M: Excuse me. May I sit next to you
W: I’m sorry, but I’m saving this seat for my friend. There is another seat behind us.
M: OK. I will just sit there.
(Text 2)
W: Here’s a 100-dollar bill. Give me two tickets for tonight’s show, please.
M: Sure. Two tickets and here’s $ 20 for change.
(Text 3)
W: Here’s this week’s schedule, Mr. Cutler. On Monday, there is the board meeting. Your speech
to the Lion’s Club is on Tuesday afternoon. Then on Wednesday, you have an appointment with
your lawyer and…
M: Wait, you mean the business conference on Tuesday is canceled
W: Yes.
(Text 4)
M: You are too late. I am sorry but you can’t take the exam now.
W: I am sorry, but my mother was ill in bed this morning and I had to look after her.
M: Be honest! Your mother was talking with the headmaster in his office when I passed by.
(Text 5)
M: If you’d like to take the package with you, Miss, it won’t take long to wrap.
W: There’s no rush. Could you please have it delivered this week
M: Of course, Miss. Tell me the address, please.
(Text 6)
W: Mike, there is something wrong with my laptop. I really need to use it this afternoon. I don’t
know what to do now.
M: Why not call Jim He is good at computers. I’m sure he can solve the problem. But I do think
you need a new one. You got it almost four years ago.
W: Well, I can’t afford a new one now. Maybe I’ll get a new one after I graduate. But now I’m
afraid I have no choice but to use this one.
M: Then call Jim now.
W: OK.
(Text 7)
M: Who do you work for at the moment
W: Um, I work for the BBC World Service. I’ve been with the BBC for five years. Before that, I
worked as an interpreter for the EU.
M: As you know, this job is based in Geneva. Have you ever lived abroad before
W: Oh, yes, I have. In fact, I was born in Argentina and I lived there until I was eleven.
M: That’s interesting. Have you traveled much
W: Oh, yes. I’ve been to all over Europe and many parts of South America.
M: Why did you go to these places
W: Well, mostly for pleasure, but three years ago I went back to Argentina to cover various
political stories in Buenos Aires for the BBC.
(Text 8)
M: Good morning. Since so many of you have asked me about how to learn a language, I thought
it might be useful to take some class time today to discuss it. Betty, you speak several foreign
languages, don’t you
W: Yes, I speak Spanish and French.
M: And can you tell me what helped you most in learning these languages
W: What helped me most… Well, I studied both languages in high school, and I’m still studying
Spanish here at the university, but I think that travel has probably been the most helpful to me.
M: Yes. When you live in a country where the language is spoken, it’s perfect.
W: That’s true. But whether or not I’m living in a country where the language is spoken, I also
watch TV or listen to the radio in the language I’m trying to learn.
M: That’s good.
(Text 9)
M: How are we getting to Georgia Have you decided yet
W: What about taking a flight We can get there in just a few hours.
M: But I’m afraid of flying. And it’s kind of expensive, isn’t it Besides, we’ll miss the beautiful
scenery.
W: You are right. Then forget about airports.
M: What about going there by car We can rent a car.
W: But I don’t have a driver’s license. And you’ll get too tired if you drive all the way. You know
it’s dangerous to drive when you’re tired.
M: Then what about taking a train or a bus
W: It’s uncomfortable on the bus.
M: But it’s so cheap. And we’ll get to see the countryside along the way.
W: Yes, it’s cheap, but it will be full of other passengers trying to save money.
M: Hmm. I guess it would be interesting. We’d get to meet a lot of people. And we’d get to see the
scenery!
W: Scenery We’d just be seeing a bunch of city bus stations. We’d have to switch buses in every
city. It’ll take forever!
M: Well, all right, then. I guess there is just one option left.
(Text 10)
W: I woke up this morning feeling a little worried. I was going to take part in the 200-meter race
in our school’s swimming pool.
First, the headmaster gave a speech at 8 o’clock. He encouraged us all to do well. Five teams
took part in each event. At 8:30, the 100-meter freestyle began. Unfortunately, one of our
swimmers had a sudden pain in her left leg during the race. She stopped swimming and shouted
for help. A teacher jumped into the pool and brought her back. Luckily, she was fine. At about
9:10, it was time for my event, the 200-meter freestyle. I walked to the edge of the pool and
waited for the judge to fire his gun. I heard him say, “On your marks… Get set… Go!” and we
jumped in. However, a swimmer dived into the pool too early. We had to start again. I was in the
lead for the first 150 meters, but another swimmer swam past me later. I won a medal for second
place. I was a little disappointed. My team came in second overall, with 47 points. The team which
won had a total of 53 points.I’m tired out now. It’s been a long day and I’m about to go to sleep.高一期中考试英语参考答案

【答案】Good morning, everyone,
Today, I’d like to share with you my holiday English assignment. The task included keeping
an English diary every day, reading one English short passage aloud each morning, and learning
15 new words daily. I also watched two English movies and wrote a short review for each.
