第一节(共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A Tracking Global Data on Electric Vehicles
As the transport industry is one of the greatest contributors to global carbon emissions (排放), electric vehicles (EVs) have become an essential carbon reduction solution since EVs typically have a lower lifetime carbon impact than petrol or gas cars. While more carbon is released in the making stage, the "carbon debt" tends to pay off quickly once they are on the road. How quickly are countries moving to electric vehicles Which countries are leading the way Let’s look at data (2024) on electric vehicle shares of new car sales from the International Energy Agency’s Global EV Outlook. In the chart below, you can explore these trends across the world.
Here, "electric cars" include battery-electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs). The table below introduces these two technologies in detail.
Feature EVs PHEVs
Power Source Battery only Battery plus petrol engine
Carbon Emission Zero when driving Lower than conventional cars, but produces emissions when using petrol
Range on Electricity Longer Shorter
“The global shift to electric vehicles is essential for sustainable transport and reducing fossil fuel needs,” notes Dr. Michael Carter, a researcher at the International Energy Agency (IEA). “However, this transition faces practical challenges — like improving battery performance, costs and extending driving range, as well as expanding charging networks and securing sustainable supply chains.”
To tackle these challenges, joint efforts in technology, policies, and infrastructure (基础设施) are all crucial. As Carter emphasizes, “Only through combined efforts across industries and regions can we ensure the transition is both smooth and effective, enabling a truly sustainable transportation system in the future.”
21. How much higher is China’s EV share than the world average
A. 22%. B. 26%. C. 48%. D. 70%.
22. How is an EV different from a PHEV
A. It costs less to make. B. It has a petrol engine.
C. It makes zero emission. D. It covers a shorter range.
23. What does Dr. Carter emphasize regarding the transition
A. Better battery technology.
B. Efforts across various fields.
C. More consumer education.
D. Sufficient government funding.

I can recall exactly where I was when I came up with the idea for my adult fantasy series, Emily Wilde. It was Mary’s, a particularly cozy (温馨的) coffee shop in my hometown. I had my coffee and was looking through an encyclopedia (百科全书) of fairy tales, wondering about what the experience of writing something like that would be like. These ideas would eventually turn into Emily Wilde’s Encyclopedia of Tales. The only thing is, however, I didn’t realize at the time this was an idea for an adult fantasy novel, because I was working on a proposal for a children’s book.
I went through multiple first chapters and outlines and ultimately set the proposal aside. Though I was excited about the idea — high concept and interesting main character, I couldn’t get the story to work. At that moment, I believed abandoned draft represented wasted effort. What I didn’t realize then was that this failed children’s book would recycle into Emily Wilde’s Encyclopedia of Tales, which has since gone to 10-plus reprints and been translated into 20 languages.
Since then, I’ve kept most of my old writing notebooks. Looking through them, I can see the embryos of novels I’ve since published. My fantasy retelling of Anne of Green Gables, for example, was originally supposed to be a teen novel, which I gave up after the first chapter. A year later I returned to it and realized it fit better for younger readers, unlocking an entirely new direction. Even my failures that seem the most useless still taught me how to be a better writer. I’ve now written 11 published novels, and I’m looking forward to many more years of failure.
For struggling writers, my advice is: try recycling old ideas into new forms. Sometimes it’s not the idea that’s the problem but the shape. Regarding that middle-grade fairy novel -- I think I’m going to give it another try.
24. What was the author planning to do at the coffee shop
A. Complete a fairy tale. B. Write an adult fantasy.
C. Draft a children’s book. D. Read an encyclopedia.
25. Which of the following best describes Emily Wilde’s Encyclopedia of Tales
A. Unworkable. B. Complicated.
C. Ambitious. D. Successful.
26. What does the underlined word embryos in paragraph 3 refer to
A. Final versions. B. Early stages.
C. Detailed outlines. D. Future directions.
27. What does the author’s story show
A. Writing requires talent.
B. Ideas come easily.
C. Practice ensures success.
D. Failures fuel growth.

