But when people looked closely at the paintings, they found the dragons had no eyes.
Long ago, there was a very famous artist named Zhang Sengyou .
Zhang had to paint eyes on two of the dragons, though he didn’t want to do it.
He was good at painting dragons. One day, the Liang emperor(皇帝) asked him to paint four golden dragons on a wall.
Everyone was amazed by the magical scene, and they admired(钦慕) Zhang Sengyou even more after that.
They asked Zhang why he didn’t paint the eyes. He said, “If I give the dragons eyes, they will come to life and fly away.” But no one believed him.
Zhang finished the paintings in three days. The dragons looked so real that they seemed to jump off the wall.
Just as he finished the last eye, strong wind, thunder and lightning came. The two dragons with eyes came to life and flew up into the sky.