This homework brought me a lot. It not only helped me build a regular learning habit but also
greatly improved my vocabulary and reading ability. More importantly, I became much braver to
speak English, which made me truly feel the fun of learning it. It was a meaningful and valuable
experience.
Thank you!
David spent hours interviewing Jason, asking why he did so. Jason rubbed his rough hands
and sighed softly, “That money wasn’t mine. What if it was the last hope for another family
Linda wouldn’t want me to take it, either.” His voice trembled as he glanced at his wife, whose
eyes were now slightly open, tears sliding down her pale cheeks. David nodded repeatedly, his
notebook filled with words that reflected a man’s unwavering integrity. Before leaving, he took a
photo of Jason, firmly patting him on the shoulder. “I will publish your story in the newspaper. It
will touch many hearts.”
The next day, many readers were moved and lent a helping hand. The newspaper’s front page
featured Jason’s photo with the headline “A Heart of Gold in the Rain.” By noon, the hospital’s
donation box was overflowing with envelopes. A local charity called, offering to cover half the
surgery cost. Even Dr. Michael Chen, the intended recipient of the backpack, visited Linda’s
ward, saying, “I will call on medical staff to donate money for your wife as well.” A week later,
with the raised funds, Linda’s operation went smoothly. As Jason held her hand in the recovery
room, he knew that doing the right thing had brought them their own miracle.沙市第七中学 2026年春季学期高一年级期中考试

Looking for a comfortable place to stay These are Britain’s best country inns (旅馆) for you
to choose from.
Ship Inn, Fife
The picturesque stretch of coastline along the East Neuk of Fife is home to this friendly
waterside inn, whose cheerful bar and six wooden bedrooms have a fresh coast feel. By day you
can explore the attractive fishing villages that line the coast; and by night sink into an armchair in
the Ship Inn’s bar.
The Star, Yorksbire
For a pleasant winter break, the only thing better than a country inn is a thatched (茅草屋顶
的) country inn and The Star is a rare and picture-perfect example. The guests can stay in
comfortable rooms designed in country style, with natural stone and wood. The food in the
restaurant is a selection of what is typically served in local pubs. You could even join in a
wrestling match and the pub’s owner is captain of the local wrestling club.
Acorn Inn, Dorset
Acorn in Dorset, this 16th-century coaching inn, is featured in Thomas Hardy’s Tess of the
D’Urbervilles under the name “The Sow and Acorn” and the author would find the inn little
changed today, with its wooden floors and roaring fires. There’s a wood-beamed (木梁) bar with
an excellent restaurant, celebrated for its locally sourced produce.
Lord Crewe Arms, County Durham
If you love the idea of staying at an inn but still want a touch of luxury, book a room at the
Lord Crewe Arms. Set in the honey-stone village of Blanchland in the beautiful landscape of the
North Pennine hills, the inn has a history dating back to 1165. Stone floors and wood beams give
it plenty of warmth and character, the rooms have luxurious beds to sink into, and there’s a highly
regarded restaurant, too.
21. What kind of holiday makers may prefer Ship Inn, Fife
A. Sports lovers. B. Movie fans. C. Novel readers. D. Beach goers.
22. Which inn has kept its style for several hundred years
A. The Star, Yorkshire B. Acorn Inn, Dorset
C. Lord Crewe Arms, County Durham D. Ship Inn, Fife
23. What do the four inns have in common
A. They have a long history. B. They bear grass roofs.
C. Their rooms feature wood. D. They offer the same menu.

I started playing volleyball for two reasons. Primarily, my parents wanted me to try out a
sport that could make me enjoy workouts. I also knew that my mom loved playing it in Venezuela
when she was younger. I thought maybe I could feel the same. Indeed, I fell in love with it after
just a couple of practices.
In between practices, I would stretch (伸出) my arms out, hold my hands together and push
my wrists down to try to build muscle memory of the perfect platform. I would catch the ball,
focusing on forming a triangular (三角形的 ) shape each time, with my right hand guiding the
movement. Each time I’d release the ball upwards, I knew I was one try closer to getting it right. I
worked tirelessly because I wanted to get better. I wanted to be great one day.
