阅读下列短文, 从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
Most passwords (密码) are still weak. A study by Specops found that 98.5% of real-world passwords are objectively weak. Only 1.5% of passwords made it into the “strong” zone, defined as being at least 15 characters long and using two or more character types. Only 3. 3% of passwords were longer than 15 characters. This means that most passwords can be cracked (破解) quickly using inexpensive powerful computer tools.
The most common passwords were eight characters long with just two character types, such as “Summer22” or “Office99”. About 8% of all passwords fell into this dangerously basic zone. Close behind were eight-character passwords with only one character type, most often letters alone, and in many cases lowercase letters only. These accounted for another 7.6% of all passwords.
When password length remains unchanged, security depends largely on the variety of characters used. The table below illustrates this effect.
Character type Size of set Total combinations How long to crack
15 characters password of lowercase only (a-z) 26 2615~1.68×1021 Easily cracked with powerful tools in days or weeks
15 characters password of lowercase +uppercase (a-z, A-Z) 52 5215~2.53×1025 Much harder to crack, but still possible over time
15 characters password of alphanumeric (a-z, A-Z, 0-9) 62 6215~7.70×1026 Very strong passwords for most practical use cases
15 characters password of all printable characters (a-z, A-Z, 0-9, symbols) 94 9415~2.25×1029 Nearly impossible to crack
In addition to character variety, password length also plays an important role in security. Using passwords of 16 to 20 characters with at least two different character types-letters, numbers, or symbols-pushes the number of possible combinations into the trillions. Even high-end cracking farms would take years or centuries to break them. In reality, however, weak passwords are still very common. As Darren James, Senior Product Manager at Specops, notes, “Many users are still easy targets for online thieves, who can crack their passwords in seconds.”
1. What percentage of passwords are the most common type
A. 1.5%. B. 3.3%. C. 7.6%. D. 8%.
2. What is the main factor the table compares
A. The size of set. B. Use of names.
C. The cracking method. D. Password length.
3. Why does the author quote Darren James
A. To introduce his company. B. To warn the online thieves.
C. To stress the worrying reality. D. To criticize users for poor choices.

Hundreds of illegal meteorological detection sites (气象探测站点) were discovered in China, according to a post published by the Ministry of State Security on Oct 31. These sites are foreign-affiliated (涉外的) and send weather data to other countries.
If foreign organizations or people wish to build meteorological detection sites in China, they are required to apply for approval through existing legal channels and follow the relevant regulations and laws.
Since the beginning of the year, three central government bodies including the Ministry of State Security have carried out a special operation. They have inspected more than 3,000 foreign-affiliated meteorological sites and found hundreds to be illegal in more than 20 provincial regions. They are in violation of the regulation on foreign-affiliated meteorological detection and data management, as well as the Data Security Law, according to the post.
The equipment is easy to install and hard to detect. It can collect and send data online in real time on its own. Collecting and transmitting such data illegally pose risks to national security. Some illegal sites are placed near sensitive areas, including military units and national defense enterprises, and can collect information of these key places, said the post.
In the context of military operations, weather played a crucial role in ancient times, often determining the outcome of wars. In the modern era, the significance of weather in military operations has only grown. For instance, the China Meteorological Administration (CMA) has pointed out that precise weather information can significantly enhance the success of missile launch tests.
Other illegal sites are located in major grain-producing areas, allowing foreign forces to get data about crop outputs, which are closely linked to China’s food security and national security, according to CMA.
The ministry reminded that meteorological data involve satellite and radar information. Legal institutions and individuals should strengthen data protection. People who spot suspicious weather data collection equipment should report it in time, such as through the Ministry of State Security’s official WeChat account.
4. What can we learn about the illegal meteorological detection sites from the text
A. They may be related to overseas organizations.
B. They buy the weather data collected.
C. They were found in all of China’s provincial regions.
D. They can be easily located and removed.
5. What can be inferred from Paragraph 3
A. Most foreign-affiliated sites are against related laws.
B. The special operation targeted all weather stations.
C. Illegal sites failed to follow legal rules and laws.
D. Individual inspectors led the nationwide inspection.
6. Why is collecting meteorological data illegally considered a risk
A. It leads to serious environmental problems. B. It severely affects international relations.
C. It reveals information related to national security. D. It exposes details about military operations.
7. What is the last paragraph mainly about
A. The content included in weather data. B. The channel to report illegal activities.
C. Ways to investigate and punish illegal sites. D. Suggestions given to protect weather data.

Despite decades of medical advances, detecting health-related molecule (分子) still relies on bodily liquids like blood, requiring blood draws from most patients, especially people with diabetes who need frequent finger pricks. However, researchers from the University of Chicago have developed a portable device named ABLE, which collects and detects molecules in the air. This 4×8-inch device is a potential game-changer for medicine and public health.
