时间状语从句是一种用于修饰主句的动作或状态的状语从句，表示主句动作发生的时间背景。
通常由从属连词引导，位置灵活，可置于主句前、中、后。若从句位于主句前，需用逗号与主句隔开。

before：在……之前
表示主句动作先于从句动作发生。
Please turn off the lights before you leave.
离开前请关灯。

after：在……之后
表示从句动作先于主句动作发生。
I went to bed after I finished my homework.
完成作业后，我去睡觉了。
连词及用法

when：当……时
when引导的时间状语从句的动作既可以和主句的动作同时发生，又可以在主句的动作之前或之后发生。它的谓语动词既可以用延续性动词，也可以用非延续性动词。
从句动作和主句动作同时发生。
He smiled when he saw me.
他看见我时，笑了。
从句动作先于主句动作发生。
When the rain stopped, we went outside to play.
雨停后，我们出去玩了。
主句动作先于从句动作发生。
I had been waiting for an hour when he finally
showed up. 我等了一个小时，他才终于露面。
表达“正……突然……”：
was/were doing…when…did…
I was watching TV when the light went out.
我正在看电视，突然灯熄了。

while：当……时；在……期间
强调主句动作和从句动作同时进行，从句谓语常用延续性动词。
While my mother was cooking, I was setting
the table.
妈妈做饭期间，我在摆桌子。
While I was reading, my cat slept on the sofa.
我看书的时候，我的猫在沙发上睡觉。

since：自从……以来
表示从过去某个时间点开始，一直持续到说话时刻（或到过去某个时刻）。主句通常用现在完成时或过去完成时，从句通常用一般过去时。
I have lived here since I was born.
自从出生以来，我一直住在这里。
I had not seen him since we left high school.
自从我们高中毕业后，我就再没见过他。

until/till：直到……为止
表示主句动作持续到从句动作发生时才停止，两者通常可以互换，但句首一般用until，不用till。
肯定句 + until/till…（做某事直到……）
He waited until/till the rain stopped.
他一直等到雨停。
not…until/till…（直到……才……），此时主句谓语是go, leave, arrive, come等瞬间性动词。
I didn’t go to bed until/till I finished my
storybook. 直到读完故事书我才去睡觉。

as soon as：一……就……
表示主句的动作在从句动作发生后立刻发生。
we will start the meeting as soon as he arrives.他一到，我们就开会 。
As soon as she entered the room, she knew there was something wrong.
她一踏进房间就知道有什么不对劲了。
whenever：每当；无论何时
表示“每次发生某事，主句动作就发生”，相当于 every time/each time。
Whenever she comes, she brings a friend.
她每次来都带着个朋友。
表示“在任何时间，主句动作都不受影响”，此时和 no matter when完全可互换。
You can call me whenever you need help.
无论你何时需要帮助，都可以打电话给我。