However, I lacked the head start most girls had. I started playing years after many other girls
had. I was thrown into the deep end when the club where I practiced placed me on their most
competitive team for my age group mid-season. Most of the girls did not welcome me. While this
competition within and between teams was sometimes productive, it proved to be unhealthy. It
was dangerous when it reached a tipping point. By the end of my freshman year of high school, I’
d reached my breaking point.
Over four years, I only touched a volleyball a couple of times and only in casual settings.
When the opportunity came to play with one of my best friends in a series of friendly matches, I
hesitated. I eventually agreed, making it a point not to be so hard on myself. Volleyball finally
brought the same enjoyment that had made me fall in love with it. I look forward to every
opportunity I have to play now. I expect there will be more volleyball sessions.
24. Why did the author begin to play volleyball
A. She dreamed of becoming a great player. B. She was forced by her mother to play.
C. She wanted to play matches with friends. D. She was encouraged to find joy in exercise.
25. What did the author do to improve her volleyball skills
A. She practiced the correct hand position. B. She stretched her arms for strength.
C. She released the ball higher each time. D. She caught the ball to check her hand shape.
26. What can be inferred about the author’s competitive team experience
A. It improved her skills quickly. B. It taught her to handle teammates.
C. It kept her away from volleyball. D. It proved that hard work pays off.
27. What does the author’s volleyball experience teach us
A. First love is hard to forget. B. Joy returns when you ease up on yourself.
C. Pressure can sometimes break a person. D. A strict coach makes a great player.
C
Birds do it. Bees do it. Even animals without central nervous systems do it. And of course
babies do it — yet less than their exhausted parents would like.
But, despite its universality, sleep remains a mysterious process. Indeed, although sleep
seems to be crucial for physical and mental well-being, scientists are still trying to work out its
biological logic. Research points to a theory, which suggests that the brain needs to “reset”
periodically to keep the mind in good operating order — with exciting hints that sleep’s effect on
the gut (肠道) might also come into play.
Not only is getting enough sleep satisfying in its own right, but it also has a broader effect on
health. Evidence indicates that people who sleep less than six hours per night are more likely to
develop Alzheimer’s disease than people who sleep longer. A theory first proposed more than ten
years ago holds that sleep helps the brain to clear out tau protein, which contributes to this
neurodegenerative (神经退行) condition. But in the past years, a fierce scientific debate has arisen
about the physiological (生理的) details of this connection. The resulting uncertainty has made it
more difficult to take advantage of the relation between sleep and Alzheimer’s to develop
strategies to prevent the happening of this disastrous condition.
Sleep can also help to address a less-severe and more-common health issue than dementia (痴
呆): the desire to lose weight. A leading sleep specialist explains how longer sleep leads to people
consuming fewer calories and losing kilograms. And weight loss lowers the risk of sleep apnoea,
in which a person’s breathing during sleep is interrupted, and, in turn, lessens the chances of
developing type 2 diabetes.
Sleep scientists have no shortage of questions to explore. These include the link between
night-time illumination (照明) and mood disorders, the disappointing finding that napping might
increase the risk of heart disease and the confirmation that early morning university classes
discourage attendance and reduce learning.
28. What is the primary purpose of paragraph 1
A. To highlight the universal nature of sleep.
B. To explain why babies sleep less than adults.
C. To introduce the biological definition of sleep.
D. To compare the sleep habits of different species.
29. Why is it hard to develop Alzheimer’s prevention strategies based on sleep research
A. Proteins harm sleep indirectly. B. Short sleep prevents Alzheimer’s.
C. No debate is over their connection. D. The sleep-Alzheimer’s link is unclear.
30. What can be inferred according to the last paragraph
A. Mood disorders directly lead to heart disease.
B. Early morning classes are effective for weight loss.
C. Some common habits carry unexpected health risks.
D. Night-time illumination is beneficial for mental health.
31. What can be a suitable title for the text
A. Why Babies Need More Sleep B. Where Napping Benefits Our Body
C. What Scientists Learn about Sleep D. How to Prevent Alzheimer’s Disease
D
Why do we cry happy tears Tears are usually seen as a sign of sadness, but people often cry
during joyful moments like weddings, births and reunions. These “happy tears” seem
contradictory, yet they show how the human brain deals with intense emotion.