Detecting molecules in the air has long fallen behind liquid detection, mainly because target particles (微粒) are extremely dilute — there may be only one in a trillion. To solve this problem, the team turned air into liquid. The device draws in air, adds water vapor with a humidifier, and cools it to turn air into small drops. These drops trap particles and slide into a small container, making detection easy with common tools used for liquid analysis.
Early tests proved its effectiveness. It caught easily evaporated (挥发的) coffee vapor, detected glucose in breath, identified E. coli in the air, and found signs of inflammation (炎症) in mice with unhealthy gut bacteria. Obviously, it solved the problem of capturing molecules that evaporate easily-a major worry during the device’s development.
The device was first inspired by the need for non-invasive tests for premature babies in ICUs. These fragile babies are likely to have health problems, and repeated blood tests may put them in danger. Doctors hope the device can track health signs without taking blood, protecting these high-risk patients. It also shows promise for diagnosing inflammatory bowel disease, though the related breath signs first need to be recorded. The team plans to improve and make it smaller to create a wearable device for daily use.
Besides medical uses, this achievement may open the door to new physics research on air impurities and state changes of matter. As a new tool for detecting air chemistry, ABLE fills the space between air and liquid molecule analysis, creating possibilities for various new developments in healthcare and science.
8. Why did the researchers develop ABLE
A. To change medicine and public health.
B. To take the place of blood tests in hospitals.
C. To reduce finger pricks for patients with diabetes.
D. To identify health-related molecules without liquid samples.
9. What can we infer about ABLE
A. It is small and wearable for daily use. B. It has overcome a key technical challenge.
C. It has proved useful for newly born babies. D. It diagnoses inflammatory bowel disease easily.
10. Who will least likely benefit from ABLE
A. A chemist. B. A psychologist. C. A physician. D. A physicist.
11. What can be a suitable title for the text
A. A Tool for Bodily Liquid Analysis. B. A Tool for Airborne Particle Capture.
C. A Device for Air Molecule Detection. D. A Device for Non-Invasive Health Checks.
D
Rewilding is a simple concept: areas of wilderness are identified for restoration, native animals and plants are reintroduced, and natural processes take over. The term was coined in the 1990s. Much like nature, language undergoes continuous transformation. To some, rewilding now incorporates the idea of building “corridors” so that species can cross from one area of wilderness to another, as they would have done in pre-human times. To others, it is about letting “natural chaos” take over, meaning any human interference is prohibited.
Why might the average person be drawn to the idea of rewilding Many hold that nostalgia is behind it. The fact is that most of us can’t say, “Where did all those Red Admiral butterflies go, that were once so common in my back garden ” We cannot recall things that are beyond living memory, let alone a time when wild pigs and deer ran through forests. Indeed, we need not be remotely sentimental (多愁善感) to see why biodiversity is desirable.
There are numerous benefits to rewilding, such as restoring natural biodiversity and improving the ecological resilience of damaged landscapes. Actually, at the most pragmatic level, without healthy ecosystems, our crops will fail and obviously we will not survive. A workable food chain must start with pollinators, such as bees and hoverflies. Intensive farming, however, has largely removed the wildflowers they feed on and turned much of our landscape into lifeless soil. Only by reintroducing missing insects, plants and animals can we reverse this trend.
The idea of rewilding has certainly caught the public eye, and journalists have played their part in this. Some have warned about the potential terrible consequences. Others have showered praise on the plan of releasing beavers back into streams. Devoting attention to efforts like these is no bad thing, yet rewilding is something different altogether: an entire ecosystem becoming self-regulatory and self-sustaining. Furthermore, if the public are to be persuaded of the benefits of rewilding, they must be confident that journalists are providing the full picture. In Spain’s Guadarrama hills, for example, wolves’ return brings conservation joy but raises local concerns over lost sheep and cattle. Honest discussion about this kind of issue is required.
Rewilding projects, it has to be said, do not always go as planned. The idea that we should allow nature to reclaim parts of our landscape is far more divisive than say, any proposal for reducing plastic waste or tackling the illegal wildlife trade. Few people would be blind to the advantages of limiting plastic consumption or argue against protecting elephants. Yet not so long ago, no-one gave a second thought to these things. It took the incredible efforts of a few passionate, principled individuals to educate the majority of us through long campaigning and evidence-based argument. Hopefully, fifty years from now, with ecosystems flourishing again, people will question why our generation ever saw rewilding as debated.
