It’s a hot night on the western coast of Sri Lanka. A team of volunteers is patrolling (巡逻) a popular tourist beach on the outskirts of Colombo, searching for turtle (海龟) nesting (筑巢) sites. They work together in a circle, digging in the sand in the late afternoon.
Turtle eggs have long been stolen as a food source by coastal communities, but more recently it is human activity of another kind that has turned out a greater threat. As the city has enlarged, restaurants and other tourist tools have grown along most parts of the country’s western coast, bringing in more people, noisy music, and much waste, all of which damage turtle nesting during the reproducing season.
Aware that life for the turtles was becoming more difficult, Muditha Katuwawala, one of the volunteers, widened the activities of the Pearl Protectors to include continuous patrols. Working with the const guard, the volunteers help to find eggs laid in hazardous areas and remove them to a safe nesting place on the beach until they come out.
However, a serious threat to the turtles comes from the illegal hunters because once they find a nest, all the eggs are usually taken. “Certain restaurants and hotels sell these eggs to the foreigners as a novel food, at a good price,” Katuwawala says. “So turtle eggs now have profitable demand.” He says patrolling alone will not create a lasting influence on turtle preservation and it needs to be united with educating coastal communities.
Another volunteer, Lara Wijesuriya, agrees. “It makes a difference to the community in how they view the problem and the solution,” she says. “And it makes a difference to the volunteers in how they deal with the problem. It bridges the gap.”
In the southern part of the island, the Turtle Conservation Project has gone a step further by employing hunters to protect nests, providing a second income.
“When you finally see the baby turtles going into the ocean, it’s really nice to know that you helped a life to live,” Fernando, another volunteer, says.
24. What is a greater threat to turtle nesting recently
A. Illegal hunting. B. Urban expansion.
C. Industrial activity. D. Destructive overfishing.
25. What does the underlined word “hazardous” in paragraph 3 mean
A. Risky. B. Public. C. Calm. D. Quiet.
26. How can we effectively protect the turtles from the illegal hunters
A. By stopping the trade of turtle eggs.
B. By inviting more people to volunteer.
C. By offering lessons to the communities.
D. By hiring hunters in the preservation.
27. Which is a suitable title for the text
A. Economic Profits of Turtle Eggs
B. Traditional Practices in Turtle Raising
C. Joint Efforts in Turtle Protection
D. Coastal Tourism Challenges in Sri Lanka

For Australian cow farmer Jody Brown, the most frightening support of drought is the silence. Trees stand still, the singing of birds gone.
The continuous dryness means her cows have decreased to around 400, down from 1,100 in 2002, and at times there have been no animals on the land at all. The native grasses, once green, have changed into gray. According to United Nations’ valuation, global produce could fall about 30% because of climate (气候) change, with food supply in great demand in the coming years. The world is facing a new age of rapidly increasing food prices that could push almost 2 billion more people into hunger in a worst-case climate disaster.
Facing the frightening valuation, farmers have begun to experiment. On Brown’s farm, she’s experimenting with regenerative-farming practices better suited to drought. She’s exploring replacements to traditional methods that don’t push the land as hard. Meanwhile many agrichemical (农业化学品) companies are developing new varieties for vegetables, like cabbages that are stronger to extreme climate.
Across the globe, farmers are changing crops (庄稼) and improving watering. Lucas Oliveira in Brazil is pulling out half his coffee trees to plant corn and soybeans instead. He is being forced to change course after coffee crops suffered from drought and then an extreme cold. With drought hitting California, Fritz Durst is working to trap water. He’s boarded up pipes to hold the rain that does fall. Durst will also plant cover crops, which can help enrich the earth and stop the water from washing the earth away. One of the biggest challenges for farmers is that there is no exit for them to funds that would be extremely important to undertake the kind of great change at present.
“If you have to deal with millions of farmers around the world, you have to cooperate with others. That’s a huge task,” said Monika Zurek, senior researcher at University of Oxford’s Environmental Change Institute.
28. Why are the numbers mentioned in paragraph 2
A. To describe the unsafe produce supply.
B. To show the increasing food demand.
C. To present the serious results of climate crisis.
D. To exemplify the continuous drought.
29. What is farmers’ reaction towards the frightening warn
A. Exploring replacing farming practices.
B. Sticking to traditional methods.
C. Developing new varieties for vegetables.
D. Experimenting with agrichemicals.
30. How does Fritz Durst in California deal with the drought
A. He turns to planting coffee trees.
B. He conducts researches of the earth.
C. He covers his crops to beat off drought.
D. He experiments water-trapping methods.
31. What is key to the farming-practice change
A. Dealing with environment change.
B. Offering farmers fund support.
C. Improving the watering systems.
D. Introducing ways to prevent flooding.
D
The Olympic Games, among the world’s most important sports events, not only show the high level of athletic competition but also serve as a symbol of global cultural exchange and unity. However, they face an aging audience and decreasing viewership. The median age (年龄中位数) of American viewers was 39 in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, rising to 53 by the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics. The Tokyo 2021 viewership dropped by a third compared to 2008.
