Lying in southwest Asia, the Dead Sea is about 80 kilometres long, about 18 kilometres wide and about 400 metres deep. It also has some other names, such as the Salt Sea, the East Sea, or the Sea of the Plain.
Even though it’s called the Dead Sea, it isn’t a sea at all! It’s a lake. Different from other lakes you might have seen, the Dead Sea is quite a salty lake. In fact, the Dead Sea is one of the saltiest bodies of water in the world. The Dead Sea is so salty that nothing can live in it. That’s why it’s called the Dead Sea. And the Dead Sea stays quite salty because it gets only a little rain, and so little fresh water gets into the Dead Sea each year.
Don’t let the name of the Dead Sea make you feel scared. The Dead Sea is a wonderful place to visit, and many people go to the Dead Sea each year on holiday. One interesting thing is that anyone can float in the Dead Sea. So if you walk on the beach of the Dead Sea on a warm day, perhaps you can see many people floating in its waters. You might even see many of them reading books or magazines!

Nowadays, people usually shake hands when they meet each other. Do the Chinese always greet like this In fact, handshaking was introduced to our country around 100 years ago.
There were several kinds of greeting etiquette in ancient China. Among them the fist and palm salute (拱手礼) was quite a common one, with a history of about 3,000 years. It was first used by people in the western Zhou Dynasty. In ancient times, if people met a stranger, their hands were always ready to hold something used for fighting. Holding out both hands could make people feel relaxed.
When people meet, men usually use their left hand to hold the right one, it’s believed that people considered (认为) the left as the important side for men in Chinese history. While for women, the important side is the right. So when they give the fist and palm salute, they put their right hand on the top. When someone presents the fist and palm salute to you, you are supposed to do it back as well.
In many wuxia or kung fu TV series and movies, people greet each other with the hold-fist salute or the palm salute. The gesture (手势) is that the right hand is made a fist, while the left hand is to cover the right fist. It’s similar to the fist and palm salute, but they are different. 书面表达范文
A Lesson from Bad Weather
Last summer, I met a heavy rainstorm suddenly when I was out for a walk. The wind blew strongly and the rain poured down quickly. I had no umbrella and wanted to run home at first. But my parent told me not to walk under tall trees or power lines. I waited safely inside a nearby shop until the rain stopped.
From this experience, I learn lots of safety rules. When bad weather comes, stay indoors as much as possible. Keep away from trees and high buildings. Bad weather is terrible, but knowing safety knowledge can keep us safe.
