【答案】Possible version 1:
Traditional festivals are far more than occasions for food and entertainment. They serve as vital bridges that link us to our cultural heritage. However, some celebrations are now becoming increasingly commercialized, where shopping, photos and gifts are often valued more than the cultural meaning behind them. If this continues, festivals may gradually lose their spiritual depth and become little more than fashionable events.
Therefore, what matters most is not how modern a celebration looks, but whether it carries real cultural value. We can share festival stories online, prepare traditional food with our families, and reduce unnecessary waste. Only when modern forms are combined with cultural meaning can traditions be truly preserved in our hearts.
Possible version 2:
Modern celebrations can inject fresh vitality into traditional festivals. For example, in the past, families gathered to enjoy mooncakes and admire the full moon during the Mid-Autumn Festival, which reflected people’s longing for reunion and harmony. Today we can also send online greetings, watch creative festival videos, or use AI to design festival-themed pictures and explore the cultural stories behind them.
These innovative approaches do not weaken tradition but make it more accessible, appealing and relevant to young people. Since teenagers are more familiar with digital tools, modern technology can help them approach traditions with curiosity rather than distance. Therefore, we should embrace innovation thoughtfully, so that festival culture can be promoted with creativity and passed on with lasting charm.2025-2026学年重庆市巴蜀中学校高一下学期5月期中英语试题

Since the introduction of cherry trees from their native Japan in the early 1900s, blossoming cherry trees signal seasonal change in the United States. An individual cherry tree blooms for about a week, while whole areas of cherry trees bloom and fall in about two. Typically, peak blooms arrive in the nation’s capital sometime between the last week of March and the first week of April.
The National Cherry Blossom (樱花) Festival, Washington, D. C.
March 20-April 12
Eleven species of flowering cherry tree surround the Tidal Basin fronting the Potomac River in National Capital Parks-East. Their scenic blooms draw some 1.5 million people during the celebration, which appreciate spring and international friendship. Events include a kite festival, a parade, fireworks, and musical performances. Across the capital, locals plant new trees, while decorating buildings and buses in pink.
International Cherry Blossom Festival, Macon, Georgia
March 8-19
Georgia’s Macon-Bibb County has the largest quantity of cherry trees in any U.S. County — and counts nearly one hundred times more than the National Mall in Washington, D. C. The area celebrates its blossoms with plant sales, a parade, concerts, outdoor movies, and markets. The festival ends with hot air balloon rides and fireworks over downtown.
Wooster Square Cherry Blossom Festival, New Haven, Connecticut
April 19
The city’s 70-odd cherry blossom trees — most planted in 1978 — surround a park downtown and form a tree tunnel over one block of Hughes Place. A single-day springtime celebration doesn’t always have the best blooms, but it also recognizes the anniversary of the city’s founding in 1638. With or without blossoms, the day includes artist and author presentations, food sellers, and live music.
1. When can people see the most cherry blossoms in Washington D. C.
A. March 8th. B. March 19th. C. April 1st. D. April 19th.
2. What is special about the International Cherry Blossom Festival
A. It has the most cherry trees. B. It provides the longest festival period.

B
It began with a low sound that seemed to shake directly through the soles of my shoes. Standing in the centre of the city, I watched as a large, mud-covered field was changed into a lively place of sound and light. For many, the typical image of a British festival is one of collective endurance — crowding together in rain-soaked tents and dealing with the unpredictable weather. Yet, as the first performer took the stage, those small discomforts disappeared.
Belfast 2024 felt less like a series of scheduled concerts and more like a temporary utopia (乌托邦). In this brief window of time, the normal rules of social connection were paused. I found myself becoming temporary best friends with strangers over a shared appreciation for a local band I had never heard of before. There is a specific kind of electricity that ripples through a crowd of thousands when a familiar song begins to play. It becomes an overwhelming sensory impact: the blinding stage lights, the scent of woodsmoke and street food, and the loud sound of voices singing together.
Critics often regard these events as overpriced and disorganized, and perhaps, on a purely practical level, they have a point. However, to focus simply on the chaos is to miss the broader significance. A festival is a shared activity that offers a rare opportunity to disconnect from the digital world and reconnect with a deeper sense of community.
As the sun began to set, casting an emotional glow over the audience, the music stopped to be mere background noise. It became a unifying force that went beyond language and background. Standing there, tired and covered in dust but singing my heart out alongside a sea of strangers, I realized I wasn’t just watching a performance. I was part of something much larger than myself — a living, breathing testament to the power of human connection through melody.
