第三部分:阅读理解(共15小题;每小题2.5分, 满分37.5分)
A
It was the winter when I taught in a small country school on the west coast of Vancouver Island. I had three grades of little people in my class, all beaming with the desire to learn all they could. One little boy named David from my grade one class wanted to learn more than all the others. His round swollen face would smile up at me, reminding me over and over of his disease — leukemia(白血病). More often than not, he would be missing from our classroom for rounds of treatments.
All of us were so pleased, then, to have that happy little boy with us for Christmas. We decorated our classroom, practised for the concert, and prepared Christmas stories to share.
Two days before school let out for the three-week Christmas holiday, I read a story to the class. It was the story of “The Littlest Angel”. This little angel had an awful time in heaven. He could not adjust to the routine. He was always in trouble, bumping into other angels, tripping over clouds or dropping his halo. Nothing seemed to make his time easier until one celestial day an archangel suggested that the little angel take some items with him. Just a few things to remind him of his good old days, which might be of some help.
As I read the story, a complete silence fell over the class as each child became more involved in the plight of the angel. Everyone was sympathetic for his misfortune, including David.
The following day during our regular show-and-tell time, holding a small wooden box, David began his sharing, “This is my first tooth,” he explained. “This is a ribbon from my sister’s hair, and this is my puppy’s collar. My dad gave me this old key. My mom says this big coin is for good luck.” Even before he told us the purpose of the box, we all seemed to know. Shiny tears went dot-to-dot down the faces of the other children. The rest of the day witnessed all of us carefully preparing items to fill David’s wooden box.
When the holidays came to a close, we all returned to our class — all except David. He had got a good chance and left for a big city to get better treatment, clutching the wooden box that held his hope and memories, and ours.

Some people can sit outside all summer long and not suffer from mosquito bites, while others turn into an itchy (痒的) mess. It’s mostly about the invisible chemical landscape of the air around us. Mosquitoes take advantage of this landscape by using specialized behaviors and sensory organs to find victims by following the tiny chemical marks their bodies leave behind; specifically, mosquitoes rely on carbon dioxide to find their hosts.
When we breathe, the carbon dioxide from our lungs doesn’t immediately mix with the air, but temporarily stays in plumes (团状气流) that mosquitoes follow. “Mosquitoes start locating the plumes of carbon dioxide and keep flying upwind as they sense higher concentrations than the normal atmosphere.” said Joop van Loon, a scientist who studies insects. Using carbon dioxide, mosquitoes can lock onto targets from up to 50 meters away.
Things start getting personal when mosquitoes get about 1 meter away from a group of potential targets. At a short distance, mosquitoes take into account a lot of factors that vary from person to person, including skin temperature, the presence of water vapor (水蒸气) and color. Scientists think the most important factor mosquitoes rely on when choosing one person over another is the chemical compounds (化合物) produced by the colonies of microbes (微生物菌落) that live on our skin.
These chemical smells are complex, including upward of 300 different compounds, and they vary from person to person based on genetics and environments. “If you compare a father and daughter in the same household, there can be differences.” said Jeff Riffell, an associate professor of biology who has studied mosquito attraction. For instance, men with a greater diversity of skin microbes tended to get fewer mosquito bites than men with less diverse skin microbes did, a study found.
Tiny differences in the elements of these chemical smells can account for big differences in how many bites a person gets. The elements of those microbial colonies can also vary over time in the same individual, particularly if that person is sick, Riffell said. We don’t have much control over the microbiomes on our skin, but Riffell did offer some advice based on his research— mosquitoes love the color black, so consider wearing something lighter at your next cookout.
61. What do we know about mosquitoes before they bite
A. They are affected by wind speed.
B. They tend to fly against the wind.
C. They locate their victims through their body sizes
D. They target their victims by using carbon dioxide.
62. What is the key factor that mosquitoes rely on to choose who to bite
A. Victims’ skin body temperature.
B. The water vapor they sensed in the air.
C. The chemicals left on skin by microbes.
D. The color of victims’ clothes.
63. Who is more likely to be bitten by mosquitoes
A. People in light-colored clothes.
B. Men with a greater variety of skin microbes.
C. Women in general.
D. Men with a smaller variety of skin microbes.
64. What can we infer from the last paragraph
A. Mosquitoes do not bite people who are sick.
B. Light-colored clothing is less likely to attract mosquitoes.
C. Mosquitoes do not bite people who are much older.
D. We should cover our bodies to avoid mosquitoes outdoors.
65. Which question does the passage mainly answer
A. Why do some people attract mosquitoes
B. Why are there mosquitoes in the world
C. How to avoid mosquito bites
D. What kind of smell attracts mosquitoes the most
C
“I write to find out what I’m thinking,” wrote the great American journalist John Dos Passos. Anyone engaged in writing understands this truth: the act of writing transforms half-formed ideas into precise, logical thought. What sounds coherent (有条理的) when spoken often appears weak and illogical when committed to paper.
A recent MIT study provides convincing scientific evidence for this claim. Researchers used wearable brain scanners to compare students who wrote essays independently with those using AI assistance. The findings were clear: AI-assisted writers “consistently underperformed at brain, verbal, and behavioural levels”. They demonstrated that we need to write in order to think deeply.
This research emerges at a critical historical moment for literacy. Childhood reading has reached record lows, with nearly half of British adults not reading a single book last year. Adult literacy is declining or making no progress across most OECD countries. Notably, average IQs have begun to decline since the 1980s, along with reasoning and problem-solving abilities — a trend that is unlikely to be random.
Walter Ong’s influential work “Orality and Literacy” clarifies why writing is essential. He argued that literacy enabled Ancient Greece’s intellectual revolution. Oral cultures must “think memorable thoughts”, relying on rhyme, emotion, and cliché (陈词滥调) to preserve knowledge. Writing, by contrast, allows for precise, complex statements that can be examined, reviewed, and developed into logical arguments.
In our digital age, no technology has surpassed the complicated architecture of the book. While the internet offers fragmented (碎片化的) information, books provide rich context and sustained logical connections. Reading is an active process that demands engagement and concentration — it is essentially thinking in dialogue with the text.
As our culture becomes increasingly dominated by short-form videos and attention-fragmenting content, we risk losing the capacity for complex reasoning. Reading and writing form the foundation of serious thought — a habit that unites history’s greatest minds. Before we yield our cognitive development to screens and algorithms, we must carefully consider what we might be sacrificing.
66. What does writing primarily enable us to do
A. Liberate personal thoughts effectively.
B. Organize fragmented thoughts clearly.
C. Develop strong communication skills.
D. Recall information more accurately.
67. How did AI assistance affect writing according to the MIT study
A. It led to poorer results.
B. It improved writing speed.
C. It enhanced creative expression.
D. It had little impact on brain activity.
68. Why is writing essential for developing logical arguments
A. It relies on rhyme and emotion.
B. It is easier to remember and repeat.
C. It requires concentration and engagement.
D. It enables accurate and revisable statements.
69. What is the author’s attitude towards digital media’s effect on deep thinking
A. Optimistic. B. Indifferent. C. Objective. D. Concerned.
70. Which of the following is the best title for the text
A. The Decline of Modern Literacy
B. The Benefits of Reading in a Digital Age
C. Writing: The Foundation of Deep Thinking
D. Thinking: The Capacity for Complex Reasoning

