A
If you have ever lost touch with old school friends, you may find yourself wanting to make contact again. Some teens find that certain school friends are worth keeping contact with and want to keep the friendship going strong.
Hang out at the same places
One way you can get together with old friends from your school is to go to the same places that they go to. If you still go to school together, you probably know where everyone goes on weekends. If you are able to go there too, you may find that your relationships with your old school friends start up again.
Join sports teams
If you are athletic and your former friends are too, joining school sports teams is a great way to catch up with old friends. This doesn't mean that you should join a sports team which you do not like just so you can see your old friends. However, if you like sports, wish to join a team and your former friends are on that team, then playing the team sports is a great way to get to know them again.
Take part in school clubs
There are often a lot of school clubs in which teens participate. Depending on your interests and your former friends' interests, you may just find a club at school. Sharing a common interest such as a club activity will help you to have something in common and something to talk about.
21. You can get together with old friends by ________.
A. joining the dance clubs

I can well remember the pain. My stomach was sick, my heart hurt, and my eyes painful from holding back tears.
“You know, Annie,” my friend John said, “Joanna and Andrea were just talking about you.” I immediately got nervous. “They said that the only reason you start on the basketball team is because the coach likes you. It's not because you're good.” I thought I might be sick. “They said they're tired of you always getting what you want.” I struggled to keep myself from crying, sinking to my knees on the cold floor. After John told me everything my supposed best friends said about me, I was hurt.
Joanna and Andrea came in from lunch break acting as if nothing had happened. Joanna was still my deskmate, and Andrea was still my partner for our history project. I was amazed at their ability to pretend we had perfect friendship, especially since they'd said such hurtful things.
I was a freshman in high school, and I felt like I didn't have a friend in the world, all because of gossip—informal talk or stories about other people's private lives, perhaps unkind or not true.
The tongue can be our worst enemy. Gossip harms confidence and separates close friends. It's like a sharp knife, cutting one's self respect into pieces. When we say unkind things about others, we're sticking knives into their hearts.
So how was I to act next When Joanna and Andrea pretended our friendship hadn't changed, I thought of attacking them back. But instead, I told them directly that they had hurt me. Joanna started crying and Andrea was speechless. I knew they were both sorry for what they had said. They apologized, and I forgave them. Sure, things were a little uncomfortable at first, but soon enough everything was back to the way it had been before.
I still deal with gossip, sometimes as a receiver and sometimes as a sharer. But the more I learn about love, the more I realize the importance of encouraging others—something gossip never does.
24. What can we conclude from the second paragraph
A. Joanna and Andrea were grateful that the writer was their friend.
B. Joanna and Andrea made fun of the writer's basketball performances.
C. Joanna and Andrea were unhappy about the writer being on the team.
D. Joanna and Andrea did not think the writer was the coach's favourite.
25. How did the writer respond to her friends' comments about her
A. She decided to fight back immediately.
B. She told them frankly how she felt.
C. She found it awkward to speak to them.
D. She pretended that nothing had happened.
26. How does the writer deal with gossip
A. Positively. B. Negatively.
C. Unconcernedly. D. Unclearly.
27. What can we learn from the last paragraph
A. Gossip is definitely a sticking knife into people's hearts.
B. We have to be patient when people gossip about our friends.
C. We can't escape the world of gossip, but love offers a guiding hand.
D. We should be careful around our friends since they may cheat us sometimes.
We all want to be successful in our work. But what happens when our success comes at the risk of losing important friendships If your friends didn't receive what they were hoping for, your success could make them feel uncomfortable. But does that mean we shouldn't enjoy our achievements in case we displease someone or that we should feel sorry for being successful while others aren't
Those of us who value friendships might feel embarrassed for achieving more than our friends. But we deserve(应得) our success, and nothing should take it away. Jealousy(嫉妒) is only natural, but it's often unreasonable(不理智的) too. Your success is probably not connected with your friends' progress, so you shouldn't feel bad about achieving your goals. If your friends stay unfriendly, don't be afraid to keep yourself away from them. You are not responsible for their weaknesses.