4. What is the typical image of a British festival according to paragraph 1
A. Crowding together to play music.
B. Bearing minor discomforts together.
C. Putting up with extremely loud sounds.
D. Cheering together for the first performer.
5. Why did Belfast 2024 feel more like a temporary utopia
A. It brought online friends together.
B. It provided various food and drinks.
C. It offered the best music performance.
D. It enabled unique musical experience.
6. What do critics fail to recognize about music festivals
A. The reasons for the high price. B. The logic of the organization.
C. The value of the social connection. D. The nature of digital interaction.
7. What is the best title of the passage
A. The Secret of Belfast 2024.
B. The Healing Power of Music.
C. The Unifying Sound of Belfast.
D. The Organization of Music Festivals.
C
Some birds have developed a curious habit: they put cigarette butts (烟头) in their nests. A new study adds evidence for why urban birds have picked up this preference, at least in one species: the poisons in cigarette butts may keep pests (害虫) at bay in the nests of blue tits, colorful birds that are found across Europe.
Cigarette butts contain about 4,000 chemical compounds, including nicotine, arsenic and heavy metals, which could keep away pests like ticks, fleas and blowflies that harm birds and their babies. So the researchers wanted to know whether blue tits could benefit from cigarette butts.
A team at the University of Lodz in Poland studied blue tits in urban parkland and forest. They tracked the health of 99 birds born in three types of nests: untreated nests, nests with sterilized (无菌的) man-made cotton wool, and those with two used cigarette butts. Thirteen days after birth, the blood test showed that babies in both the sterilized and butt nests were healthier than those in the untreated nests. After the birds could fly, the researchers analyzed the pest populations. They were most numerous in untreated nests and nearly absent from sterilized nests. In the butt nests, the pests were slightly fewer than in the untreated nests. The modest effect found in the new study might be a result of using only two butts.
In contrast, a team in Mexico City found that house finches, another bird species, put an average of 8 to 10 cigarette butts into their nests. A follow-up experiment showed that when researchers added more pests to nests, these birds responded by adding more cigarette butts.
Sarah Bush, an ecologist at the University of Utah (the USA), called the new study’s effort “monumental” despite its small sample. “It’s very hard to get large sample sizes with birds in the field,” she said.
8. What does the underlined word “evidence” refer to in paragraph 1
A. The poisons that cigarette butts contain.
B. The pest-fighting effect of cigarette butts.
C. The possible damage of pests on urban birds.
D. The fact that urban birds prefer cigarette butts.
9. What did the Polish study find about butt nests
A. They had the opposite result. B. They attracted baby and adult birds.
C. They were equal to sterilized nests. D. They were better than untreated nests.
10. What did the follow-up experiment in Mexico City indicate
A. Finches were hard-working. B. Birds escaped pest-filled nests.
C. Eight butts worked ineffectively. D. Finches adjusted accordingly.
11. What is Sarah Bush’s attitude toward the new study
A. Doubtful but polite. B. Critical and demanding.
C. Favorable but realistic. D. Approving and enthusiastic.
D
One of the most fun parts of being a parent is watching children discover the world around them like a scientist. Yet over time parents can find their child might be less interested in exploration.
This loss of interest may partly come from small language cues (提示) they hear, which come from parents, media or in school that treats science as an identity rather than a process. All kids can do science, but over time, they begin to think of being a scientist as something only reserved for certain kinds of kids.
The good news is that the small language cues can also be employed to promote engagement in science. Cuing science as actions that we do, for example, seems to protect children’s interest and motivation to join in science over time. Students whose teachers use more action-focused language stayed longer in a novel science game compared to students whose teachers used more identity-focused language.
However, around adolescence (青春期), teens are actively trying on and eventually forming different identities for themselves. So while identity-focused language about science might be demotivating for young children, identity-focused language may help teens stay interested in science. For example, cuing a future identity (e.g., scientist, doctor) that is based on science motivated middle schoolers to do more homework, and was associated with higher grades. That might be because if teens think of themselves as scientists, then they are willing to do what it takes to be whom they want to become.
Ultimately parents want their children to enjoy learning, exploring and figuring things out for themselves. Those activities also just happen to be critical pieces of the scientific process. Emphasizing these actions when children are younger might help them persist in hard tasks or lessons. But as children get older, gain experience in these activities and start forming ideas of whom they want to become, emphasizing future identities that are science-dependent might also be helpful in maintaining an interest in science.
How these two versions of language cues might work together (or not) is yet to be tested, but perhaps this is some science to be done by parents’ future scientists.
12. What is children’s later view of a scientist
A. An identity limited to specific groups. B. A career challenging to pursue.
C. A chance open to every individual. D. A result of parents’ education.
13. Which of the following would most probably encourage young children to join in science
A. Science is fun. B. Think out of the box.
C. Let’s do science. D. Be a future scientist.
14. What effect does identity-focused language have on teenagers
A. It serves as a drive to learn. B. It quickens learning pace.
C. It boosts confidence in learning. D. It lowers expectations of success.
15. What should parents do in order to promote their kids’ scientific engagement
A. Provide consistent inspiration to them. B. Develop a sense of curiosity in them.
C. Adapt language cues to age and stage. D. Avoid identity-focused language cues.
