However, BCI only helps people with serious injuries.
C. Doctors are still unsure if BCI is safe for long-term use.
D. Beyond helping the disabled, BCI may also change everyday life for ordinary people.
64. Which of the following picture matches the description in Paragraph 4
65. Which is the best title for the text
A. The Development of External Computers
B. Mind-Controlled Technology Brings Challenges
C. Brain-Computer Interface: Making Thoughts Come True
D. External Computers: Connecting Humans with Machines