阅读短文,并按照题目要求用英语回答问题。
At the age of 15, Roxanne Black-Weisheit was told that she got lupus 狼疮, a systemic autoimmune (自身免疫) disease that occurs when one's body's immune system attacks the healthy tissues and organs. Shortly after, Black-Weisheit desperately sought emotional support. She wanted a friend who could truly understand her situation, and she figured there were others who needed this, too.
So, during her first year of college, she created Friends' Health Connection(FHC), a non-profit organization that helped people with similar health conditions.
As she was starting FHC, lupus was destroying her kidney function. During her senior year of college, she had her first kidney transplant and 13 years later, she had her second one. Through it all, she didn't forgo FHC. She'd even transformed her hospital room into an "office" and worked in her hospital bed.
After graduation, she secured enough funding to continue growing her organization, and it became her full-time job. But, unfortunately, lupus and kidney transplants weren't the end of Black-Weisheit's health issues. Five years ago, at 42, she had lymphoma.
Black-Weisheit's new disease left her extremely weak and tired, and she knew she had to make a choice about FHC. "Since my time and energy were limited and my future was uncertain, the board and I decided to close our office. I wanted to devote all my energy to keeping my family life as normal as possible," she explained.
Her career didn't end there, though. When she started feeling better, she felt the urge to start working again. Using her experience from FHC, she started a new company — Schedule , which helps other companies schedule different types of speakers for their events.
This is now Black-Weisheit's current job. But she missed running her own non-profit organization, so she started trying to figure out how to bring back FHC.
And, recently, she received some great news: A past FHC donor would provide her with a grant to get the organization running again.
71. What did Black-Weisheit realize shortly after being told that she got lupus (no more than 8 words)

书面表达参考范文(20分)
Dear fellows,
Our school’s English forum themed “Design Our Future Earth” has sparked a lot of discussion.
Our class has designed a reasonable land distribution plan: forests account for 50%, farmland 20%, residential area 20% and desert only 10%. At present, excessive deforestation and over-cultivation lead to shrinking forests and expanding deserts, worsening global environment.
This design carries great environmental meaning. More forests can absorb carbon dioxide, conserve water and prevent desertification. Proper farmland ensures food supply while reasonable residential areas avoid blind land exploitation.
If we carry out the plan, the earth will enjoy balanced ecology. Humans can live harmoniously with nature and realize long-term sustainable development.
Thanks for your reading.
