This is not a diet. It's a simple way to lose weight. You don't have to give up the food you love or join a gym. You just need to follow some habits thin people have. Keep them, and you'll become thin.
Wake up
When you wake up in the morning, sit up slowly without using your hands. With legs straight out, lean forward(前倾) until you feel sore(酸痛的) in your back. It will burn about 10 calories.
Start with soup
Order a clear soup, and have it before the main food. In this way, you'll feel fuller, so you'll eat less when the main food comes.
An apple (or more) a day
Apples are full of fiber(纤维素) and water, so your stomach will want less. Studies show that people who eat at least three apples or pears a day may lose weight.
Stand up and walk around
Every time you use the cellphone, stand up and walk around. Heavy people sit on average two and a half hours more each day than thin people. This habit is very important because standing up and walking around will burn 50 or more calories.

B[2025长沙雨花期末]
In the last 20 years, the number of overweight children has increased by more than 50%. About 25% to 30% of school age children in the United States are obese, which puts them at a high risk of heart disease and other health problems.
According to the experts, poor eating habits and inactivity are the root causes of childhood obesity. In addition, the high level of fat calories in the average American diet is leading to the rapid increase in childhood obesity.
If a child is more than 40% overweight, a scientific weight loss program may be suggested to change the child's eating behaviors. During the course of the program, the emphasis should be on developing a healthier lifestyle in the long term, not just on losing weight at present. Children are developing physically and mentally, and they need enough nutrition as they grow. A healthy diet combined with exercise is the best way to achieve a healthy level of body fat.
Dr Gidding, a professor at Yale University, explains that many children or teens tend to become overweight because of too many calories and too little exercise. “If your child tends to sit around and watch television or play video games, try gently introducing more physical activities into your family life,” suggests Dr Gidding. “Take a walk together or go for a bike ride. Make good nutrition and exercise a family affair by planning low fat meals, nutritious snacks and family activities.”
24. What can be learnt about American children from paragraph 1
A. They have many health problems.
B. Over 70% of them are overweight.
C. Obesity is a serious problem among them.
D. Obesity causes their appearance anxiety.
25. According to paragraph 2, how many causes are leading to kids' obesity
A. One. B. Two. C. Three. D. Four.
26. What does the weight loss program in paragraph 3 focus on
A. A balanced diet.
B. Eating much less than usual.
C. Regular exercise.
D. Forming a healthier lifestyle.
27. What is one of Dr Gidding's suggestions to parents of teens
A. Stay active along with their children.
B. Forbid children to play video games.
C. Allow children to eat what they like.
D. Get children to do exercise frequently.
C[2025北京延庆期中]
Every year around August, millions of teens take their parents to stores to buy new clothes for the start of the school year. Not every parent can afford this, and some teens are forced to go to school in the same clothes they wore last year. The obvious differences in clothes cause differences among students. There is a simple solution to this problem: school uniforms(校服).
I know from personal experience and surveys that wearing uniforms creates a sense of equality among peers(同龄人).
From sixth grade until I graduated from senior high school, I attended a school that required students to wear uniforms. The uniform was very simple: dark brown shoes, green brown pants, and a white shirt. The uniform left little room for any kind of self expression, especially through clothes.
However, I learned how to stand out by expressing myself through my personality, art, and sports. I did not know I could draw until the sixth grade. I also would never have learned of my musical abilities if it hadn't been for my desire to find ways to express myself. Uniforms taught me that I was myself, except for what I wore.
Uniforms also contribute to a much safer learning environment. I remember a particular event that happened in my junior high school. A man ran away from prison and wanted to hide in the gym of our school. Luckily, cameras all over the school quickly found the stranger before any danger could ever happen as he was out_of_place. School officials kept the man locked inside our gym until the police came to take him back to prison.
Uniforms help provide a better educational experience for all students no matter what race(种族), culture, or economic class(经济阶层). In closing, wearing uniforms is good for both schools and students.
