Sleep is not a single state but some repeating cycles. There are two main types of sleep: NREM (non-rapid eye movement) sleep which includes three stages and REM (rapid eye movement) sleep.
NREM stage 1: a short period between wakefulness and sleep. Your breathing and brain waves slow down, and muscles (肌肉) may twitch (抽动). NREM stage 2: light sleep. You spend more time here than in any other stage. Your heart rate (心率) and breathing slow further, eye movements stop, and body temperature drops a little. You can be easily woken. NREM stage 3: deep sleep. Breathing and heart rate reach their lowest levels. Muscles are fully relaxed, and it is hard to wake you. Sleepwalking and sleeptalking mainly happen here.
REM sleep: After moving through NREM Stages 1, 2, 3 and then backward to Stage 1 (a 70~90 minute period), you enter REM sleep (a 5~15 minute period). During REM sleep, your eyes move rapidly from side to side. Most vivid (逼真的) dreams happen here, though dreams also happen in NREM sleep. This cycle repeats through the whole night.
21.In which NREM stage do people spend the most time
A.Stage 1. B.Stage 2. C.Stage 3.

As reported by National Geographic (《国家地理》), plastic pollution has become a terrible threat to ocean life. Every year, millions of tons of plastic waste enter the ocean, hurting sea animals and destroying their homes. Luckily, many young people are taking action to change this, and Boyan Slat is a shining example.
Boyan Slat, a Dutch environmentalist, first noticed the serious plastic pollution in the ocean when he was 16 years old. During a diving (潜水) trip, he saw more plastic bags and bottles than fish in the water. Shocked by what he saw, he decided to find a way to clean up the ocean.
At the age of 18, Boyan started a project called “The Ocean Cleanup”. He designed a special system that uses ocean currents (洋流) to collect plastic waste automatically (自动地). This system can catch plastic rubbish of all sizes, from small microplastics to large plastic bottles.
Over the years, his project has cleaned up thousands of tons of plastic from the ocean. He also calls on people around the world to reduce plastic use and protect ocean life. His story, reported by many foreign media, shows that young people can make a great difference in environmental protection.
Boyan’s effort tells us that everyone can do meaningful things for protecting our planet. As students, we can refuse single-use plastics and join environmental activities to help save the ocean and all its creatures.

Sensitive (敏感的) people are everywhere. Some have sensitive feet, or skin. Others may have a hard time laughing at their own mistakes. Perhaps you live with someone like this. But can you imagine living with a shameplant (含羞草)
Now, imagine that your hand is a green plant stem (茎), and each of your fingers is a leaf. Use your other hand to touch your leaf fingers. One at a time, close your five fingers, until you have made a fist. Quickly drop your hand down to your leg. Wait a little while, then slowly bring your hand back to its original (原来的) position.
When you move your fingers like the plant, you understand how it acts. And it’s just this kind of behavior that has earned the sensitive plant its name. Touch your fingers gently across the leaves of the sensitive plant, and the leaves at once fold up like tiny green fingers. The stems droop (低垂) as if ready to fall off the plant. About ten minutes later, the leaves reopen, and the stems rise again!
Shameplants are easy to grow inside your house. They simply need to get plenty of water and sunlight. But touching the plant too often can cause the plant to lose its leaves. A sensitive plant that loses many of its leaves may become unhealthy.
Imagine the fun you can have introducing a friend to your plant! Have your friend stand close to the plant to tell it a joke. Touch your plant with a finger, and watch your friend’s reaction (反应) as the plant seems to nod to say no. Be sure to tell your friend the true cause of the plant’s behavior later, though. You don’t want your friend to become overly sensitive about his jokes!
28.Which of the following shows the meaning of the underlined word in Paragraph Two
A. B. C.
29.Why does the writer ask readers to move their fingers like a plant
A.To do research on human fingers.
B.To teach people how to grow the plant.
C.To help readers understand the plant’s action.
30.How can we take good care of sensitive plants
A.By having a friend tell a joke.
B.By touching the plant too often.
C.By providing plenty of water and sunlight.
31.What is the writer’s attitude towards the joke in the last paragraph
A.Serious. B.Humorous. C.Unclear.

61.【答案】例文
Good morning, everyone.
Last week, our class did a survey about our favorite free-time activities. Here are the results. 30% of the students enjoy playing a sport, making it the most popular choice. 25% prefer reading, while 20% like watching TV. Another 10% love playing an instrument, and the remaining 15% choose other activities.
As for me, my favorite free-time activity is playing an instrument, especially the guitar. It not only brings me great joy but also helps me express my feelings. Thank you!
