A few years ago, research by the National Alliance for Youth Sports in the USA found that most young people (around 70%) gave up playing all organised (有组织的) sport by the age of thirteen. This is really surprising because everyone knows that sports are good for our body and mind.
According to the research, the main reason that teenagers no longer wanted to take part in any organised sport was that “it’s just not fun any more”. When I was a child, playing sports was all about having a good time with my friends. It didn’t matter if you were not the fastest and most skillful, you still joined in. It was about playing together, learning to win and lose, laughing and crying, but above all enjoying the moment. But now that we are older, sports teachers and coaches only seem to be interested in the few kids who want to take it seriously. The rest of us, who just want to play for fun, get forgotten.
As I see it, it isn’t just sport that is the problem; it’s the whole culture of success that we live in. Every day we are told to “be the best”, “give 110%” and “never give up”. But what if you just want to do something you aren’t very good at because it’s fun
People also need to remember that life for a teenager is pretty busy. You don’t want to miss out on spending time with friends and developing other interests just because you have to go to sports training five times a week. And let’s not forget school. As we get older, we spend more and more time studying, both at home and at school.
What really matters is that sport is so important. Besides the physical advantages, lots of research shows sport can help young people deal with stress (压力). When around 30% of teenagers are experiencing stress, we need to do everything possible to get them to take up a sport.
What can we do to make such a big change happen In my opinion, we need schools, sports organisations and governments to understand that, above all else, sport isn’t about being the best, training hard, and winning—it’s about having fun, making friends, and taking part.
24.The writer mentions his own experience of playing sports as a child to _________.
A.show his excellence in sports
B.share his love of playing sports
C.describe the true meaning of sport for children
D.tell the importance of sport for children’s development
25.What can we learn from the passage
A.Teenagers should take better care of their minds and bodies.
B.Sports training time should not take up students’ study time.
C.The culture of success stops teenagers playing organised sport.
D.Teenagers need suggestions in managing sports and other things.
26.What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage
A.To warn schools of the risk of trying to win in sports.
B.To ask for more chances to enjoy playing sports.

What is success Is it winning a competition or getting an amazing job Or is it cooking a dish without burning it Well, success is basically the achievement (成就) of a goal or purpose, no matter how big or small. Success motivates (激励) us and gives us confidence. According to scientists, it is closely connected with happiness.
Although success can mean reaching any kind of goal, it is often connected with achievement in our work. Of course, the media (媒体) plays a huge part in shaping this idea of success. Magazines and websites often have articles and talks about the secret to success, usually written by rich or famous people. To them, success means being fit, beautiful, and rich. Because of this, many of us believe that we must achieve something amazing to be successful.
For some people, this idea of success can encourage them to reach great goals. However, others may find it hard to manage the pressure (压力), which can result in a fear (害怕) of success. You may feel this fear when you have to give a speech in public or take on a new and difficult job. It often comes with worry and even physical problems like headaches. As a result, we might do anything to avoid the situation. We might make up excuses to avoid speaking or say no to the new job. But this can stop us from moving forward in life and can make us feel even more worried.
One way to deal with the fear of success is to change how we think about it. We should try to set goals that are realistic and easier to achieve. We can also work on everyday tasks that we can improve. It is helpful not to compare ourselves to others and their achievements. Instead, we should think about what we can do and how to grow those skills. Research suggests that this can help us feel happier and more motivated.
Some research suggests that happy people are more likely to succeed. We might say that happiness leads to success. According to this idea, it may be more meaningful to spend time doing things that make us happy rather than worrying about what we are good at or how successful we appear.
27.Why does the author mention the media in Paragraph 2
A.To discuss why successful people are rich and famous.
B.To explain how people form a common idea of success.
C.To advise people to question the truth of media messages.
D.To show how the media motivates people to achieve their dreams.
28.What do we know about the fear of success according to the passage
A.It can keep people from making progress in life.
B.It stops people from comparing themselves to others.
C.People should see it as an encouragement to succeed.
