高二级 英语试卷
第一部分 听力(略)
第二部分 阅读(共两节,满分50分)
第一节(共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
People have been recycling household waste for roughly two decades. Nevertheless, some uncertainty exists regarding which items are recyclable and which are not. As technology progresses, an increasing number of items have become recyclable
COFFEE CAPSULES
On average, Australians are using more than three million coffee capsules per day and about 1.5 million households have automatic coffee machines. While the capsules are disastrous for the environment, they can still be recycled. Nespresso offers a free return program and has drop-off locations, allowing you to bring the capsules to Nespresso stores for disposal (处理).
LIGHT BULBS
Instead of discarding light bulbs in the trash, some local governments run recycling centers, where you can place such items. If you regularly recycle household glass, kindly remember to wash the glass and remove any lids beforehand.
PIZZA BOXES
Normally pizza boxes don’t make it into recycling because they’re covered in grease (油脂) and leftover bits of cheese. When a pizza box is too oily, it won’t be taken to a recycling processing plant. If possible, remove as much of the leftovers as you can before recycling. If the pizza box can’t be recycled, tear off the lid which can still be recycled.
HOUSEHOLD BATTERIES
Household batteries can also be recycled. Batteries that do end up in landfills can cause a serious problem to the environment as they can release poisonous chemicals into the soil which are harmful to both humans and animals. Button-cell batteries, which are used in hearing aids and watches, can also be recycled.
1. How does Nespresso help with the coffee capsules
A. By offering good coffee for free.
B. By collecting capsules for recycling.
C. By exchanging coffee machines regularly.
D. By warning people of the harm of coffee capsules.
2. What do people need to do first to recycle pizza boxes
A. Wash them many times.
B. Drop off boxes at the pizza shop.
C. Take them to the local government.
D. Clear the leftovers as much as possible.
3. In which section of a magazine can we read the text
A. Health.
B. Entertainment.
C. Environment.
D. Culture.
B
Troubled by scoliosis (脊柱侧弯) since the age of four — a condition that causes the spine (脊柱) to curve abnormally and affects roughly 100, 000 children in America each year — Anne had to wear a rigid plastic brace (支架) 19 to 22 hours a day to prevent the curve from progressing as she grew.
Most of her classmates were kind. Still, Anne often felt set apart. In quiet moments, a sense of loneliness would wash over her — she was tired of feeling different from everyone else.
That year, the Easter Bunny brought her a basket with a special doll. The doll, Chelsea, is Barbie’s sister, and she, too, wore a back brace for scoliosis. “She’s just like me!” Anne cried to her mother, Nicole, who smiled as the little girl examined every detail, right down to the doll’s curved spine. Anne played with Chelsea every day, bringing the doll everywhere. She felt a sisterhood with another girl like her.
Weeks later, Anne voiced a heartfelt wish, “Mom, I wish all girls with scoliosis could have this doll so they don’t ever feel alone either.” Nicole saw renewed determination in her daughter’s eyes and helped turn the idea into a family mission. Anne’s twin brother and her dad all jumped in to help. They launched their efforts by starting a lemonade stand during a neighborhood sale, and then created a GoFundMe page on the Internet.
After a local news station featured their story, the doll’s maker stepped in to support the cause, supplying all the dolls they needed. What began as a goal to donate 50 dolls quickly grew beyond expectation. Now 11 years old, Anne and her family have donated more than 870 Chelsea dolls to hospitals nationwide, bringing smiles to countless children.
“Even if you feel alone, you’re not,” she shared. “Everybody has something. It’s what you do with it that matters — so choose to help others to be strong in their journey.”
4. What troubled Anne with scoliosis
A. Her classmates didn’t talk to her.
B. She felt like an outsider.
C. She couldn’t attend school like others.
D. Her curving spine made her tired.
5. Why did Anne love the Chelsea doll so much
A. It was rare and delicate.
B. It looked like her lovely sister.
C. It mirrored her situation.
D. It was a gift given by her sister.
6. How did Anne’s family first raise money
A. By selling lemonade online.
B. By applying for a webpage.
C. By organizing a neighborhood sale.
D. By running a drink stand.
7. What message did Anne want to convey through the dolls
A. Be the light you want to see.
B. Charity begins at home.
C. Fortune favors the brave.
D. Stay positive when facing difficulty.
C
In a study published in Nature Communications, researchers from the University of Zurich told 50 people they’d be receiving about $100. Half of the people were asked to spend that money on themselves, and half were asked to spend it on someone they knew. Before giving out any money, the researchers brought everyone into the lab and asked them to think about a friend they’d like to give a gift to and how much they would spend. They then performed functional MRI scans (扫描) to get to know activity in three parts of the brain related to social behavior, generosity, happiness and decision-making.
Their choices — and their brain activity — seemed to depend on how they had promised to spend the money earlier. Those who had promised to spend money on other people tended to make more generous decisions throughout the experiment (实验). They also had more interaction between the parts of the brain related to altruism (无私) and happiness, and they reported higher levels of happiness after the experiment was over.
Another piece of good news was that planning to give away just a little bit of money had the same effects on happiness as giving away a lot. “At least in our study, the amount spent did not matter,” says lead author Philippe Tobler. “Even little things have a beneficial effect — like bringing coffee to one’s workmates.”
It’s not yet clear how long these warm feelings last after being generous. But studies have shown that older people who are generous tend to have better health, says Tobler, and other research has suggested that spending money on others can be effective at lowering blood pressure. “Moreover, there is a positive connection between helping others and life expectancy (预期寿命),” he adds.
Next time you think that the best way to make yourself feel better is to buy yourself a treat, consider that the opposite is likely true. “It is worth giving it a try, even if you think it would not work,” Tobler says. “Repeated practice is probably needed so that giving becomes second nature.”
8. What did the researchers find out about those promising to spend money on other people
A. They were much happier.
B. They had less brain activity.
C. They were slower at making decisions.
D. They experienced higher levels of stress.
9. What does Tobler want to explain by mentioning bringing coffee to workmates
A. It isn’t hard to behave generously.
B. Being generous will pay off in the end.
C. The amount of generosity did not matter.
D. Small acts of generosity can be seen everywhere.
10. What does paragraph 4 mainly tell us
A. Ways to show generosity.
B. Health benefits of being generous.
C. Reasons for performing acts of generosity.
D. Influences generous people have on others.
11. What does Tobler suggest people do in the last paragraph
A. Perform something good even if it may have a bad result.
B. Don’t expect anything in return when giving.
C. Don’t believe happiness depends on a good treat.
D. Practice giving and make it a habit.

