Money: A Fair Medium of Exchange
From ancient times when a cow could be traded for a horse, to the 21st century, when that same horse might easily be bought with a bank card, humans have always needed a way to buy and sell things at an agreed price.
A system like trading a cow for a horse is called a barter system. It worked well for a long time. However, things became more complicated as the population rose. People needed a standard unit to measure the value of one thing against another. The era of money soon followed.
Chinese people were the first to move from the bartering era to the money era. They began to trade shells for the products they wanted as early as 3,000 years ago. Later, the Chinese began to use copper and bronze to replace shells. The world’s first paper money, jiaozi, appeared in Chengdu in 1023.
In ancient Europe, around the 6th or 5th century BCE, money coins came into use. Europeans used precious metals such as gold and silver for their coins. Around the 17th century, paper money started to become more popular in Europe, because it was much easier to carry and store.
6. What is a barter system

How to Manage Your Pocket Money Wisely
I get 50 yuan of pocket money every week. To manage it wisely, I first make a list of needs and wants. Needs come first, like school supplies and bus fare. Then I save some money for my future goal — buying a new violin. I also compare prices before buying anything. This helps me afford what I really need without wasting money. When I see something on sale, I ask myself if I truly need it. Managing money responsibly is a good habit that will help me in the future.