On the other hand, your friends may think highly of your recent success while hiding their real feelings. They could be jealous, angry or sad that they are not progressing at the same rate. So, be careful not to talk big. It's a thin line between pride and overconfidence, and by crossing the line, you may risk losing team support.
Next time you want to boast(吹嘘) about your end of year win or high class new office, consider your listeners. Maybe your friends narrowly missed out on a position promotion(升职), or experienced pay cuts which meant they didn't get what they were expecting. If your work is on a rising path, it doesn't mean that's the case for everyone.
Perhaps a step forward in your work has meant that you don't spend as much time with your friends as you used to. If you've changed a job or moved to a new office, take the time to stay in touch with old friends. Don't let that hard work go to waste by losing touch with them.
28. The author starts the passage with two questions to ________.
A. show his writing purpose
B. lead to the topic of the text
C. tell us the problem between friends
D. explain how to make friends
29. From the second paragraph, it can be inferred that ________.
A. we could enjoy our success
B. our success will certainly hurt our friends
C. friends will surely help us make progress
D. our success is linked to our friends' progress
30. What does the passage mainly tell us
A. How to avoid hurting a friend.
B. How to keep relationships between friends.
C. How to share our success with friends.
D. How to enjoy success to the fullest.
31. Which of the following is true according to the passage
A. If our friends support our success, we should consider their feelings.
B. We should feel sorry for being successful while our friends aren't.
C. When we achieve great success, we should make our friends proud of us.
D. When we achieve great success, we can also help friends make progress.
It's said that making friends gets harder when you get older. People form their existing(现有的) friendships during childhood or at university. However, new research suggests that's not what happens. According to a recent survey, the age group that feels least confident in chatting to strangers is those aged 18 to 24. Similarly, it was found that 59% of Millennials(千禧一代) spend more time chatting to friends on social media than they do face to face in person.
The author and expert on friendship, Kate Leaver, said, “Young people are not confident when speaking to strangers not only because they're afraid of refusal, but also because they've really been socially conditioned(习惯于……的) not to do it. Previous generations have a much stronger sense of community in public and shared spaces. We don't have as much access(接触的机会) to that because the way we form our modern lives means we are less in touch with our communities. Shared public spaces like parks and libraries—places where people might get close to a stranger—are being shut down.”
Laura, 27, who enjoys the company of her old friends, hates meeting new people. Most of her friends are from university days. “I'm pretty chatty and open when I get to know someone, but during that first meeting, I'm very shy. I get very anxious about what to talk about and worry that people do not understand my sense of humour.”
But not all young people feel the same way. Hayley always meets people in unusual ways and makes friends with them. “I became good friends with someone who I met on the plane,” she said. “It just shows how you can really connect when you're offline.”
If you're comfortable with your present friendship situation, that's great. But, if you do want to enlarge your social circle, here are some tips. Avoid unpleasant silences by searching for people with common interests—join a book club or a local sports team. If it is too stressful, there are some friendship apps that you can use. Or start a conversation with someone in a public place.
32. What can we learn from the recent survey
A. Building friendships at university is necessary.
B. Teens spend less time with friends than before.
C. Making friends gets harder on social media.
D. Young people build relationships with difficulty.
33. What does the underlined word “that” in paragraph 2 probably refer to
A. A public space. B. A stranger.
C. The sense of community. D. The social condition.
34. What problem does Laura have in socializing
A. She has no sense of humour.
B. She fails to contact her old friends.
C. She prefers to make new friends online.
D. She is unwilling to get close to new people.
35. What does the author suggest in the last paragraph
A. Learning some skills on apps.
B. Choosing friends carefully.
C. Joining groups with shared interests.
D. Keeping strong ties with old friends.