Carpenter bees (木蜂) are among the most fascinating insects, yet they are often misunderstood. With their large size and black-and-yellow lines, they may seem frightening. However, they play a crucial role in pollination (授粉) and maintaining ecosystem health, influencing both plant reproduction and the entire food chain as pollinators.
Across different ecosystems, carpenter bees are vital for pollinating various plant species. In forests, for example, they help plants like coneflowers, black-eyed susans, and butterfly milkweed reproduce. These flowers depend on carpenter bee pollination to produce seeds, which ensures the continuous growth and diversity of forest plants.
Carpenter bees also contribute significantly to human interests while upholding ecosystem health. Their pollination service benefits many plants essential for food production — studies show they pollinate over 40% of crops, including apples, blueberries, and cucumbers. Additionally, they produce small amounts of honey, though far less than honeybees, their social relatives.
Despite these benefits, carpenter bee populations face serious threats. Habitat loss is a major issue: they need specific nesting sites with suitable soil, but urbanization and deforestation have mainly reduced available habitats, endangering their survival. Pesticide (杀虫剂) use is another threat, as many pesticides harm or kill them, damaging their life cycle.
To manage carpenter bee populations effectively, conservation efforts must balance these beneficial insects’ protection and human interests. A key strategy is creating and restoring habitats for them. Since they nest in existing tree or building holes, you can drill a quarter-inch hole in untreated wood to provide nesting sites. Protecting existing habitats is just as effective as creating new ones, as shown by successful conservation projects. Preserving old-growth forests with mature trees, for instance, lets carpenter bees nest in nature. Supporting organizations that protect and restore such ecosystems helps safeguard the long-term health of local carpenter bee populations.
12. Why are carpenter bees important in forests
A. They produce much honey.
B. They help maintain plant diversity.
C. They help improve soil conditions.
D. They contribute to crop production.
13. What can be inferred about threats to carpenter bees
A. Human activities largely cause habitat loss.
B. Natural enemies are the only threat to them.
C. Honeybees compete with them severely.
D. They can’t find any natural nesting places.
14. What can individuals do to protect carpenter bees
A. Using more pesticides for other insects.
B. Planting more flowers in urban areas.
C. Replacing old forests with fast-growing trees.
D. Making small holes in specific wood for nests.
15. What can be a suitable title for the text
A. Carpenter Bees: Dangers to Humans
B. Carpenter Bees: Differences from Honeybees
C. Carpenter Bees: Values and Conservation
D. Carpenter Bees: Misunderstandings about Looks

Cindy had always been my most cherished friend. In my eyes, she was an extraordinary dog full of unique charm, yet my mother labeled her a troublemaker. When I was just eleven years old, I first laid eyes on that lovely tiny pup with curly hair and it was love at first sight.
Cindy wasn’t just cute; she was incredibly smart too. I took great delight in teaching her all sorts of tricks. Whenever I placed a stick or a small piece of carrot close to her mouth and uttered the word “chew”, she’d dutifully obey. She loved going for walks with my friends and me. She danced around us as if listening to our conversations about school and clothes and movies we’d seen. I’d tell her about my friends, the boys I liked, the test I was about to take in History. Cindy would sit and stare at me as if listening to everything I told her.
Then, out of the blue, my uncle, my mother’s younger brother found himself in a tough situation and came to stay with us. He and his wife were struggling financially after he lost his job. They slept in my room and I slept on the couch. My mom didn’t want Cindy’s curly fur all over the living room furniture, so she had to sleep in the garage (车库). Instead of being beside my bed as usual, she was out of my aunt and uncle’s way. I resented (愤恨) their presence and kept Cindy outside with me as much as possible.
But one afternoon, when I went to get her from the back yard, she wasn’t there. The back gate was partly open. I looked everywhere around the neighborhood knocking on doors and asking everyone if they’d seen her. I called her name over and over, that name which had always summoned (召唤) my faithful friend. But this time, the silence was deafening.
“Sorry,” my uncle said. “I guess when I went through the gate to check something in my car, I forgot to close it completely.” I didn’t want his apology. I cried and searched.

My uncle felt bad and offered to buy another dog to keep me company. However, I refused firmly because Cindy was irreplaceable to me. Every day after school, I wandered around the neighbourhood searching for her, hoping to catch sight of her curly hair. My uncle also spared spare time to look for Cindy after work, feeling guilty for leaving the gate open. Days passed yet there was no news of the lovely dog, and I fell into great sadness.
Then one morning, two days later, my uncle was home with Cindy in his arms. Wild with joy, I rushed over and hugged my dog tightly. It turned out Cindy wandered into a distant community and was taken in by a kind old lady. After posting missing-dog notices everywhere, my uncle got the address and brought her back. From then on, Mom allowed Cindy to sleep indoors, and the whole family cherished the lovely pet more than ever.