To attract younger audiences and stay influential, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach has recognized the need for the Olympics to upgrade, adding “youth-based” sports. Climbing, skateboarding, and surfing were included in Tokyo, and breakdancing made its first appearance in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
To further widen attraction, e-sports could be the key. With a huge following, e-sports could attract large audiences and add income through media (媒体的) rights and fund support. E-sports could also bring Olympic honor to different types of countries and symbolize the Olympic values of excellence, friendship, and respect (尊重).
However, the IOC’s attitude to e-sports has been watchful. The first Olympic E-sports Week in Singapore in June 2023 was met with confusion among fans, with events like archery and “Just Dance” not turning out as expected, attracting the top viewership of only 22,000.
Recognizing e-sports’ possibility, the IOC has officially included e-sports in the Olympic Movement with the Olympic E-sports Games in Saudi Arabia in 2025. This decision is in line with the rules of the Olympic Agenda 2020+5, which encourages male-female equality, inclusiveness, and differences. By welcoming e-sports, the Olympics can attract younger audiences, enlarge its global reach, and keep its role as a popular sports and relaxation event.
32. What can be learnt from the first paragraph about the Olympic Games
A. The IOC fails to recognize the going-down viewership.
B. The Olympic Games are becoming less popular in the USA.
C. The median age of Olympic viewers has been the same over time.
D. The Olympic Games have always been popular among the youths.
33. How do the Olympics keep connected with society
A. By adding events that attract the youths.
B. By focusing on traditional sports.
C. By hosting the Games in different countries.
D. By reducing the number of events.
34. What is the public’s attitude toward the first Olympic E-sports Week
A. Supportive. B. Appreciative. C. Uninterested. D. Unclear.
35. What is the last paragraph mainly about
A. Profits of multicultural countries in e-sports.
B. Advantages of adding e-sports to the Olympics.
C. Differences between traditional sports and e-sports.
D. Suggestions on establishing safer settings for e-sports.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
During puberty (青春期), your body goes through many changes, and you start forming a body image — how you see, think, and feel about your body’s size, shape, and weight, or specific features like your nose. __36__ For instance, you may believe your nose is too big or too small, even though it looks perfectly normal.
__37__ One major influence is peer (同龄人) pressure. Your friends might make casual jokes about your appearance, or you might compare yourself to them and feel they look better. Such experiences can harm the way you view yourself. Another powerful influence is the media, which often promotes a narrow, ideal body type. For example, if fair skin is portrayed as beautiful, you may feel insecure if you don’t match that ideal.
Developing a negative body image can lead to unhealthy behaviors, such as extreme dieting, overexercising, or even risky plastic surgeries. __38__ When you focus too much on appearance, you may forget to appreciate other great things about yourself, such as your talents and personality.
To build a positive body image, it’s essential to remember that no perfect body exists, as beauty standards are always changing. Models and celebrities may appear flawless in the media, but much of their appearance is due to makeup, angles, lighting, and editing. __39__
Rather than focusing on appearances, value people for their true selves. By surrounding yourself with positive influences and avoiding comments on looks, you can redirect your attention from self-criticism. __40__ Over time, you’ll build inner confidence and develop a healthier, more accepting relationship with your body.
A. Many factors shape your body image.
B. It also lowers your overall life satisfaction.
C. However, your true beauty lies within your heart.
D. External judgement can be a double-edged sword.
E. Without these tricks, they are just as “imperfect” as everyone else.
F. Surprisingly, body image is shaped more by your thoughts than by reality.
G. This shift enables you to recognize and celebrate your talents and strengths.

书面表达范文
Dear Chris,
I’m writing to recommend you take daily individual sports rather than weekend team sports.
Doing daily individual sports like jogging and rope skipping is flexible, allowing you to arrange your exercise time freely after classes. Besides, regular daily workouts effectively ease study pressure and build up your body steadily. Team sports on weekends often conflict with your spare-time courses.
Hope you can stick to your exercise plan and stay healthy.
Yours,
Li Hua