28. How does the author introduce the topic
A. By explaining a basic rule.
B. By challenging others' views.
C. By sharing his parents' experience.
D. By describing a common problem.
29. Which of the following could the author agree with
A. Uniforms should be more modern.
B. Uniforms can help shape better students.
C. Uniforms are popular with students.
D. Uniforms are bad for self development.
30. What do the underlined words “out of place” in paragraph 5 probably mean
A. Dressing differently. B. Standing straight.
C. Running fast. D. Breathing heavily.
31. What is the author's purpose in writing the text
A. To record his high school life.
B. To introduce high school uniforms.
C. To ask students to like what they wear.
D. To show his supportive view towards uniforms.
D
Nearly 1 in 10 adolescent girls have used non prescription(非处方类的) pills to lose weight, according to new research. The research noted that teenage girls are the most likely group to use these so called weight loss aids, and pointed out that these trends—and the mindset driving them—increase the risks of eating disorders and overall harm to physical and mental health.
Nichole Kelly, a scientist who specializes in eating behaviors and body image beliefs, said that adolescence(青春期) is a particularly vulnerable time for young people seeking out weight loss measures. Girls are going through adolescence, which means increases in fat mass in girls' bodies. This age is also marked by an increase in the importance of the opinion of peers, who are often really cruel toward bigger bodies. Weight and appearance are the top reasons kids are bullied(霸凌) at school. So it's not surprising that there are high levels of weight loss supplement(补充剂) use among adolescents, and among girls in particular.
The role of social media is especially crucial in understanding how young people are viewing their bodies. “If you open up any social media platform and do any sort of quick search for content related to weight loss or related to health and wellness, you'll very quickly come across advertisements for weight loss supplements,” Kelly said. “I think that the weight loss supplement industry has really taken advantage of the way that social media allow content and posts to be spread so quickly.”
“Most people assume that these products are natural, safe, and effective when the research evidence shows that none of those things are true,” Kelly said. She stressed that these products can actively cause harm. The lack of regulation(监管) of the weight loss supplement industry means that some products have dangerous chemical substances.
32. Which group is most likely to take weight loss pills according to new research
A. Teenage girls. B. Teenage boys.
C. Adult females. D. Adult males.
33. What does the author think of the girls wanting to lose weight
A. They have poor self respect.
B. They are hard to understand.
C. They suffer from peer pressure.
D. They are influenced by families.
34. What is the main idea of paragraph 3
A. Social media spread content quickly.
B. Social media help improve one's body image.
C. Social media are full of weight loss supplement ads.
D. Social media popularize weight loss supplements.
35. What can we learn about weight loss supplements from paragraph 4
A. They are well regulated.
B. They are free from harmful chemicals.
C. They work as well as prescription drugs.
D. They may be harmful despite being marketed as safe.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)[2026南京鼓楼月考]
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Dieting is often doomed to failure. __36__ No carbs(碳水化合物) after 6 p.m. No problem—until we're out for dinner, on our second glass of wine and reaching for the bread basket. Everyone has a flash point that makes it hard to say no, but eventually, resisting temptation(抵御诱惑) is the key to successful weight loss.
Now research from leading psychologists has spotted the parts of the brain involved in resisting temptation, and how we can use them to stop reaching for chocolate cake. Leading the charge is Professor Walter Mischel, whose research has given the answer. __37__ Our mind has two systems. One is cool, slow and allows for self control, goal setting and willpower—the “no” system. The other is hot, emotional and present from birth—the “go” system.
So when you see a chocolate cake, the “hot” part of your brain reacts to thoughts of the delicious taste, and the sugar rush you have learned that a slice will give you. Instead of giving in, what you need to do is to activate the “cool” part of your brain by thinking about your goals and practicing far sightedness. Imagine the sense of satisfaction you'd get, from fitting into your favorite dress in a couple of weeks' time, for example. __38__
Stress(压力) is another issue. __39__ The first thing to do is to be aware of how stress changes your behavior. Then develop an action plan to deal with it. This might involve taking healthy snacks to work or finding ways to cope better with your time and emotions.
