B[2025山东实验中学期中]
Many parents find themselves in a long term struggle with their teenage children, and years may pass as they see no clear winner. The struggle between parents and teenagers is like a border conflict(边界冲突) between neighboring countries, and the key battle is over the same thing: where the line should be between my control and your actions.
Both sides want peace, but neither feels it has any power to stop the conflict. In part, this is because neither is willing to admit any responsibility for starting it. From the parents' point of view, the only cause of their fight is their adolescents' complete unreasonableness. And_of_course,_teens_see_the_situation_in_the_same_way,_but_the_other_way_around. Both feel trapped.
In this article, I'll describe three no win situations that commonly arise between teens and parents and then suggest some ways out of the trap. The first no win situation quarrels over unimportant things. Examples include the colour of the teen's hair, the cleanliness of the bedroom, the preferred style of clothing, the child's failure to eat a good breakfast before school, or his tendency to sleep until noon on the weekends. Second, blaming. The goal of a blaming battle is to make the other admit that his bad attitude is the reason why everything goes wrong. Third, needing to be right. It doesn't matter what the topic is—politics, the laws of physics, or the proper way to break an egg—the point of these arguments is to prove that you are right and the other person is wrong, for both wish to be considered an authority—someone who actually knows something—and therefore to earn respect. Unfortunately, as long as parents and teens continue to assume that they know more than the other, they'll continue to fight these battles forever and never make any real progress. But does it have to be this way
24. In what way is a parent teen war similar to a border conflict
A. Neither has any clear winner.
B. Both can continue for generations.
C. Neither can be put to an end.
D. Both are about where to draw the line.
25. What does the underlined part in paragraph 2 mean
A. Teens agree with their parents.
B. Teens say their parents mislead them.
C. Teens say their parents started the fight.
D. Teens usually understand their parents well.
26. Why do parents and teens want to be right
A. To give orders to the other.
B. To guide the other's behaviour.
C. To get recognition from the other.
D. To prove their knowledge is superior.
27. What will the author most probably discuss in the paragraph that follows
A. Causes of the parent teen conflicts.
B. Solutions to the parent teen problems.
C. Examples of the parent teen war.
D. Future of the parent teen relationship.
C
My daughter, Mia, is 16 and is learning to drive. Many parents are freaked out(惊慌失措) about putting their easily distracted teenagers in charge of a fast moving thing of glass and steel. My wife refused to teach her, leaving the task to me.
I've learned a few things. First, Mia didn't know how to drive at all. She didn't even know where to put the key. It was like watching a chimpanzee try to solve a puzzle. Worse, she couldn't remember that D is for drive, and R means reverse(倒车).
Then came the road rules. Mia liked to sail past stop signs. I had to explain that “STOP means STOP”. Had she actually read the rule book “Yes,” she said, but she forgot most of it. “It was so boring.”
Although I had been driving her around for her whole life, she hadn't learned anything.
Despite these things, I've also learned that I enjoy teaching her. I think I'm pretty good at it. I am much calmer than I thought I would be.
I also enjoy the one to one time we have together. We have some good conversations. So far, we have covered her friends' hairstyles and how stressed she feels after school. I enjoy communicating with her.
One Sunday evening, we were driving down a narrow backstreet, deep in conversation, when I realized that the car was moving quite fast. “SLOW DOWN!” I yelled, yanking(猛拉) the handbrake(手刹). We stopped the car and sat in the dark for a minute. “You can't go that fast,” I said. “You don't know enough yet.” I put my hand on her head, “I don't want anything to happen to you.”
“Me neither,” she said.
“Okay, cool,” I said. “Let's go.”
She started the car and we headed back home.
28. What can we know from the first two paragraphs
A. Mia knew much about driving.
B. Mia was a beginner at driving.
C. Mia never followed her parents' advice.
D. Mia was naturally skillful at driving.
29. The author enjoys teaching Mia mainly because ________.
A. he gets to know more about her
B. it helps him be calmer in daily life
C. it is more hands on teaching
D. he can help plan her future
30. When Mia drove fast, the author felt ________.
A. angry B. impatient
C. disappointed D. concerned
31. The story that the author taught his daughter driving implies that ________.
A. parents should teach their children driving as early as possible
B. parents must accompany their children to do anything
C. parents should value the time they spend with their kids
D. teenagers should be given enough space to develop
D[2025杭州第九中学期中]
Living and dealing with kids can be a tough job these days, but living and dealing with parents can be even tougher.
If I have learned anything in my 16 years, it is that communication is very important, both when you disagree and when you get along. With any relationship, you need to let the other person know how you are feeling. If you are not able to communicate, you drift_apart. When you are mad at your parents, or anyone else, not talking to them doesn't solve anything.
Communication begins with the concerns of another. It means that you can't just come home from school, go up to your room and take no notice of anyone. Even if you just say “Hi”, and see how their day was for five minutes, it is better than nothing.
If you looked up the word “communication” in a dictionary, it would say “the exchange of ideas, the conveyance(表达) of information, correspondence(通信), means of communication: a letter or a message”. To keep a good relationship, you must keep communication strong. Let people know how you feel, even if it's just by writing a note.
When dealing with parents, you always have to make them feel good about how they are doing as a parent. If you are trying to make them see something as you see it, tell them that you'll listen to what they have to say, and ask them politely to listen to you. Shouting or walking away only makes the situation worse.
Here is an example: one night, Sophie went to a street party with her friends. She knew she had to be home by midnight after the fireworks, but she didn't feel she could just ask to go home. That would be rude. After all, they had been nice enough to take her along with them. Needless to say, she was late getting home. Her parents were mad at first, but when Sophie explained why she was late, they weren't as mad and let it munication is the key here. If Sophie's parents had not been willing to listen, Sophie would have been in a lot of trouble.
Communication isn't a one way matter: it goes both ways. Just remember: if you get into a situation like Sophie's, tell the other person how you feel—listening is the key to communication.
32. The underlined phrase “drift apart” in paragraph 2 means “________”.
A. move along smoothly B. distance yourself from others
C. keep up with others D. come closer to each other
33. According to the passage, communication begins with ________.
A. sharing your own feelings openly
B. starting a talk with a written message
C. being aware of others' needs and feelings
D. responding to others' actions immediately
34. The author uses Sophie's example in paragraph 6 to show that ________.
A. parents should always forgive their kids
B. it's rude to leave a party early
C. communication is the key to solving problems
D. friends are more important than parents
35. What can we learn from the passage about the nature of effective communication with parents
A. It requires kids to completely accept parents' opinions to avoid arguments.
B. It needs mutual willingness to listen and express thoughts politely.
C. It mainly depends on writing notes since verbal communication is often ineffective.
D. It works best when kids keep silent and let parents talk first.

