Students will face the pre-exam anxiety in the exam season. But in a growing tradition, universities and students’ unions are making increasingly great efforts to deal with stress.
Screaming: This is a tradition for students in the United States. Harvard, Northwestern and Columbia all have lessons of stress bursting screaming. At Northwestern in Illinois, students scream on the Sunday evening before finals week. At Wisconsin, the university headmaster took part in the screaming and social media even invited people to join in.
Puppies (幼犬): Partnering with a local guide dog charity in the UK, the University of Central Lancashire has a “puppy room” for stressed students. Students made a reservation in advance and were given 10 minutes to 15 minutes to play with the dogs, in exchange for a 1.50 minimum donation to the charity. “We are delighted to raise awareness of the Guide Dogs charity as well as to help students through a stressful period.” said a students’ union representative.
Sleep contest: Even sleeping has to be competitive in South Korea. At Duksung Women’s University in Seoul, students are dealing with exam stress by a competition to see which students can fall into the deepest sleep. They have blankets, pillows and eye masks, in an event sending the message that getting a good night’s sleep is an important part of relaxing.
Small pigs: Students at the University of Exeter in the UK are being offered small pigs to help ease their exam fears. A small pig helps those who lack academic confidence. The student newspaper promises that students will be very excited while playing with pigs.
21. What is a traditional way for American students to deal with stress
A. Crying out. B. Raising pigs. C. Having a break. D. Holding puppies.
22. What do the students need to do to use a “puppy room”
A. Buy a ticket. B. Train guide dogs. C. Book ahead of time. D. Raise money for the charity.
23. Which university suggests “deep sleep” to reduce pre-exam stress
A. The University of Central Lancashire. B. Duksung Women’s University.
C. The University of Exeter. D. Harvard University.

I’ve always dreamed of traveling the world, but like so many others, I ended up on choosing to follow a career path instead of following my dream. I founded a company that I loved. Everything changed when I broke up with my girlfriend.
Sadness pushed me to my breaking point. It took me around three months after the break-up to finally make the decision to leave and travel the world. It was one of the hardest things I had ever done, but it was also the best choice I ever made in my life.
To this day, I still remember the day I called my parents, who are also deaf, to discuss my plans to travel the world. Both of my parents gave me their full support. They told me to go ahead and helped book my flight to Thailand.
I chose Southeast Asia as my first, and I was fortunate to spend it with my good friend Mic Dolan. We spent about six weeks backpacking through Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia, having fun with tiger cubs and riding elephants. We paused long enough in Thailand to get certified in scuba diving, which turned out to be my favorite part. After that trip, I flew to Europe to meet another friend, John Hathaway. In this part of the journey, John and I turned our travels into a full-time adventure and we shared all of our stories on the Vlog platform Seek The World.
Showing the people that I met-and my readers who I am makes me more confident with what I want for my life. After meeting many deaf people. I realized that I have done one thing that everybody wants to do: I’m reaching my dream by breaking down communication barrier (障碍) and overcoming different challenges. I always find a way. And I always make things happen. I didn’t do that in the past; I’m grateful that I do now.
24. What did the author do after finally deciding to travel the world
A. Breaking up with his girlfriend. B. Establishing his own company.
C. Sharing his plan with his parents. D. Thinking about what will happen.
25. What was the author’s most beloved experience in Southeast Asia
A. Playing with animals. B. Diving with his friend.
C. Filming for his Vlog. D. Backpacking through countries.
26. What is the fifth paragraph mainly about
A. The significance of this journey. B. The problems of hearing loss.
C. The advantages of sharing stories. D. The methods of making things happen.
27. How did the author feel at the end of his journey
A. Honored. B. Surprised. C. Interested. D. Satisfied.

