What a day! That morning. I was worried that no one would talk to me. But I was wrong. I didn't feel awkward or frightened at all on the first day of senior high school. I miss my friends from junior high school, but I believe I will make new friends here and that there's a lot to explore at senior high school. I feel much more confident than I felt that morning.
My name is Adam and I'm a freshman at senior high school. Going from junior high school to senior high school is a really big challenge. The first week was a little confusing.
First, I had to think very carefully about which courses I wanted to take. The school adviser helped me choose the suitable ones from maths, English, chemistry, world history, Chinese and so on. I know that Chinese is a very difficult language, but I hope to be fluent when I graduate. My adviser recommended (推荐) that I should sign up for advanced literature because I like English and I'm good at it.
I had to choose extra-curricular activities, too. I tried to join the school football team, but the coach told me that I didn't play well enough. Obviously, I was unhappy, but I won't quit. I'll find a way to improve on my own so that I can make the team next year. I joined a volunteer club instead. Every Wednesday, we work at a soup kitchen and hand out food to homeless people in the community.
I know I'll have to study harder as a senior high student and get used to being responsible for a lot more. I'm a bit worried about keeping up with the other students in my advanced courses, and it'll be quite difficult to get used to all the homework. Still, I'm happy to be here. Studying hard isn't always fun, but I'll be well prepared for university or whatever else comes in the future.

C. He felt very frightened. D. He felt more stressful
25. Which course did the school adviser recommend the author to take

C. Adam handed out food to the students in the school.

27. Which of the following words can describe Adam
A. Positive. B. Negative. C. Dependent. D. Impatient
C
Have you ever stayed up late If so, you know not getting enough sleep can make you tired and grumpy. Not getting enough sleep can also make it harder to think clearly the next day. So it is necessary for us to have enough sleep.
Sleep scientists have long known that getting a good night's sleep is very important. It helps kids be able to do their best during the day.
A recently study shows that sleep helps improve problem-solving skills and creative thinking. For the study, two groups of students were asked to answer a math problem. The group that slept eight hours solved the problem correctly more often than the group that didn't get enough sleep.
While you sleep at night, your brain is busy with its "homework". It sorts out all the information that you get in the day. Getting enough sleep each night can improve your thinking ability. That will surely help you do your best at school. Scientists say, in return, it can lead to better grades.

Memory, they say, is a matter of practice and exercise. If you have the wish and really make a conscious (自觉的) effort, then you can quite easily improve your ability to remember things. But even if you are successful, there are times when your memory seems to play tricks on you.
Sometimes you remember things that really did not happen. One morning last week, for example, I got up and found that I had left the front door unlocked all night, yet I clearly remember locking it carefully the night before.
Memory "tricks" work the other way as well. Once in a while you remember not doing something, and then find out that you did. One day last month, for example, I was sitting in a barber(理发师) shop waiting for my turn to get a haircut, and suddenly I realized that I had got a haircut two days before at the barber shop across the street from my office.
We always seem to find something funny and amusing in incidents caused by people's forgetfulness or absent-mindedness. Stories about absent-minded professors have been told for years, and we never get tired of hearing new ones. Unfortunately, however, absent-mindedness is not always funny. There are times when "tricks" of our memory can cause us great trouble.
32. If we want to have a good memory, ______.
A. we should force ourselves to remember things
B. we should make a conscious effort of practice and exercise
C. we should never stop learning
D. we should try hard to remember things
33. Which of the following statements is true according to the passage
A. One night the writer forgot to lock the front door.
B. One night the writer forgot having locked the front door.
C. The writer remembered to lock the door.
D. The writer remembered unlocking the front door.
34. Why did the author mention the example in paragraph 3
A. to explain memory tricks
B. to tell readers what had happened to him
C. to complain the barber was forgetful
D. to compare the two barbershops
35. The best title for this passage is ______.
A. How to Get a Good Memory
B. "Tricks"of Memory
C. Forgetfulness and Absent-mindedness is Dangerous
D. Get Rid of Absent-mindedness