D.People with it are usually not interested in achieving goals.
29.What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage
A.To describe the connection between happiness and success.
B.To provide suggestions on different ways to achieve success.
C.To warn people of the dangers of paying too much attention to success.
D.To encourage people to achieve success through small progress and happiness.
D
If a stranger asks for using your phone, would you help What if a person wants to borrow thirty yuan for a meal, saying he will return and pay you back later
Some of you may choose to trust them and offer your help. There are two main ideas to explain why some people trust others more easily. One idea says that trust is a lasting quality (特性) which has a relationship with early life experiences. A child who always sees parents keeping promises often trusts others easily. The other idea shows how a person keeps checking their social environment affects (影响) trust. For example, we can easily understand that if someone asks you, “Do you think we can trust most people in the society ” your answer might depend on whether you were stolen yesterday or if someone gave back your lost wallet.
However, a new study shows that our ability to trust strangers may be more than just a social habit—it could be part of our DNA.This is important because the study also found that people who trust others may live longer and healthier lives than those who often question others.
This is what recent research explored. Professor Edgerton’s team studied about 34,000 people and discovered a gene called PLPP4 that connects to trust. They discovered PLPP4 explains 6% of trust differences between people with similar life experiences. Genes work like biological rules and this gene changes how our brain acts around strangers.
Scientists believe PLPP4 may work by changing our brain’s danger warning system. Usually, meeting strangers wakes up this system automatically (自动地), making us ready to run away or fight. But PLPP4 seems to take the sting out of this alarm, making us feel calmer around new people. This biological difference helps explain why some people naturally trust more easily than others.
This genetic effect could benefit health. When our brain’s alarm system stays calm, we experience less stress. Since long—term stress harms the heart, this natural trust through PLPP4 might reduce (减少) the risks of heart disease. Understanding how genes shape trust could help build healthier communities worldwide.
30.What might affect people’s trust according to the two main ideas
A.Childhood habits. B.Personal abilities.
C.Life experiences. D.Communication skills
31.The words “take the sting out of this alarm” in Paragraph 5 probably mean “________”
A.turn off the safety system B.get out of the difficult situation
C.increase the level of danger D.reduce the feeling of being afraid
32.The writer probably agrees that ________.
A.people with the PLPP4 gene are more likely to help strangers
B.similar life experiences play an important role in shaping trust
C.the PLPP4 gene influences trust more than social environment
D.less active danger warning system makes it harder to trust others
33.What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage
A.To compare different opinions on how trust is formed.
B.To show the advantages of trusting others in daily life.
C.To explain why some people find it hard to trust strangers.
D.To present a new study on how genes affect trust and health.

In recent years, our country has been actively increasing public health awareness (意识). While following the healthy eating pyramid to have healthy food is important, we must also pay close attention to mental health.
Students’ Mental Health Day is on May 25th. This date, pronounced “wu er wu” in Chinese, sounds similar to “love yourself” in Chinese. Research shows that 1 in 5 teenagers worldwide experience mental health problems. In China, nearly 30% of middle school students feel stressed regularly.
For teenagers today, there are several common mental health problems. Firstly, study stress is a big problem. Many students feel nervous before exams. Secondly, online apps have good and bad sides. Spending too much time online often leads to feelings of anxiety (焦虑). Thirdly, family relationships are also important because good family relationships can give teenagers love and support. If there isn’t enough communication in the family, teenagers will feel stressed.
To solve these problems, we can take several steps. First, schools can offer more mental health education courses. These classes can teach students how to manage stress and build resilience (韧性,抗逆力). Second, parents should communicate more with their children. It’s good for creating a supportive home environment. Third, teenagers themselves should develop healthy habits, such as regular exercise and less screen time. A study found that 30 minutes of daily exercise can reduce anxiety levels by 20%.
In conclusion, health includes both a good diet and a healthy mind. By taking care of our mental well-being, we can lead happier and more colourful lives. Remember, loving ourselves is the first step to a healthier future.