What makes preschoolers eat their vegetables Raise their hand Wait their turn “Because I say so” is a comment that parents often repeat. But when it comes to getting kids to behave, a recent study by Duke University researchers suggests that the voice of adult authority isn’t the only thing that matters. Around age three, fitting in with the group starts to count big too.
To understand what cause preschoolers to fall in line, the researchers conducted a test in a lab, where they invited 3.5-year-olds to help set up for a pretend tea party. Each of the 104 children was given a blue sticker (贴纸) to wear at the start of the study, and told that the people with that color sticker were part of the same team. Next the researchers watched as the children decided among different kinds of teas, snacks, cups and plates for the tea party, first on their own and then after listening to the choices of other team members.
Sometimes the other team members considered their choice as a matter of personal preference (“For my tea party today, I feel like using this snack.”) Other times they presented it as a need shared by the whole group. (“For our tea parties today, we always use this kind of snack.”)
After listening to the choices of others, most of the time the children stuck with their first choice. In other words, children who had said they liked using, say, the cookie finally picked the cookie no matter what the other person said they were using. But 23% of the time the children changed their choice to accept someone else’s. And when they did, they were more likely to go along with the other person when a choice was presented as a group need rather than just a personal preference. The finding held up even when the other person was another child, not an adult.
28. What’s the recent study mainly about
A. Parent training. B. Social rules. C. Child behavior. D. Eating habits.
29. What does the underlined word “fall in line” refer to in paragraph 2
A. Stand in a row. B. Attend a party. C. Listen to the parents. D. Join the group.
30. What made children accept others’ choice
A. The common need. B. The advice of adults.
C. The delicious cookie. D. The individual preference.
31. Which of the following is suitable title for the text
A. Adults Are Losing Their Authority
B. 3-Year-Olds Want to Fit into the Group
C. Children Are Not Born Knowing What To Do
D. Kids Are Acting Out of a Sense of Copying Adults
D
Recently, the topic of “school subject colors” has become a heated debate. Everyone seems to have strong opinions about which colors are associated (关联) with which school subjects, even if they graduated from school a long time ago. People associate school subjects with colors subconsciously (下意识地). There could be lots of reasons for these color associations, but the most common explanation is that they’re based on something people learned as a kid. At many schools, kids were asked to use color folders to keep their notes and homework in. Many people got so used to using the same colors over and again that they still associate those colors with subjects to this day.
Of course, the color of each subject is different depending on the school kids went to and the teachers they had as well as their personal preferences. For that reason, not everyone agrees on colors.
However, a few associations are more widely accepted. For example, science, which nearly everyone thinks is green, does not spark much debate. It includes classes like chemistry, biology, and physics and they are closely related to nature. When people think of nature and the environment, green is a key color because so many things in nature are green.
People could also choose colors based on how the subjects make them feel. For example, if a subject makes them happy and excited, they might call it yellow. However, if a subject makes them angry, they could associate it with red. As for blue, if a subject is fun and relaxing, then it’s likely that blue comes to mind first.
There are no right or wrong answers for the school subject debate. While the exact reason varies from person to person, it’s a fascinating topic to focus on. It goes to show that just because we see something one way and someone else sees it another way doesn’t mean it’s wrong. It’s just two different viewpoints.
32. Where do most people think their color associations come from
A. Their personal preferences. B. Their grades of each subject.
C. Their school experience as a kid. D. Their teachers’ teaching methods.
33. What does the underlined word “spark” in paragraph 3 most likely mean
A. Cause. B. Reduce. C. Flash. D. End.
34. Which color will a relaxing subject probably remind people of
A. Yellow. B. Red. C. Green. D. Blue.
35. What is the best title of the passage
A. Who Likes Associating Colors to School Subjects
B. How People Associate Colors with School Subjects
C. Why People Debate over Associations with Subjects
D. What Colors People Associate with Certain Subjects

The Real Champion
I like running and for me, success was winning every race I participated in. My classmates called me Incredible Dash. One day, there was a sporting event planned in my school. Well-prepared for the running competition, I took part in almost every race there was. A large number of people gathered to watch. Crowds were eager to see the running race because it was the most exciting event. When the race for 400m started, all the boys ran fast. Unsurprisingly, I finished first in the race and received a big round of applause. While it was tiring, I felt proud and was on top of my world.
In the race of 200m, I ran full speed and finished the race first once again. The crowd gave thundering claps to me. I jumped all over the ground and was not bothered to give handshakes to my fellow racers.
Then came the race for 100m. Discouraged by the previous races, most boys quit the race except one, a boy named Matt who was invited as an honorary runner. Matt was born with low vision but he was a determined participant of many sports. The judge came to Matt and explained the situation, asking whether he would like to quit too. I, wild with joy, thought I would win the champion without effort. However, to everyone’s surprise, Matt decided to complete the event. I sniffed (嗤之以鼻), “It is a waste of time. I bet he even doesn’t figure out where the finish line is.”
The race of two started. On hearing the starting gun, both Matt and I ran to the finish line. Soon I sped up and left Matt behind. Just 30 meters before arriving at the finish line, I was expecting to receive the applause for the third time when I suffered a leg spasm (抽筋).
I fell hard to the ground.
Arm by arm, we walked towards the finish line.

第一节 应用文范文
Dear Mr Smith,
My name is Li Hua, aged sixteen. I’m easy-going and always ready to help others. In my spare time, I love reading and playing basketball. Reading broadens my horizons while sports keep me energetic. My biggest dream is to become an excellent doctor to save more people’s lives. I’m glad to join this new class and hope we can get along well.
第二节 读后续写参考范文
I fell hard to the ground. Sharp pain spread across my leg and I could hardly stand up. Watching Matt running closer little by little, I felt helpless and ashamed of my earlier rude words. Unexpectedly, Matt slowed down and stopped beside me instead of rushing to the finishing line. He bent down and asked patiently about my injury. Without hesitation, he decided to help me finish the race together.
Arm by arm, we walked towards the finish line. All the audience stood up and burst into warm applause. Though neither of us got the first prize, I realized the real champion was not the fastest runner, but the one with kindness and sportsmanship. That day taught me winning is never everything, and respect and kindness matter more in competition.