12. Why does the author mention Red Admiral butterflies
A. To contradict a claim. B. To justify a comparison.
C. To challenge a convention. D. To illustrate an assumption.
13. What does the word “pragmatic” underlined in Paragraph 3 most probably mean
A. Complex. B. Precise. C. Advanced. D. Practical.
14. As for rewilding, which would the author agree with
A. The media play a major role in its progress.
B. Objective reporting facilitates its promotion.
C. Public concern about it shapes media coverage.
D. Disagreement among journalists outweighs agreement.
15. Which would be the best title for the passage
A. Rewilding: One Step at a Time B. Rewilding: Back to the Unknown
C. Rewilding: A Race against Limits D. Rewilding: The Recall of the Wild

第二节 (满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I’m Jacky, head of Greenhill Village. Our village, which used to be a charming place, sits between towering mountains. Clear rivers ran through green fields, and the back mountain, with its thick forests and colorful flowers, made our village look so peaceful and nice. But now, the back mountain has become a big mess full of trash(垃圾).
At first, there were just a few plastic bags flying around. But as time went by, old furniture, abandoned metal pieces, and much household waste were thrown there. The bad smell of rotting (腐烂的) garbage filled the air, scaring away the birds and small animals. What’s worse, dirty water from the trash got into the soil and polluted the well water, which was what villagers had been drinking for many years.
I tried many times to get everyone to clean up the mountain, but no one responded. Some villagers said, “I’m engaged in the harvest.” Even when I showed them how smelly the well water was and how the crops near the mountain were dying, they still didn’t care.
One sunny afternoon, I met Kay, a young man who came back from the city after studying there for years. When we walked past the messy back mountain, he looked really astonished and sad. “This is our home,” he said, his voice shaking. “I’ll spare no effort to regenerate it again.” His strong feeling made me feel hopeful again, so we organized a village meeting.
The meeting room felt very quiet and serious. I stood in front of everyone and looked at their uninterested faces. “Our mountain is in big trouble,” I said. “The trash is not only making our village ugly, but it’s also threatening our health and hurting our farms.” Dian, the oldest man in the village, laughed, “Cleaning up that mountain is too hard. Who’s going to do such a big job ” His words made everyone feel unsure, and I thought we would fail again.

【答案】Possible Version 1
Dear Chris,
Glad to hear you’re participating in the World Earth Day poster contest! Between the two versions, I highly recommend the first one, “There is no Planet B.”
I prefer this design for two main reasons. Visually, the poster features a crying and sweating Earth, with factory chimneys emitting toxic smoke on its top. It vividly highlights the severe environmental crises we are facing, such as global warming and air pollution. More importantly, the slogan itself is brilliant. By cleverly playing on the phrase “Plan B”, it sends a powerful warning to the public: our planet is irreplaceable, and we have no backup home to escape to. Therefore, we must stop the destruction before it’s too late.
I believe this thought-provoking poster will surely leave a lasting impression on the judges. Best of luck!
Yours,
Li Hua
Possible Version 2
Dear Chris,
Glad to hear you’re participating in the World Earth Day poster contest! Both versions are fantastic, but I favor the second one, “OUR ACTIONS, OUR FUTURE.”
What makes this poster stand out is the perfect combination of its image and slogan. In terms of the image, it presents a hopeful scene where a pair of hands gently holds the Earth. On top of the globe, leafy trees and a bright sun vividly symbolize a green, sustainable future. Moreover, the slogan perfectly matches the drawing. Written entirely in bold capitals, the words create a strong impact, conveying a highly positive message that the destiny of our planet literally lies in our own hands.
I’m sure this inspiring design will shine in the contest and motivate more people to take concrete eco-friendly actions. Good luck!
Yours,
Li Hua
【答案】One possible version:
At that moment, Kay stepped forward, saying, “I’ll start.” His eyes shined with determination. “If no one else joins, I’ll clean the mountain alone, one bag at a time.” His words hung in the air, and for a long moment, there was only silence. Then, a boy stood up shyly. “I can help pick up small things!” he said. His passion seemed to break the ice. One by one, more villagers stood up, grabbing gloves and bags. Even Dian grumbled, “Fine, I guess an old man can still contribute.” We were quickly divided into groups: some carried large items, others sorted the trash, and the children collected scattered litter. With a newfound energy, we headed towards the back mountain.
Over the few days, we carried out a joint cleanup. As we worked together, I looked around at the villagers, and a sense of pride welled up inside me. The once-uninterested faces were now red with effort. Grandmas and grandpas sat under trees, sorting recyclable materials. Young men and women carried heavy bags down the slopes. The children played cheerful songs while working. After a week of hard work, the mountain was almost clean. On the last day, we planted new trees and flowers to replace the damaged ones. The back mountain, once a symbol of mess, now becomes a symbol of our village’s unity and love for our home.
