My favorite saying means that people are born with similar natures, but different habits will make
them growmore and more different from each other. I read it in TheAnalects of Confucius. When I was
in Grade 7, my desk mate and I started with almost the same grades. I often put off my homework and
played games after class, while he kept a regular study routine and reviewed every day. Slowly, he made
great progress, but I still fell behind. This experience taught me that small daily habits can make a big
difference. (ZhangMin)

Amina Baker has won the Howick Youth Council’s Visual Arts Competition for 2024.
This college student recently took home the top prize. Baker’ s winning artwork, a
self-portrait (自画像 ) drawn from an unplanned photo, proved to both the judges and
community that she’s a rising star in New Zealand.
Baker has an aunt, Laura Smith. “She’s phenomenal,” Baker said. “I’ve never
seen a person who has amazed so many people because of the influence her art has on them.”
Little Baker would spend hours looking at her aunt’s artworks, and those early experiences
lit a spark in her heart that grew into a passion (热情) for art.
The inspiration for her winning artwork came from an unexpected moment during a
school rugby (橄榄球) match. “None of us wanted to watch the game. We just wanted a
free period,” she says, jokingly. While watching with friends, a photo was taken. “As I
looked up, the sun hit my eyes perfectly, taking the photo used for my winning art piece.
Right time, right place, right moment, right thing.”
Deciding to use the photo as a baseline for her drawing was easy. The decision to enter
the competition was harder. “At first, I was unsure. I didn’t see this art piece as anything
much,” Baker says, but the support from her art teacher helped her push through. “She
encouraged me to enter with that specific piece, and thankfully, I did.”
Winning has been both exciting and overwhelming. “Really shocked,” she says of
her reaction. When asked what messages she hoped her art gave, Baker offered advice for

More and more young people in China are using apps like Xianyu to buy and sell
second-hand goods, such as clothes, books, and electronics. They prefer this flexible (灵活
的) trading way to make full use of unused things and meet their daily needs easily.
Second-hand trading has become a big hit. There are several reasons for
its rise. First, it saves money. Students can buy used textbooks at half price, and fashion
lovers can find cheap but fashionable clothes. Second, it is environmentally friendly.
Making new products uses many natural resources (资源) and creates pollution. By reusing
old things, we reduce waste and help protect our planet. Third, it creates a sharing economy
(经济). Things that are no longer needed can find new owners instead of being thrown away.
This smart way of living is called “circular (循环的) economy”.
★ The quality of used things is not always good. Sometimes, a “like new”
phone may have hidden problems, such as a broken screen. Also, dishonest sellers may
cheat buyers by sending fake or broken goods. Without careful checking, buyers can lose
money and feel annoyed. Therefore, experts advise people to check product photos
carefully, read other buyers’ reviews and always use the app’s official payment system.
These effective measures can greatly avoid most common trading risks and protect users’
第 8 页 共 12 页
rights.
To trade safely, follow these tips. Always ask the seller for real pictures taken at
different pare prices from different sellers. It’s never too careful to make a
deal in a quite low price. After receiving the object, check it right away. If something is
wrong, get in touch with customer service and ask for a refund (退款).
In conclusion, second-hand trading is both money-saving and eco-friendly. When done
carefully, it benefits everyone— buyers, sellers, and the Earth. As more young people
choose the popular way, our society will become less wasteful and more responsible.
61. Why is second-hand trading good for the environment
A. It creates a flexible trading way. B. It lowers the price of textbooks.
C. It reduces waste and saves resources. D. It helps fashion lovers find clothes.
62 Which of the following can be put in ★
A. However, second-hand trading also has some risks.
B. Besides, it creates a sharing economy and a more wasteful society.
C. Most goods are usually in perfect condition with no hidden problems.
D. Dishonest sellers never cheat buyers on second-hand trading apps.
63. What can we know from the underlined sentence
A. It’s better to make a deal in off-line markets.
B. The sellers sometimes offer low prices to cheat buyers.
C. In some buyers’eyes, high prices mean good quality.
D. The sellers always tell the truth about their products.
64. What is the writer’s opinion about second-hand trading
A. People should never buy used goods.
B. It doesn’t matter whether people do it or not.
C. Though it is good, people must be careful.
D. It’s not necessary to worry about its safety.
65. What is the writing purpose of the passage
A. To compare different second-hand trading apps.
B. To teach us how to use apps like Xianyu.
C. To warn people about the danger of online shopping.