第二节 One possible version:
Dear_Jack,
I heard about the disagreement between you and your parents yesterday, and I'm really concerned about how you're feeling. But remember, communication is key.
Try to have a calm conversation with your parents about why you need your phone and how important it's to you. Maybe you can come up with a compromise that works for everyone. It's important to show them you're responsible and can use it wisely.
Looking forward to hearing from you and knowing how things go. Take care!
Yours,
Li_Hua

W: Good morning, International Student Office. May I help you
M: I'd like to talk to the director about my plan to go home next week.
W: Are you one of the students from England
M: No. I'm from the United States. I came last May.

W: Hm… I'm ringing because I lost my bag yesterday.
M: I see. Well, we received eight bags yesterday. What color is it
W: It's black.
M: Hmm… I've got three bags here. Can you give me some more information
W: It's quite large. I wear it over my shoulder. It's got a zip on the front and there's a pocket on the side for a mobile phone.
M: Is there anything in it
W: Yes. There's an address book and some keys. Oh, and Hissy, the snake.
M: There's a snake in your bag
W: Don't worry. It's made of plastic. It belongs to my little son.

M: Do you happen to know anything about the Flower Show
W: Well, it is in the Forest Park.
M: Can you tell me something about it Is it interesting
W: I'm afraid I'm not really sure because I have not had the time to see it. But my daughter was there the day before yesterday. She said it was really beautiful, all sorts of flowers—roses, tulips—you name it, and they have it. You see, the show is one of the tourist attractions in our city. Go there and take a look, young man.
M: I will. By the way, do you know when it is open
W: Well, let me see … It's open in the afternoon. My daughter told me.
M: Thanks.

M: Can I be of any help
W: Oh, thank you, Sam. You can be a great help. You know, Steve's parents will come to dinner today. This is the first time they have come to visit our new house since our marriage.
M: Good! What would you like me to do
W: Well, I can't make up my mind about what to have for dessert. I made two apple pies last night and I tasted one of them this morning, but it didn't taste good at all.
M: You'd better make the pies over again if you don't want Steve's parents to make faces over their dessert.
W: Oh, they wouldn't do that. They're too polite. They would just make me feel as if nothing was wrong and then complain to Steve about it later.
M: Look, why don't you just offer some fresh fruit and cheese for dessert Steve's parents would probably like a healthy dessert.
W: What a good idea.

W: Hello, I'm May Hunter. I'm at a travel conference and exhibition in Manchester, England. Manchester is a fantastic place! It's full of life, with lots to see and to do in the evenings. Yesterday was my first day. I checked in at the hotel and then went to Chinatown, which has some great Chinese restaurants and things to see. I love that kind of atmosphere and the wonderful Chinese supermarkets and clothes shops. I want to go back there later to do some shopping. I will buy some presents for my boyfriend. Today I went to the conference to register and set up my exhibition stand. I discussed the conference with my manager. I have found that the stand of my company is in a good position, near the coffee shop. So I should get lots of people passing and booking my holidays and tours. Things are going well!