A
根据第二段中“One way you can get together with old friends from your school is to go to the same places that they go to.”
根据第三段中“If you are athletic and your former friends are too, joining school sports teams is a great way to catch up with old friends.”
根据第一段中“Some teens find that certain school friends are worth keeping contact with and want to keep the friendship going strong.”
根据第二段中“‘Joanna and Andrea were just talking about you … the only reason you start on the basketball team is because the coach likes you. It's not because you're good … tired of you always getting what you want.’”
根据倒数第二段中“But instead, I told them directly that they had hurt me.”
根据第一段中“But what happens when our success comes at the risk of losing important friendships … feel sorry for being successful while others aren't?”
根据第二段中“But we deserve our success, and nothing should take it away.”
根据第三段中“On the other hand, your friends may think highly of your recent success while hiding their real feelings.”以及第四段中“Next time you want to boast about your end of year win or high class new office, consider your listeners.”
根据第一段中“the age group that feels least confident … more time chatting to friends on social media than they do face to face in person”可知,年轻群体在社交中缺乏自信,建立关系存在困难。
根据第二段中“Previous generations have a much stronger sense of community … we are less in touch with our communities.”
根据第三段中“Laura, 27, who enjoys the company of her old friends, hates meeting new people.”
根据最后一段中“Avoid unpleasant silences by searching for people with common interests—join a book club or a local sports team.”
36—40 CEDAG

37. 根据下文“And a major way this happens is through broken promises.” E项“事实上,经历一些来自朋友的严重伤害是很正常的”中提到的experience some serious hurt from your friends正是下文this的指代内容。
根据下文“the first thing to do is remember that no one is perfect”可知,空处提到的应该是当不好的事情发生的时候,我们应该记住人无完人。
根据下文“‘Sometimes jealousy shows our deepest desires,’ says Dr Yager. ‘Healthy envy can motivate you to become better and be inspired by your friend's success,’ she says.”
40. 上文“Then find someone else to talk to—maybe a family member, or a close friend(not the one who went on the trip)—to explain how you feel.”

根据下文“She made the matter even __45__ than it was, adding things that were not true and telling everyone at school.”
根据下文adding things that were not true and telling everyone at school可知,Sally添加了不真实的事情,并告诉了学校里的每个人,由此推知,她把事情弄得比实际情况更糟。
根据上文“I don't know what made me tell Sally about my personal life.”和adding things that were not true and telling everyone at school可知,作者把自己的私事告诉了Sally,由此推知,此处指Sally泄露了作者的秘密。
Sally泄露了作者的秘密,结合上文“everyone at school started laughing at me, looking at me”和常识可推知,学校里的人都会窃窃私语,悄悄说作者的事情。
48. cheered up振作起来;calmed down冷静下来;torn apart撕裂,使心碎;left alone独自留下。根据上文“After she brought my __46__ to the light, everyone at school started laughing at me … I changed schools. Sally called me many times, but I didn't answer.”
根据上文“It was like someone had stabbed me in the back.”

53. in trouble处于困境中;at a loss不知所措;in panic惊慌失措;at ease自在。结合上文和下文“I wished I could have asked Sally about this. I wished I could go back in time and __54__ my mistakes.”

One possible version:
Dear_Jack,
I'm glad to have received your letter but I am sorry you are having some trouble in making friends.
In my opinion, friendship is one of the most important things in everyone's life. If you would like to take my advice, you'll win real friendship. Firstly, communicate with your friends, tell them what you think about friendship, and express your willingness to connect. Secondly, you should learn to share your happiness and sorrow with your friends.Thirdly, invite your friends to join in some activities, which helps deepen your friendship.
I hope you will find these opinions and ideas useful.
Best_regards,
Li_Hua

Text 10
M: Thank you so much, ladies and gentlemen. You can have your seats and enjoy with us the rest of the program. The New Year for me, especially when I was quite young, was more of a festival. I remember waiting almost the entire year for the New Year's holidays. I remember saving money and keeping that for buying New Year cards. And that was the most unforgettable memory of my childhood instead of getting pocket money. I remember those beautiful little cards and the small envelopes in which I used to put those cards. In fact, the biggest and the best card was for our teacher, the second best for the best friend, and the rest were for others, including my brothers and sisters. I remember spending a whole week in happiness and bringing home a lot of New Year cards. Nowadays when I see those cards I am reminded of my childhood. And I still buy one for myself. I hope many of you do. And on this occasion, we will hand out New Year cards, chocolates, and flowers to everyone. Volunteers will go to you and pass you these little presents. After that, we will move on to our musical journey.
