Sunday, April 14
Yesterday we walked around Likeng Village. It was the third day of our family trip around Wuyuan, one of the most-loved places for traveling.
It rained all day long, but we still enjoyed our day. As the rain came down, we walked along a path next to a clear river. Everything was washed clean and the wet weather made the air so fresh. The path led us to the top of a hill. A large open space there offered us a wonderful view of the village. We saw some white houses hidden in the mist (雾). The rain stopped as we went down to the village. We then tried a local restaurant. There was not even a menu, but all the dishes were delicious! What a surprise! And I liked the milky white fish soup best. The vegetables and fruits tasted so good. These were grown by the villagers themselves.

My uncle has a big strawberry field. Many people like going there to pick strawberries. For them, eating strawberries isn’t important. Doing things with their family is happy.
Last summer, there was a construction site (建筑工地) near the strawberry field. Some workers often came to my uncle’s yard in their free time. They chatted with each other. But they never went into the strawberry field.

Many Chinese schools offer after-school activities about Chinese culture to help students learn about it. For example, the ancient poetry recitation (诗歌朗诵) group is very popular these days. Some schools even organize (组织) ancient poetry recitation competitions. Students read the ancient poems they like and talk about why they like them so much.
Schools usually organize after-school activities once a week. A school in Henan Province holds a paper-cutting activity every week. Paper-cutting is called jianzhi in Chinese. It is a traditional craft (手工艺) in China, and it helps people to learn about Chinese culture. Paper-cutting is easy to do. The only tool we need is a pair of scissors (剪刀). Paper-cutting artworks are often used at special times, like during the Spring Festival or at weddings (婚礼). During the Mid-Autumn Festival, students hang their paper-cutting artworks on classroom windows, turning schools into mini culture museums.
Paper- cutting activities in school not only help students learn about Chinese culture but also allow them to relax. Students can take a break from their busy school work. Wang from Class 5 said, “These activities are really fun. I always look forward to them.” Li from Class 4 said, “Paper-cutting activities help us learn Chinese culture. Before, we could only learn that from books, but now we can feel it with our hands.”