Where do you go if you are not at school, work or home For some people, the answer is, nowhere. With the spread of social media and the changes in city structure, third places — locations designed for socialization — have largely disappeared. This loss of once-common shared spaces is closely linked to rising loneliness, especially among young people.
Third places are spaces that are neither home nor work, but somewhere in between. They are places where people would run into familiar faces, interact with strangers and chat with friends. Coffee shops, bars, parks and parks are typical examples. While such places once played an important role in daily life, their presence has become increasingly rare.
Now we have on-demand streaming, and social media, which are further extensions of that fundamental shift. Some argue that the internet itself has become a third place. However, a lack of human connection has fueled a loneliness crisis. The internet, mobile phones and video games have opened a universe of new connections and opportunities. Yet digital interactions have failed to replace the need to connect on an emotional level in the physical world.
Changes in city structure have also reshaped third places. In many large cities, public spaces are unevenly available. Centrally located communities often enjoy private facilities, while other areas lack accessible shared spaces. Even where third places still exist, they are often less welcoming. Some venues are too expensive, others appear designed to discourage people from staying for long. This reflects a culture that values productivity and status, leaving limited time for leisurely social life. The growth of car-centered has further reduced opportunities for casual encounters. Streets designed mainly for vehicles, together with suburban lifestyles, make it easier to stay apart than to gather in public spaces.
Still, third places have not disappeared entirely. Making the effort to use and value existing shared spaces may help restore their social role, as socializing, like any skill, improves with practice.
28. What phenomenon does the author point out in paragraph 1
A. Loss of shared social spaces. B. Work pressure in daily life.
C. Increased use of digital media. D. Reduced face-to-face interaction.
29. Why are coffee shops mentioned paragraph 2
A. To suggest changes. B. To clarify a concept.
C. To explain a reason. D. To compare functions.
30. What can be inferred about the changes in city structure
A. They serve most of the residents.
B. They improve working efficiency.
C. They influence access to shared places.
D. They encourage stays in public spaces.
31. What does the author suggest people should do about third places
A. Make full use of third places.
B. Limit the speed of socializing.
C. Shift street design away from cars.
D. Expand the supply of public places.
D
Scientists have developed a new technique that doubles the amount of hydrogen produced when splitting water with electricity. The method works by adding a simple organic substance and a modified catalyst (催化剂) to the reactor. According to a study, the adapted method lowers energy costs by up to 40% and may offer a promising pathway for efficient and environmentally friendly hydrogen production.
Hydrogen is one of the most widely used chemicals. Currently, the main way of producing hydrogen is through steam reforming, which involves reacting water with natural gas at high temperatures and pressures. This process is energy-consuming and requires burning large amounts of non-renewable fuels.
Using electricity to split water into hydrogen and oxygen, a method known as electrolysis (电解), could potentially produce hydrogen with no direct carbon dioxide emissions. However, water electrolysis is currently inefficient and expensive, and it consumes large amounts of electricity, much of which still comes from non-renewable sources. One major source of inefficiency is the production of oxygen at the positive electrode (电极).
To tackle this problem, the researchers adapted the standard electrolysis setup by replacing the oxygen-forming reaction with one that also produces hydrogen. In their experiment, they added an organic material called hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) and a modified catalyst to the system. When electricity was applied, hydrogen was produced at both electrodes, effectively doubling the amount of hydrogen generated in a single process.
The reactions ran at around 0.4 V; which is about 1 V lower than in conventional water electrolysis. This reduction helps cut overall energy use by up to 40%, the researchers said.
There are challenges, though. HMF is currently expensive, and further work is needed to improve the catalyst’s stability so that it can operate for long periods in industrial settings. Nevertheless, experts note that transforming low-value organic materials into useful chemicals while producing hydrogen could be an environmentally friendly way to generate energy and valuable products at the same time.
32. What is the feature of the new technique
A. Hydrogen production without electricity.
B. Dependence on renewable energy sources.
C. Greater efficiency through reaction changes.
D. Higher hydrogen output with lower energy use.
33. Why is traditional water electrolysis considered inefficient
A. It requires rare materials for operation.
B. It relies on electricity from fossil fuels.
C. It operates under high-temperature conditions.
D. It wastes energy in oxygen-producing reaction.
34. How does the adapted method improve hydrogen production
A. By producing hydrogen at both electrodes.
B. By lowering the overall production cost.
C. By replacing electricity with organic fuels.
D. By raising the temperature of the reaction.
35. What can be the suitable title for the text
A. The Importance of Hydrogen as an Energy Source
B. Traditional and Modern Methods of Water Electrolysis
C. A More Efficient Way to Produce Hydrogen from Water
D. Organic Materials and Their Role in Chemical Reactions

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
The room was filling up with teachers and administrators. I had been invited to present a workshop on innovative teaching methods to a large group of local teachers. At that moment, I was a single father with two little children. My daughter, Shayna, was about seven years old and my son, Ethan, was just five. Because this was not a school day, I had arranged for a babysitter to watch my children while I drove to the conference site.
Unfortunately, the sitter canceled the morning of the conference and I had to take both children with me. As a single parent and educator, I often found myself balancing my professional life with my two young children. They had been at many of my presentations before so they “the drill.” They knew they had to sit and play quietly.
Shayna brought books and drawing materials to occupy her time, while Ethan brought a small suitcase of building blocks and soldier dolls. They sat at a table at the very-back of the room, facing away from the front where I would be presenting, both fully buried in play.
The teachers’ group was lively and responsive. At one point, a teacher raised her hand and said, “I wonder what you’d suggest about hugging.” “Hugging is such a natural display of affection.” I replied. “It is often the very best thing you can do when a child is hurting, depressed, crying or frightened.” To lighten the mood, I joked, “You know, when adults hug, part of us might be wondering about practical things, like whether we’ve paid our credit card bill!” The teachers laughed, appreciating the humor in our shared human complexities.
I continued, “Children hug differently. They’re fully present in that moment — no distractions (分心的), no reservations. His entire being is in that hug.” The group smiled approvingly.
Weeks later, after a particularly long teaching day, I returned home exhausted. My mind was still stuffed with lecture notes, student concerns, and administrative tasks.

Dear Peter,
Our group hold the view that it is necessary to make laws to limit teenagers’ use of social media.
Firstly, long-time surfing online takes up much study time and ruins their regular schedule. Besides, various harmful information online is likely to mislead teenagers who lack self-control. Meanwhile, less screen time helps them spend more time on outdoor activities and face-to-face communication.
That’s our opinion and we’re ready for further discussion.
Yours,
Li Hua
读后续写范文
Stepping inside our home, I wondered where the children were. The house was quiet with no usual laughter. Soon Shayna and Ethan ran toward me. Before I could say a word, they threw themselves into my arms tightly. Tired as I was, all my tiredness faded away the instant I felt their warm hug.
At that moment, I remembered what I had said about hugs. Unlike busy adults with endless worries, kids devote all their love into a simple hug without any distraction. I held them longer and realized the priceless power of children’s sincere affection, which comforted my worn heart perfectly.
