Whenever I think of Ms. Anita Moore, I always smile and feel fortunate to have her as my teacher. All of her students knew she loved being a teacher. Her classroom was always a safe place where we were encouraged to share, think, and express ourselves.
One of the memories that always stuck with me was a reading class when Ms. Moore read a story aloud and started to cry. The main character in the story reminded her of her grandmother. She paused to share about her relationship with her grandmother and made the connection as to how that relationship helped understand the story.
Ms. Moore tried her best to make a connection with each student in her classroom. She knew what we liked and used that information to bring our interests into the classroom. That is one of the reasons why Ms. Moore will always be my favorite teacher. She brought various types of books to our classroom and allowed us to take them home. It was she that helped inspire my love for reading gradually.
Ms. Moore also went beyond classroom instruction. She decided that our school should have a choir and that all of her students should audition (试演). Without her, I would never have taken part in this type of after-school activity. Once it was time for the annual 5th grade weekend camping trip, my parents refused to let me attend. Ms. Moore came to my home to persuade (说服) them. Although I was still not allowed to go, it was amazing to me that a teacher would visit my home to help me be part of a school tradition with my classmates.
Ms. Moore was a wonderful example of a caring teacher. From her, I’ve learned to make connections with students and look for ways to help them learn and feel successful.
24. Why did Ms. Moore cry in the reading class
A. The story was too sad.
B. She was moved by the students.
C. She thought of her own grandmother.
D. She helped her students understand the story.
25. What can we learn about Ms. Moore from Paragraph 3
A. She was good at writing books.
B. She inspired the writer’s love for reading.
C. She donated many books to schoolkids.
D. She was the favorite teacher of the whole class.
26. Which of the following words can’t best describe Ms. Moore
A. Responsible and caring.
B. Positive and independent.
C. Inspiring and strict.
D. Knowledgeable and thoughtful.
27. What is the author’s purpose of writing this passage
A. To express opinions on teaching literature.
B. To discuss the classes and activities in her school.
C. To introduce the classes and activities in her school.
D. To share her memory about her teacher, Ms. Moore.
C
Living and dealing with kids can be tough these days, but living and dealing with parents can be even tougher.
If I have learned anything in my 16 years, it is that communication is very important, both when you disagree and when you get along. With any relationship, you need to let the other person know how you’re feeling. If you are not able to communicate, you drift apart. When you are mad at your parents, or anyone else, not talking to them doesn’t solve anything.
Communication begins with the concerns (关心) of another, it means that you can’t just come home from school, go up to your room and take no notice of anyone. Even if you just say “Hi”, and see how their day was for five minutes, it is better than nothing.
If you looked up the word “communication” in a dictionary, it would say “the exchange of ideas, the conveyance (表达) of information, correspondence (通信), means of communication; a letter or a message”. To keep a good relationship, you must keep communication strong. Let people know how you feel, even if it’s just by writing a note.
When dealing with parents, you always have to make them feel good about how they are doing as a parent. If you are trying to make them see something as you see it, tell them that you’ll listen to what they have to say, and ask them politely to listen to you. Shouting or walking away only makes the situation worse.
Here is an example: one night, Sophie went to a street party with her friends. She knew she had to be home by midnight after the fireworks, but she didn’t feel she could just ask to go home. That would be rude. After all, they had been nice enough to take her along with them. Afraid to say she was late getting home. Her parents were mad at first, but when Sophie explained why she was late, they weren’t as mad and let it munication is the key here. If Sophie’s parents had not been willing to listen, Sophie would have been in a lot of trouble…
28. In the writer’s view, dealing with parents is ____ than with children.
A. more difficult B. much easier C. less interesting D. more interesting
29. The underlined phrase “drift apart” in Paragraph 2 means ____.
A. keep up with others B. move along smoothly
C. distance yourself from others D. come closer to each other
30. The example in Paragraph 6 shows that ____.
A. Sophie is very polite to her parents
B. Sophie’s parents are willing to listen to her
C. Sophie disliked explaining her being late
D. communication is the solution to misunderstanding
31. All the following statements are true except ____.
A. Communication is a two-way matter.
B. It is better to say “Hi” to others than say nothing.
C. If you don’t agree with others, you’d better let them know.
D. When dealing with parents, you only need to listen to them.
D
If children have finally reached the terrible “teenage” years, it is time for parents to know what is on their minds, especially when it involves (涉及) their health and questions that they have about health. As their bodies begin to change into adult forms, their questions will be more adult in nature, and parents need to be prepared for this. It is hard for any parent to realize that their children are growing up, but refusing to admit it will only hurt the relationship between parents and children. Here are some of the topics parents should discuss with their teens.
Teens are curious, and most are curious about sex. What many don’t realize is the dangers related to having sex: Many teens have little knowledge about sexually transmitted (传播) diseases (STDs) and don’t know how they are transmitted. Children have probably not heard much about them and probably don’t understand them all. Alcohol and drugs are dangerous things, especially when used by an inexperienced teenager by anyone. Parents need to talk to their teens about this and tell them the risks, not just that it is bad for them, but what can happen to them.
Everyone feels depressed sometimes. If teens don’t feel comfortable talking to their parents, maybe going to a counselor who gives advice about problems would be good. In this way, parents can also learn what they really need. If it is really nervous depression, teens should be taken to a doctor for advice.
If you would like more information on teen issues, health issues in general, or tips on how to live a healthier life, visit www.health. to start bettering your life.
32. Which of the topics is NOT mentioned in the passage
A. STDs. B. The harm of alcohol and drugs.
C. Being depressed. D. Teens’ quitting school.
33. In which part of a website would you probably find the passage
A. Health. B. Industry. C. Technology. D. Agriculture.
34. What can we learn from the passage
A. Children have never heard about disease related to having sex.
B. Parents don’t want their teens growing up.
C. If parents only tell their teens not to take drugs or alcohol, it’s not enough.
D. If your teens feel depressed, you should buy some medicine for them.
35. What is this passage mainly about
A. How to educate your teens.
B. Some topics parents should discuss with their children.
C. The danger of taking drugs and alcohol.
D. Teens are more mature as they grow up.

第二节(满分20分)
Eddie and his two childhood friends, Luis and Ruben, shared a great love for music. They formed a band called The Stars. One day, they received exciting news: an invitation to perform at a local music festival in a month. They were all thrilled and decided to practise separately every day and together once a week.
However, Eddie started to feel worried. He knew that Ruben, their guitarist, was a quick learner but disliked practising alone. As a result, Ruben often made mistakes during group rehearsals.
One week later, they gathered for practice. Soon Ruben played the wrong notes again. Luis’s face turned red. “You haven’t been practising again! We’re running out of time!”, he said, his voice full of anger. Ruben shouted back. Eddie quickly stepped in to calm them down. He asked Ruben why he didn’t practise at home. “I find it hard to focus alone—My guitar sounds lonely,” Ruben said honestly.
That evening, Eddie felt frustrated. He told his father about the problem and even mentioned replacing Ruben. His father listened quietly and then offered a simple-but-thoughtful suggestion. “Instead of just asking him to practise alone, why not find a way to help him focus ” he said.
Eddie thought about his father’s words. He considered Ruben’s feelings and their friendship. He realized that finding a solution together was better than getting angry. He decided to talk to Ruben and Luis the next day to find a better way for their band to prepare for the show.
