Last summer, my brother, Juan, and I were staying at our grandfather’s house in Mexico. When he was young, our grandfather was an explorer.
One day, we were looking at his books and we found an old map. It was hidden (被藏) between the pages of a book called Animals of Mexico. On the map there were directions to a secret place, deep in the forest.
Juan wanted to follow the map. “Perhaps we’ll find some treasure!”he said excitedly.
We set off early the next morning. The marks (标记) on the map took us deeper and deeper into the forest. The tall trees blocked the sunlight, so it was very dark. Suddenly, we heard a deep loud noise. From the dark corner came out a huge, wild, spotted cat.
“It’s a jaguar(美洲豹),” I breathed as quietly as I could.
Juan froze with fear. My heart was beating really fast, but I calmly looked the jaguar straight in the eyes and tried not to show how scared I was.
“Back away, slowly,”I said to Juan in a low voice.
We walked backwards, very slowly. The jaguar took one last look at us, then turned and disappeared back into the darkness.
Juan’s hands were still shaking (颤抖)as he looked again at the map.
“We’re here!”he said. “This is Grandpa’s secret place.”
As we turned around, we saw a small, wooden house.
We nervously opened the door and went inside. On the walls, there were photos of beautiful jaguars, like the one we had seen.
Still shaking like a leaf after our adventure, we began to realize that we had, in fact, found a treasure—a place where jaguars live in the wild.
( )41. What did the brothers decide to do after they got the map
A. To check the marks.
B. To look for treasure.
C. To travel around Mexico.
D. To visit the wooden house.

A. They tried to stay calm.
B. They shouted excitedly.

A. The map itself.
B. The wild home of jaguars.
C. The gold in the wooden house.
D. Their grandfather’s old photos.
( )44. Why did the grandfather most likely hide the map
A. To test his grandchildren’s bravery.
B. To protect the jaguars’ secret home.
C. To remember his exploring experiences.
D. To keep his photos in the wooden house safe.
( )45. Which of the following can best describe the brothers’ trip

Is the summer vacation long enough to turn life for the better Every person has their own talents and interests. Find something you care about, and you will see the difference.
Show your love to the elderly. Every city has some old people’s homes. Without children around them, the old people there might feel lonely once in a while. Maybe they need your help. In fact, you can do a lot to make them feel warm. For example, you can talk with them or play games with them. Listening to them carefully is also a good idea. Some old people can’t see clearly and they would like you to read to them.
Organize a clean-up programme. People often throw litter in a place where there is already litter. This can leave a neighbourhood in a mess. The environment will become better if someone volunteers to help. You could pick up rubbish with your friends in your neighbourhood once a week. You could also encourage your neighbours to recycle more waste materials. Surely, a clean and tidy neighbourhood will be worth the work.
Set up a reading project with your friends. You can share your favourite books. Besides, you may read aloud to each other and talk about what you read. Either a book or an article can spark a lively discussion and your further thinking. The process often challenges more people to take action. The project is also a good way to welcome newcomers. At the same time, you may find new friends with similar hobbies.
A two-month summer vacation isn’t that long, but it’s enough to make a difference.
( )46. What can we learn from Paragraph 2
A. Reading to the old is the best way to show love.
B. The old in old people’s homes have no children.
C. The old in old people’s homes don’t like playing games.
D. Even small things can make the old in old people’s homes feel loved.
( )47. How often could you pick up rubbish according to the passage
A. Once a week.
B. Every few weeks.
C. Once a month.
D. Every few months.
( )48. What does the underlined word “spark” mean in Paragraph 4
A. Start. B. Receive. C. Match. D. Overlook.
( )49. What is the structure of the passage (①=Paragraph 1, ...)
( )50. What is the passage mainly about
A. The greatest time to have fun.
B. The people with different interests.
C. The reasons for a different summer vacation.
D. The ways of making a summer vacation different.

第二节 回答问题(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
A young vlogger (视频博主) called Xiaozhong is popular. He makes long travel videos of places forgotten by history. Most of them run over 20 minutes, yet millions of people love them.
In March 2025, Xiaozhong shared a video about a forgotten place—Pingyuan Province. The place only lasted from 1949 to 1950. Today, few people remember it—not even those living in Xinxiang, the capital of Pingyuan.
With a map from the time, Xiaozhong walked through the city, meeting locals and asking questions. Slowly, the lost history came back to life. One big discovery was the People’s Victory Canal(灌溉渠). It was important for managing the Yellow River during the early years of the People’s Republic of China. The Yellow River used to flood(发洪水) and hurt many people. But after the canal was finished in 1952, it helped stop the floods.
While filming, Xiaozhong met an old man. Later, the man’s grandson saw the video and left a warm message. Things like this are very special to Xiaozhong. “These small meet-ups, online and in person, are very meaningful,”he said.
Xiaozhong’s interest in unknown places comes from his own background (背景). He is Hakka (客家人) and grew up in Puning, Guangdong, where Hakka and Chaoshan cultures mix. As a child, he felt he didn’t belong to (属于) either culture and felt he was forgotten by both. But now, through travel, he learns about others—and himself.
“Every journey teaches me something,”Xiaozhong said. “The more I see of the world, the more I understand who I am. The world is wide, and full of voices waiting to be heard.”