__40__ If you habitually eat chocolate, for instance, then every time you see it, you remember the high. So the research is clear: if you want to be slim, fit and healthy, it's time to take control of your mind.
A. But the following tips can be of some help.
B. The problem is, we don't follow the rules we learn.
C. Brain scans have also shown memory's significant role in overeating.
D. To resist temptation, our brain has to shift from the “hot” to the “cool”.
E. It's a simple strategy(策略), but experiments have shown it is highly effective.
F. The sight of the mouth watering food will also set off the bomb in your brain.
G. It has been shown to switch on the hot part of the brain and cause us to overeat.
36. 37. 38.
39. 40.

16 year old Mia Carter, a student from New York's Brooklyn district, used to be obsessed(着迷的) with the “ideal body” images on social media. Her Instagram Feed was flooded with posts of teens with slim figures, and she soon began to feel __41__ about her own body, which was a little curvier(曲线更明显的) than the online “standards”. Determined to change, she made a risky decision: she would __42__ most meals and only eat a small bowl of salad every day.
At first, Mia felt a sense of __43__ when she saw her weight drop by two pounds in a week. She even showed off her “progress” to her best friend, Lily, but Lily frowned and warned her that extreme dieting would hurt her health. Mia, however, didn't take the advice seriously, thinking Lily was just being __44__. Within three weeks, though, the bad __45__ of her diet started to show. She became __46__ during class, unable to __47__ on her lessons, and had to quit the school volleyball team she'd joined years ago because of lack of energy.
Her mom, Mrs Carter, noticed the changes immediately and grew deeply __48__. She took Mia to see a doctor, who told them that Mia was __49__ of protein and other essential nutrients. The doctor also explained that true beauty wasn't about a perfect figure, but about a healthy body and a positive mind. With the doctor's guidance, she started a(n) __50__ eating plan and did light exercise to get into better __51__ without starving herself.
Two months later, Mia recovered completely, returned to the volleyball team, and got an A in Maths. She walked with newfound __52__, and Lily said she looked far __53__ and happier. M: Where do you want to go
W: I want to return to my hotel, the Sunshine Hotel.
M: Go straight along this road, then go over the bridge and turn right at the bookshop. You'll find your hotel.
W: Thank you. By the way, I plan to go to the local museum first. Can you direct me to it
M: Oh, it is so far from here. You can take the subway.
W: But I prefer to try walking. How long will it take if I walk there
M: It will take you about three quarters of an hour.
W: It's a bit long. Where is the subway station

M: Honey, we've spent too much today.
W: Well, it's better to have good food than to buy cheap things. And things in the supermarket are cheaper than those at the local store.
M: Well, let's see how much we've spent.
W: Remember that we went to the bookstore as well. I bought a storybook. That was $15. And you bought a magazine. That was $10.
M: So we need to add $25 onto our bill.
W: That's right. We bought a lot of nice things, though. Look at these strawberries. They are only $3.
M: And we bought ice cream to go with them. Besides, the chicken is $10. It is too expensive.
W: But it will last for three days.
M: Oh, by the way, what are we going to eat for dinner
W: How about chicken, rice and some soup There will be some salad in the fridge too.
M: That sounds great. I'm hungry now. I'd like to have some oranges. Would you like some
W: Yeah. Then I'll cook the chicken right now.
M: OK. How about reading a book after dinner
W: Good idea.

M: I'll talk about my funny experience in New York. Years ago, my wife and I were living next to a park, and every morning, I went running there. Many people had reminded me to be careful of thieves in the park, so I usually took no money with me. But one morning, my wife asked me to buy some bread on the way home, so I took a 10 dollar note in my pocket. While I was running through the park, a young man knocked into me. He apologized and continued running. I thought it was strange, so I checked my pocket and found that the money was missing. I immediately ran after the young man and took him by his arm. I shouted and asked him to give me back the 10 dollars. This frightened him, and he put his hand in his pocket and gave me the money. Then he ran away quickly. I bought the bread and went back home. I told my wife the experience. “But you left the money for the bread on the kitchen table,” she said.
