Although I’m not a music major, I brought my beloved violin to the United States during this study abroad semester. This violin could not be kept apart from my life.
When I was six years old, I was one of the typical kids who started to learn musical instruments. Parents would hear their young kids shouting, “Mom! I want to learn the piano! Dad! I want to learn the violin!” Well, the difference is, for me, that it was not my free will. Yes, my mom just forced me to play the violin. In the violin school, you could hear the kids crying in the practice room after being scolded (责骂) by their moms. I was one of them. At the time, I hated the violin. However, I started to love the violin when my mom stopped focusing on my relationship with the violin in high school, because her attention naturally changed to my school performance. Maybe she didn’t have enough energy to force me to practice anymore.
When I finally got into college, the first thing I did was to register for the campus orchestra. I didn’t want to stop playing the violin. The orchestra helped me get involved in such a harmonious, friendly group for the first time while I was playing an instrument. It was my first time meeting friends who have similar hobbies, passion and dreams. I can’t forget my first classical concert. I was feeling true love toward the orchestra and the violin. I was extremely excited and I couldn’t wait for the next concert. The time just passed as a blink. Two hours felt like 10 minutes.
For everyone, it’s never too late to learn to play an instrument. It is really one of the best ways to express one’s emotions and communicate it to other people, and I have grown my emotions while being a part of an orchestra.
28. What can we know about the author’s mother when he was six
A. She loved playing the violin. B. She suffered from a serious illness.
C. She cared about the author's grades. D. She forced the author to learn the violin.
29. When did the author begin to love the violin
A. In college. B. In high school.
C. After graduating from college. D. After going to the United States.
30. What did the author do first when he entered college
A. He changed his major to music. B. He attended a famous violin concert.
C. He signed up for the campus orchestra. D. He met friends with similar hobbies.
31. What does the author think of his first classical concert
A. Impressive. B. Beneficial. C. Ordinary. D. Inspiring.

A woman who lost one leg to cancer is seeking to break a world record by completing 102 marathon-length runs in 102 days.
Jacky Hunt-Broersma, who lost the bottom half of her leg to a rare form of cancer in 2001, set her goal in mid-January. And every day since then, she has been running the distance of a marathon. “Part of my body was gone. For me the biggest struggle was accepting my disability,” she told the reporter.
Until five years ago, she was not very active. But then she looked into running and decided to give it a try. The sport ended up being quite costly. Currently, the carbon fiber blade she uses, which is designed specifically for running, costs about $10,000.
“Running really changed my life,” she said. “It helped me accept myself as a person with disability. It gave me a sense of freedom. I fell in love with the process of pushing my body further just to see what I could do.”
However, she has faced both physical and mental difficulties during her record-breaking attempt. On one recent day, Hunt-Broersma felt near breakdown at 24 kilometers and began to cry. In that moment, she felt like her planned goal might not happen at all. By dividing it into little goals, she finally picked herself up and carried on.
Hunt-Broersma’s main support team is her husband and their two young children. She is posting her progress online and has also got a large social media following.
As she nears the end of her goal, Hunt-Broersma is hoping to inspire a single thought in others: You're stronger than you think and you're capable of so much more.

Dear Mike,
I am glad to hear from you.
I’m sorry to know you’ve become addicted to the Internet. As we all know, Internet addiction does great harm to your life. It will make your grades drop down, damage your physical health and spoil your family relationship because of less communication.
Here are my suggestions. First, develop some outdoor hobbies like hiking to take up spare time. Besides, spend more time chatting with your parents to get away from computers.
I hope you can get rid of the bad habit soon.
Yours,
Li Hua