Crying is a biological response to emotional overload, making no difference between positive
and negative feelings. Strong emotions activate the brain’s feeling-related system. The amygdala
(杏仁体) works as an emotional alarm bell to sense excitement and send signals to the body. It
further activates the hypothalamus(下丘脑), which controls involuntary(无意识的) actions
such as heartbeat and tear production. The anterior cingulate cortex (前扣带脑皮质 ) helps
manage mixed emotions, explaining why great joy can cause reactions connected with sadness.
Scientists regard happy crying as emotional homeostasis. It helps people return to calmness
after extreme excitement. Crying relaxes the body by slowing heart rates and easing tension after
adrenaline (肾上腺素 ) rises. It balances opposite feelings — relief from fear, gratitude after
hardship, and pride from struggle.
In fact, happy tears seldom come from pure joy. They arise from mixed feelings, known as a
double-balance response. When people feel joyful, the brain will recall past memories of loss or
struggle, making them emotional.
Humans are the only animals that cry out of emotion. This ability developed as a silent way
of communication. Happy tears show sincerity, build social bonds, bring empathy and shared
emotional relief. Above all, they prove human emotions are complex, rich and meaningful.
32. What can we learn about crying from paragraph 2
A. The amygdala controls our heart rate and tears.
B. Brain structures produce emotional tears jointly.
C. Happy feelings cannot activate the brain system.
D. Tears only appear when people feel sad and painful.
33. What does the underlined word “homeostasis” most probably mean
A. internal balance. B. sudden excitement. C. psychological control. D. physical weakness.
34. How does emotional crying function in humans
A. It helps strengthen social connections. B. It shows joy rather than mixed feelings.
C. It frees people from negative memories. D. It results from empathy and shared relief.
35. What is the purpose of the whole passage
A. To argue crying builds social bonds. B. To illustrate why joy can cause crying.
C. To compare happy tears and sad tears. D. To describe how the brain controls tears.

How to express hurt feelings
Expressing hurt feelings can be challenging, especially for teenagers. ____36____ Luckily,
there are some simple techniques on how to effectively express your hurt feelings.
____37____ Before you approach someone to tell them that they’ve hurt your feelings,
identify exactly why you feel hurt. It’s important to give a specific reason for your hurt feelings so
that you can express this to the person who hurt you. If you’re unsure about why you feel hurt,
review what happened in your mind or write about it.
Take a few deep breaths and try to relax. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by your emotions,
take a few deep breaths in and out before speaking with the persons. ____38____ You may also
find it hard to communicate what you’re feeling if you are overcome with emotions. If taking deep
breaths doesn’t seem to help, try taking a brisk walk or doing push-ups. This will help to release
endorphins (内啡肽) and clear your head.
Use “I” statements to communicate what you’re feeling. ____39____ Instead, express your
feelings by using “I” rather than “you”. Explain the issue in an objective way. This will be less
likely to put the person on the defensive. For example, you might say, “I felt hurt that I didn’t get
a call to tell me you couldn’t make it yesterday.”
Listen carefully to the other person’s response. After you’ve expressed your hurt feelings,
give the other person a chance to respond. Listen to what they have to say with your full attention.
They might not have realized they hurt you, or they may have a different view on the situation.
____40____
A. Be specific in your description.
B. Think about what you’re feeling and why.
C. Avoid blaming the person for how you feel
D. You can express your feelings in a more reasonable way.
E. Having an open dialogue can lead to a better understanding and resolution
F. However, it’s important to communicate to maintain your emotional well-being.
G. Talking to them when you’re feeling angry, stressed, or tearful can make matters worse

It was a rainy October afternoon in 1990. Jason, a 58-year-old steelworker with rough hands
and deep lines on his forehead, walked slowly from the hospital canteen back to the cancer ward.
His wife, Linda, lay in a very clean white room. Her face, once full of life, was now pale because
of pain. The doctor had given both good and bad news before: an operation to remove part of her
lung could save her, but the $30,000 needed for the surgery looked like a mountain impossible to
climb.
Deep in thought and feeling helpless, Jason walked past the hospital garden. As he did so, his
boot hit something hard. A black backpack was half-hidden under a bush. He looked around —
no one — and bent down to pick it up. When he looked inside, he almost stopped breathing: piles
of hundred-dollar bills. A worn envelope stuck out of a side pocket. It was addressed to “Dr.
Michael Chen, Oncology (肿瘤学) Department.”
For a second, Jason’s fingers tightened on the money. This money could save Linda. But then

you did today.”
